The "Beautiful Gardens" were not beautiful and were not well maintained and full of weeds.
For the price of the room $102.00 per night this was one of the worst places I have stayed. I would not recommend this motel until renovations had been made.
It's an older property, a classic American motel dating from the 1950s or perhaps even the late 40s. It is operated by a very kind and gracious couple who have owned it for the last 40 years. They are now getting on in age, although their hospitality is still first-rate.
If you like the unique charm of older motels, and don't care for all the signs, display cards, and "sameness" of the big chains, you will enjoy staying here. The property is very tidy and well-kept, and the sheets are crisp and clean. Rooms have all the expected amenities - fridge, microwave, coffee machine, desk, etc. The Wi-Fi system is very fast and totally reliable. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available. There is a nice selection of quality magazines (National Geographic, Fortune, etc.) available in the office to take back to your room and read at your leisure.
Be aware, though, that some of the furniture is older and the decor is older (things that matter, like mattresses, are new). Also be aware that the owners are older too, thus perhaps a bit old-fashioned in their business practices. For example, I was not sure how long I would stay (I eventually stayed 3 days), and rather than just doing a pre-authorization of my credit card and settling up on the last day, I was politely asked to pay each day as the days passed. That was no problem for me.
If you are a relaxed kind of person, if you appreciate gracious hospitality, and if your disposition is such that you tend to see the good in things before you find things to criticize, then I think you will enjoy staying here. But, if you are stressed, if you want tonight's hotel room to look exactly like last night's hotel room somewhere else, perhaps better to go stay in a larger chain hotel.
As for me, I'll happily return, and I'll also recommend this motel to my friends. It is clean, calm, and tranquil.
The rates (about $60 a night) are a bit higher than one would expect for this type of motel, but it appears that is due to a general shortage of hotel/motel rooms in the Hollister area. Most other properties in this town are around $90 a night.
The Motel is way out on the edge of town and there was only one other guest (aka Scary Man) who stood outside leaning on his car for 4 hours watching our every move as we came and went.
Many basic amenties were missing - no clock radio, no hair dryer, not even shampoo. The carpets were grimy and in need of serious updating and the room smelled musty, though was otherwise clean.
All of this could have been excused (or at least understood) if the price of $82 had been half what we were charged. Hotels in Hollister seem generally overpriced - a better option is to stay in Gilroy where there is more variety.
Overall it was below average. Not a bad place but definitely didn't meet average expectations.
