On arrival the man at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming, and got us checked in quickly. From the outside, the place looks very well kept and maintained, and the rooms were the same. Our room was very clean and well maintained and had everything in it we could want. There is also a laundry room with coin operated machines that came in very handy.
It did look like some of the workers from local farms stay there, and when we arrived some of them were sat outside chatting and having a beer after a hard days work. They kept to themselves though and were quiet, and it certainly didn't bother us having them there.
Hollister itself was a surprise. It's a nice little town in the middle of a farming area, and has everything you could need. All in all, we enjoyed staying there.

We were at a concert that night and could not check in till after the show. The room was already reserved. I got a call about 8:00 pm asking what time we would be checking in, so if we weren't coming in they would sell our room. But actually they were calling so they could rent our room out for an hour or so. When we got to the room it looked like it never got finished up w/ the cleaning. There were a couple of hairs on the bed and pillows. The sheets didn't look like they were washed, there was a stain that looked fairly fresh. I took a picture of the chair it was so stained i couldn't even sit on it. Unfortunately it was late and the woman we woke up to get our key didn't look capable of much help. This place has people coming and going all night. ( drugs ) Whatever you do not come to this gross by the hour motel. Obviously the owners do not care about clean rooms or the grounds.
Lucky to get out without any type of things crawling on me.

And, amazingly, the price was still incredibly low. Bravo!

On the other hand, there was not anything that was unacceptably dirty. Big difference between unclean and just worn. I really liked the location and peaceful atmosphere. There's a McD directly across the street and a good diner too. The huge parking space makes it feel more relaxed somehow. There's definitely a rural feel to what would otherwise be just another run-down roadside motel. There's no pool; the owners have planted vegetable gardens everywhere there's bare soil it seems. The whole place has an improvised, funky feel to it. They had both DSL and wireless and they both worked well. Micro. + fridge worked well too.
These folks seem kind and honest enough, I suppose. They just aren't serious about making this a viable motel. They need to replace things like the antique a/c unit and damaged furniture if they want to ever want to have a respectable establishment.
I find it hilarious they categorize this as an "inn". It's a run-down highway MOTEL. Period. I think I would be perfectly fine with it if I had paid $35 to $55 for the night. But $99 is just way too much. They get away with it because there aren't many hotels in Hollister. If you want something classier or more luxurious, you'll need to look at Gilroy, where you have a lot more options.
This place would be OK for a low-budget business traveler who isn't planning on entertaining clients or perhaps for a family on a low-budget vacation.
