This hotel is perfect in many ways. Location is unbeatable. Directly on the La Jolla Cove, wake up to seal and sea lion chatter every morning. Crashing waves, shops, restaurants, everything is walkable. The hotel rooms have been recently renovated and are lovely. I would highly recommend the oceanfront balcony rooms. The Roof Top area is breathtaking for any meeting/reception or gathering. Practically 180 degree views of the Pacific! My experience with Michael at the front desk was so amazing! He was friendly and so sweet upon check-in. Always had a smile and a great sense of humor. Remembered my name throughout my entire stay and made me feel right at home. If I had a place for him, I'd hire him for my own business. He's an outstanding representative for the hotel. Cannot wait to go back! 5 Stars all the way!

Staff was great and I feel bad they have to work at this place . Had to move rooms since the first one they booked us in the renovated Pines looked at a wall and felt like a prison. Looked at the Cove rooms which were awful. Oh wow those crazy stairs! Settled on another renovated Pines room at the far corner of the building, had a bit of ocean view from the side but also looked right out to the burned out house next door. Walls so thin we could hear the guests in the next room talking and their screaming toddler. The room was next to the stairway so when someone was in that area it felt they were in the room. Was originally booked for 3 nights here but 2 hours after check in decided to cancel the next two nights. Couldn’t wait to get the hell out of this place and left early the following morning . Major construction at one of the elevator shafts that shook the building. Massive construction going on at the property only the one building “The Pines” is renovated. The rest of the property is an eyesore. I knew they were renovating the property when I booked but didn’t realize how extensive it was. The roof top area did not have any of the sofas or furniture that was shown on the website. Only a few tables and chairs. This place needs to close until construction is completed. It feels like a pet project of a couple bachelor investors that have no vision or direction with what to do. And forget staying here if you are not active, healthy or able to walk. Awkward stairs all over and very dangerous. Only the one elevator working when we stayed and it took forever to catch with housekeeping using it, guests, the construction workers. We hauled our heavy luggage up and down 4 flights of stairs. We travel a lot and this is the first place we ever cut our stay short.

We booked a room in the “Pines” section of the hotel for Monday August 9, 2021…. Check in was friendly and the staff were kind enough to allow us to get into our room a bit early. Access to the room was confusing because of the construction in the building, but we made our way to room 202. The lovely room offers a view over LaJolla cove and a busy park area. The large balcony was well appointed with stylish and inviting patio furniture, we looked forward to enjoying the oceanfront terrace, but the moment we opened the large sliding patio door, all we could hear was construction noise from the hotel renovations, and from the work site in the park in front of the hotel. The view from the second floor room was largely taken up by the construction site across the road, and the jackhammering which was coming from inside the hotel were definitely not contributing to a pleasant oceanfront experience. We contacted the front desk to ask if we could have a different room, and were informed that none were available. The front desk staff were very accommodating, and without hesitation understood that we could not justify paying a peak-season, ocean-view rate for the room under these circumstances. They agreed to provide us a full refund and we were on our way. Had we been notified at the time of booking that the area, including the hotel itself was undergoing significant renovation we would not have made the reservation nor driven all the way to LaJolla for the day; and considering we made the booking directly with the hotel, speaking with one of their own staff, it is disappointing that there was no mention of the fact that the whole area is basically a construction site. We look forward to visiting this property once their renovations are done.

While it is great to hear your comments about the friendly staff & lovely room, we regret to know you ultimately checked out, due to the construction onsite & across the street. The pictures on the website aren't representative of the rooms. The hotel is dirty and tired. If you decide to stay here, you'll be paying premium room rates for a hotel that feels like indoor camping. I really wish we could've stayed somewhere else.
