Welcome to 1906 Lodge, where breakfast comes with mimosas and cocktail hour means wine and nibbles, on the house. When the coastline beckons, our Innkeepers will provide everything from beach chairs and umbrellas to bicycles. Inside and out, 1906 Lodge cradles guests in comfort and elegance. On balmy days, enjoy breakfast in the garden. When the sun dips, settle indoors beside the in-room fireplace or in a soaking tub. While the look and feel of each bedroom is original, with individual features, all are utterly relaxing spaces. Biking, sailing or just relaxing by the beach – 1906 Lodge is wrapped up in Coronado Island’s coastal charm. You’re a short stroll to Main Street’s boutiques, galleries and bistro culture, with the beach just two blocks away. The Innkeepers can line you up for trolley and gondola tours, ferry rides to San Diego, or tickets to theatre shows. Be sure to leave time for a nice walk around town, taking in ‘Crown City’s’ grand mansions, charming cottages and coastline.

Coronado Island is well known for its iconic Hotel Del Coronado, gorgeous beaches, fabulous sunsets and island charm. If you have plans to visit the area, I highly recommend the 1906 Lodge for your accommodations.

We recently spent 3 nights at the 1906 Lodge, based on recommendations from friends, and they are now deservedly owed a fine bottle of wine. The stay was a perfect 10 and more than exceeded our expectations. Its proximity to Orange Avenue and the beaches yet away from the hotel crowds made the location ideal. And for those who wanted to explore a little more of the Island, the Lodge provided golf carts and bicycles for a reasonable fee.

Breakfast was served every morning and each morning the menu was different and delicious and accompanied by bottomless mimosas and coffee. The tranquil garden location where breakfast was served and the friendliness of the staff, helped ensure a pleasant start to the day. Afternoon hospitality was also available but we never made it back in time to enjoy the drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

Our room, the Country Club suite, could not have been more perfect. The king size bed was fitted with luxurious linens and pillows and the bathroom was equally well appointed with high end soaps and lotions. Plush robes and comfortable chairs made time in the room even more enjoyable.

I realize this review is more of a commentary than a simple review but the 1906 Lodge is more than just a hotel and deserves the added kudos.

We are thrilled to learn you enjoyed your stay with us. The staff and I thank you for this very complete and nice review. Here at the 1906 Lodge, a small 17 room hotel, we find it easier to concentrate on each guest, their needs and their comfort. Coronado is such a lovely destination. The beach, restaurants and shops are all very close by so it is easy, after enjoying breakfast in the garden, to site see on foot, on one of our loaner bikes or in one of our little street legal golf carts. Coronado has it all! Best to and again Thanks!! Please return to us soon. Susan Nelson and the Innkeepers of the 1906 Lodge

We just love this property and have been staying at the 1906 since shortly after they opened in 2009. They have done a wonderful of job continuing to keep it a lovely experience through the staff, rooms/suites, common areas and amenities.
Susan, the head innkeeper, has been with the lodge since they opened in 2009. She has done a terrific job of finding and hiring excellent staff throughout the years. The innkeepers and housekeepers and so kind, helpful and thoughtful. They go out of their way to be sure that your stay is the best it can be.

This time we stayed in North Island which is one of the suites on the second floor. It is a lovely unit and we were able to take advantage of the special for a 30% reduction when you stayed three or more nights through the end of February. They run many specials throughout of the year that are shown on the website. We have stayed in both the lodge rooms and the suites. They all have some great things to offer.

We found a lovely bouquet of roses and some chocolates in our room with a card welcoming us back. They always seem to find a way to make you feel special.

They still have the free underground parking, beach chairs/towels/umbrellas, bikes to use, breakfast, happy hour and cookies throughout the day.
They are a short walk to the beach, Hotel Del and many restaurants. They are happy to make suggestions and reservations for anything you might like.

They have added mimosa's to their breakfast which is great treat and you are able to make them yourself. We thought the food was really delicious on this trip for both breakfast and happy hour.
Every time we return and leave, we are welcomed with open arms and hugs. Susan and her staff are so warm and friendly in every way. We only hope that God will bless with another visit in the future.

My wife and I experienced one of the most relaxing weeks during our stay at 1906 Lodge. Even though Covid-19 made it so that some food options were limited, the staff did their best to accommodate us and the local options that were open were more than sufficient to keep us happy for a whole week.

The jetted bath tub is the highlight of the room and it does not disappoint. The adjacent work space/office is perfect for the couples that need a place to work during the week or weekend. The bed is large and comfortable.

My wife and I will be returning for more relaxing weeks without a doubt.

We escaped to Coronado for a weekend stay-cation and had the most wonderful time at 1906! From the bottomless mimosas and delicious breakfast, to the afternoon Sangria, luxury eco-friendly toiletries, sparkling clean rooms, friendly and attentive staff, free and secured parking, beach chairs/umbrellas, complimentary bicycles for riding around the city...this historic lodge is the perfect spot to unwind and relax and the best value on the island. Great attention to every detail and very welcoming. The location was perfect for walking to the beach and restaurants and strolling along the waterfront. We would gladly stay here again and recommend to our friends.

Nothing better than vacationing in your own back year...especially when you own back yard is at the beach! Sounds like you had a lovely "stay-cation" as you took advantage of so much we, the 1906 Lodge, and Coronado has to offer. Return to us for another perfect weekend in Coronado. Best, Susan Nelson

Stayed in the North Island room which was a Grand Spa King Suite. The spa tub was big enough for two and I’m 6’2”. A sitting room with two leather chairs and an additional TV was nice addition as was a balcony with two chairs. Also had a large TV over the fireplace and a large shower. Only complaints I had was room wasn’t available at 3pm even though they text to ask what time I would arrive and also the breakfast there isn’t any choice and as vegetarians we couldn’t eat the main dish. The lodge is very well kept and it’s in a great location near restaurants, coffee, and very short walk to the beach.

jmmaxus, Thanks for staying with us! We hear lots of favorable remarks about our Spa Tubs! Glad to hear you like it too. Please accept our apologies. As I remember the room was ready shortly after the 3pm check in time. But yes, you are right, we should have had it available right at 3pm. Please understand this is uncommon occurrence. I regret this was your first impression. Again, apologies to you and your traveling companion. Susan Nelson

We stayed here for a week in September. Once we checked in, the windows were open in the room, but it quickly cooled off and had no problems with the A/C keeping it cool. Our Garden King Spa Guestroom was perfect for us; plenty of space, comfortable bed, and a mini-fridge. They even provide glass bottles of water that you can refill there. We enjoyed the breakfast and they even accommodated a gluten-free diet. The afternoon happy hour was a nice way to start the evening on the town, and the garden at that time was mostly shaded. The location was great, in a quiet area, but walking distance to the beach and great restaurants. We used the bikes too, and they provided locks so you can hop in a store. Overall, we're happy we chose this place and highly recommend.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Grand Spa Room, then moved to another "historic"room (the Winchester) for 2 nights due to unavailability of the Spa Room (We knew that we would have to move when making the reservation). We did not take part in happy hour as we do not drink alcohol. The rooms were nice but very dark. The Winchester room was an ADA room which we did not request or notified as such, the shower drain was slow allowing water to overflow into a secondary drain that was positioned in front of the toilet, making a mess. The main showerhead did not spray warm water for some reason, not cold, but cool. The secondary showerhead mount was "upside down" so the unstable showerhead kept falling and nearly broke my wife's foot, and also struck my wrist until I noted that it was mounted wrong. The shower water pressure in both rooms actually was very low, they should upgrade the shower hardware for as much as the room charge is. The wifi did not work in the Winchester room, tried various methods without success (I am tech savvy). The staff was notified of these issues upon check out. The free breakfasts were all very similar in taste and appearances.
The parking was very tight, but understandably so as real estate is very costly, was nice to have free parking. This is a nice location, but quite costly and we will probably not stay there again. It was our 34th wedding anniversary and I wished it would have been a little better experience. We are not very experienced travelers so maybe this is just to be expected.

Dear Guest, We regret the issues you found in the historic Lodge room and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will have a plumber take a look at this tomorrow! The ADA guest rooms (we have 2) are larger than other guest rooms of the same room type and we find most guest appreciate the extra space at no extra cost. I too regret that your experience with us was not up to par. Thank you for this information which will help us to improve service in all areas. Susan Nelson

1906 Lodge is a sweet boutique hotel in an area location, just a block or two from the beach (and the famous Hotel del Coronado). It's also walking distance to all sorts of restaurants and shops. The hotel welcomes you with fresh-baked cookies when you arrive, and offers a wine-and-beer happy hour everyday at 4 pm, complete with snacks! Breakfast is included, and delicious. (And also includes the option of mimosas.) One other wonderful perk: free use of "fixie" bikes. And Coronado is a fantastic place to bike! Just one tip: All the rooms seemed to be lovely, but some have patios, jacuzzi tubs, and fireplaces. Book directly with the hotel (as opposed to an online service) and you'll probably get one of those. (Or make sure to request one.)

Thank you for your kind review. Yes, it is wonderful to be here on Coronado Island with so much so close to us including the beach, shops, restaurants and theaters. Guests need not worry about breakfast at the 1906 Lodge since it is included. Discovering where to lunch and have dinner are a great part of the fun during your visit. Coronado is bustling with lots of great restaurants with all kinds of menus - but especially seafood options! Ask the Innkeeper for local food favorites next time you visit. Thanks again. Best, Susan Nelson

We stayed in the Country Club themed room. The room was very large including a large bathroom with a spacious jet bath tub and shower. We had a delicious breakfast each morning in our terrace complete with a mimosa. We were able to take provided beach chairs and walk to the beach a short walk away and enjoy the sunset. Happy hour was great with a snack of pasta, cheese, and crackers and wine, sangria, or beer. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends.

Return to us soon. This winter perhaps? Remember it may be winter, but it is always summery on Coronado Island. Many thanks, Susan Nelson

This Lodge is in a great location on Coronado Island. If you don't like the grand-ness or busy-ness of the Del, I would highly recommend it. You can easily walk to the beach or get on the bikepath. You can easily drive on and off the island from this location - we took day trips each day to LaJolla, Cabrillo, and other spots. Very quiet, charming outdoor areas and common rooms. Free parking and bike usage. Nice breakfast. The only thing I would wish for is an exercise area, otherwise I would give it a 5 star rating instead of 4.

Dear KB, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We considered an exercise area but with many opportunities just outside our door and near perfect weather year around by we decided instead to offer loaner bikes, recommendations for the best walking/jogging on the island's neighborhoods, beaches and bays and of course locations of good restaurants for your reward after! Several fitness centers are near by including our Coronado Community Center located on the Silver Strand - it is a wonderful space with a bay view. And it too is within walking distance of the 1906 Lodge. Thank you for choosing the 1906 Lodge. We hope you will return to us. Susan Nelson
