I first met Michelle and her staff at the Pleasanton Fly Show about 3 years ago. I signed up for a trip and I have never looked back. I plan on returning until I cannot. The fishing experience is more then I expected - with trips to Baum Lake, Fall River and the “Springs”. Trout so beautiful in color, strong and healthy and ready to make you reel them in, if you can. With the guidance of Brooks I was able to bring those beauties to the net. A wonderful experience. Thank you Clearwater.

From the moment I made the reservations and spoke with Michelle the owner, I knew we were in for a real treat for a special weekend getaway. On arrival we were met by warm and friendly staff members offering cool refreshments. That evening we enjoyed a wonderful social hour which allowed for meeting the other guests and sharing fishing stories. The dinners both nights were over the top. It would make foodies not want to leave, especially the treats Noelle makes. Noelle is the chef and her passion for creative, delicious meals shows, and what a wonderful job she does. The breakfasts are delicious and fun to boot. The rooms are nicely appointed and very comfortable.
Our fishing guide, Tom April was a pleasure to spend the day with. We never tired of catching fish!! There were two other guides Mike and John, who were also great to chat with. Overall this is an outstanding lodge operated by an owner who truly cares about putting her guests needs first. We will be making this an annual trip no doubt. Craig & Jennie

Just returned from a 3 night stay and cannot say enough about this spot. Michelle the new owner and her daughter Rachel have made this a home away from home. They both are genuinely interested in making this an experience to remember. The quality of the fishing guides is suberb, the 3 meals a day are outstanding, and just a lovely spot. We brought our new dog, a golden rescue, along for the journey and he was treated just like a guest - lots of attention! This is THE spot for fishing in California! And we will be back!

This main lodge is fantastic. Beautiful Craftsman Interior, 7 private rooms with baths while the annex and cabins give the lodge enough space for a corporate retreat! Family Dinning on Gourmet Meals includes wine or other refreshment of your choice.

Awesome Fishing and Guides, Minutes from California's best native trout streams, creeks, lakes and rivers. The Fall and Pit Rivers, Hat and Burney Creek are less than 15 minutes away. All the equipment you need is supplied and the guides do a great job of coaching and teaching you all of the techniques necessary to be successful on the water (if you've never fly fished before). Most of the fishing is from their specially built drift boats. The guides do all the work, you do all the catching.

The owner of the Lodge is super accommodating and you never want for anything e.g.; the fridge in the recreation room is filled with beverages that you can enjoy at any time and the cookie jars are filled with fresh baked cookies for the taking. Play a game of pool or horse shoes or socialize with the other guests on the huge front porch sitting on one of the many Adirondack Chairs. You meet some of the most interesting people here! Maybe that's why I've been back many times over the past several years.

I've been to Clearwater twice, once two years ago and just last month. It was an excellent experience the first time and now with new ownership it was an outstanding experience. Michelle the new owner clearly has a talent for making each guest feel welcome and important. She has continued the outstanding dining but made significant improvements with the lodge. There is all the trappings of a four star resort at prices that are absolutely the best to be found. The guide I had Mike Peters was just an unbelievable resource for a novice fly fisherman. I learned more in two days then I believe you can learn from taking a course with other students. I believe that if you have ever fantasied about learning to fly fish (think Brad Pitt's movie) a River Runs Through it, then you must, absolutely must make the Clearwater Lodge your destination. None finer, two weeks after returning I want to go back!

We came for the fly-fishing for the trout...but we may come back for the food and hospitality! What a place! What a stay! Incredible fly-fishing within minutes, and even more world-class wild trout fisheries 30 minutes to an hour away (Fan River, Hat Creek, McCloud, Upper Sac...). But when you are done fishing, you have wine and beer and sodas and cookies and nibbles before feasting on incredible cooking that would be any foodies' dream. Chef Noelle makes everything, and everything is different each night! The sheer inventiveness kept us coming back for more and enjoying everything we ate.

The owner, Michelle, makes sure you are delighted with everything going on. And her new labrador puppy makes sure you don't want to leave the main reception area. WiFi is good, rooms are clean, amenities in the way of soaps and lotions are excellent. They may not be Bulgar, but the blood-orange shampoo and lotions are almost sweet enough to taste themselves.

A wonderland of a place in a place I'd never been before. Great guides for fly-fishing, an excellent fly-shop on premises to buy or rent or borrow what you didn't bring. We'll definitely be back and I hope it is sooner rather than later!

I had a most magical two night visit (way toooo short) at Clearwater Lodge in early July. The lodge has been lovingly restored to it's 1920's style with comfortable bedrooms and baths, a welcoming communal room for drinks and pool matches, and chairs along a relaxing porch. The owner Michelle is most gracious and attentive.

The hex hatch was on -- and this was a surreal experience for this 25+ year fly fisherman. I can't wait to come back in the Fall to experience this part of Northern California is a different season.

I just returned from Clearwater Lodge and had an amazing time! I took the Mastering the Art of Fly Fishing Class and was not disappointed! My instructor and guide, John Fochetti, was an exceptional teacher both in the classroom and on the water. He was very patient with me, and gave me the self-confidence and improved skill set to try my skills on my home waters. The diversity of the waters, from small streams and the amazing riffle at Hat Creek, to the fast flowing Pit river, to the calm waters of Baum lake and finally being a witness to the amazing "Hex hatch" on the Fall river, provide an excellent fly-fishing experience!
The Lodge has been beautifully restored, the rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Michelle Titus, the owner and hostess of the lodge, is very warm and personable! She treats all of her guests and friends as family. The meals are exceptional, the chef Noelle prepares fresh cookies that are available to snack on ALL DAY! The dinners are five star delicious! The guests, the guides, and hosts sit together at meal times and this makes for good company and great stories! This also provided me with the opportunity to meet with the other fishing guides. I found them to be very friendly and knowledgeable. I can honestly say that I would be more than happy to fish with any of them. My four days at the lodge went by too quickly. I would have loved to stay longer...maybe next time!

I had the pleasure of returning to Clearwater Lodge this past weekend. I tool my son, who is just getting in to fly fishing. Mike Peters, one of the Clearwater Guides, gave my son a lot of personal attention and instruction. By the end of the weekend, he was hauling in fish left and right!

Michelle and her staff have maintained the very high bar they set last year for the quality of the overall experience. The meals were exceptional.

One of the most amazing things about Clearwater is the diversity of trout water accessible within a short distance of the lodge. We fished Section 3 of the Pit River on Saturday for most of the day, then caught a couple of nice rainbows on world-famous Hat Creek on the way back to the lodge. On Sunday we put a boat into McCloud Reservoir and used it to run upstream to the upper McCloud River. It was one of the best fly fishing days ever... there were three of us fishing and TWICE during the day all three of us had fish on at the same time. Simply amazing.

My fourth year up at the lodge and it never disappoints. Michelle runs a first class operation that allow you to fuse five-star comfort with a perfect wilderness getaway. The food is amazing and the lodge is all inclusive - making it a destination that forces you to unwind and relax. (don’t worry it has WiFi).

The location, based in some of the best fly fishing habitat equidistant to diverse fisheries, allows this lodge to offer you more than any other venue - walk and wade the Pitt or the Hat, drift boat on Baum lake, and a few well stashed motorized boats to give you access to the numerous spots on the Fall. I’ve done multiple spots in one day - nearly impossible elsewhere.

Clearwater sources your guides and has warding gear for you (perfect if you are beginners to your annual fishing trip). A Fly Shop on premises is a great bonus as well. All the guides are great and it’s been amazing year after year.

I can’t wait until next time!
