Detailed Reviews
The Crown was a welcoming respite on a wet winter's day. Hand sanitizer was available on entry and staff asked customers if they had 'logged in' on the NHS app.
Staff were very friendly.
Although we did not want a main meal we had to order 3starters between us to count as a 'substantial meal' Having said that the 3starters we had were all very tasty - stout infused smoked salmon on sourdough bread; creamy wild mushrooms on sourdough bread and mashed aubergine on toast with spicy salsa.
There was plenty of seating in this spacious pub -there was a decent wine list &Fullers own 'London Pride' and Hophead bitter on draught. Prices were reasonable.

We are just back from a 4night B&B stay. Overall we had a nice stay and the staff are lovely and very efficient in their jobs. You will need to pay your bill on entry and they then charge any tabs to that same card at the end of your stay.
There were a couple of niggles for us though. Our room (6) had a horrible smell to it from day 1 but I have a very good sense of smell and my husband didn't notice anything. However on the second day he could smell it as well and each time we went in there. We think it must've been damp from the bathroom due to a lack of natural ventilation. Also, I used soo much water (hope they're not on a meter!) as although the shower is powerful and hot, the spray jets are blocked and spray everywhere-bit of a mare when you have long thick hair that you need to get shampoo out of etc as it took a while!
The weather also changed while we were there and our room got really cold (as was the pub at times)-we found an electric heater in the cupboard on our last morning though, didnt think to look before then! 🤦♀️
We stayed during new covid restrictions and had no concerns on that front-all of the staff are very good at implementing and enforcing the new rules (face masks on when not at table etc). Tables etc instantly cleaned as people leave before others can sit down, everything table service.
We found the food pricing a bit on the high side for what you got and portion size varied quite a bit depending on the meal. Breakfast was very nice but again inconsistent on portion size/presentation depending on who the chef was that day.
The pub itself oozes history and has a nice feeling about it and the staff do it justice.
The carpark is across the road and you will be given a code by staff for the barrier when you want to leave. It was a good base for us as walkers and we had a couple of lovely meals out in Bishops Waltham as well.

It’s ages since we ate at the Crown or even had a drink, we’ve not used pubs or restaurants much over last few months. We met friends for a light lunch. They seem really well organised around Covid security and all the waiting staff wear masks. Tables distanced etc. Waiting staff efficient.
However, the food we had was mediocre. The chicken liver pate was nowhere near as nice as when I last had it..rather tasteless and very soft texture.the relish with it was also tasteless. The chips were flabby. The bit of salad Garnish on the plate tired and inedible. The water bottle we had was dirty. The table had not been properly wiped clean. The merlot was fine though but there’s not much that can go wrong with a bottle that just needs opening.
Sorry Crown you do let yourselves down, it’s not like it was very busy. The building itself is always nice to be in but why bother when food standards so low ?
I’ll stick to just a drink in future.

£100 for a room with an ensuite bathroom which looked OK but had no hot water and water would not go down waste in basin. Electrics should be condemned as fizzing. Fire door does have gap all around it! Power went off and then no heating as only electric on second floor. Very tired room never seen a tv that old! The live music is interesting as very loud in rooms. Never anybody to complain or ask questions hence no wi fi all our 3 night stay. No food availale as chef away.
But the best bit was to get home and find we have a parking ticket for £50 for the 'free' carpark while we were actually booking in. Have not sorted that out yet!

Dear Munchkin59, I fear there has been an error in your review looking at your previous post at the Crown Hotel in Emsworth. I have tried reporting this to Tripadvisor, with no avail, so if you are able to remove your review, that would be greatly appreciated! But on a positive note, if you are ever around Bishops Waltham, we would love to welcome you with our working hot water and electrics, flat screen TVs, working WIFI, and fresh cooked to order food without fail 365 days of the year! lastly there are 100% no fines from our car park, so you would be sad to leave us! Best Regards Chris Garrett General Manager

This is a copy of the email I have sent to the management Fullers. Avoid this place at all costs! (I have never written a review like this before - I tend to think that hotel staff are "doing their best". I'm afraid I didn't think this here.)
I need to complain most strongly about a 2 night stay in The Crown Inn, Bishop's Waltham.
We booked it thinking it would be a good place to take some friends for dinner whist on our trip South from Yorkshire.
We had booked two dinners, one for 3 people and one for 5 people on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
On the Tuesday afternoon, just 3 hours before our booking we were informed that there was a "problem with the kitchen" and they had to cancel our two bookings.
Strangely they could still provide our two booked breakfasts.
The room was lovely, but the floor was rather covered in fluff, we noticed at once that the waste plug in the washbasin wouldn't work properly.
We coped with it that night and then the next morning there was no hot water!
We were told that the gas had tripped and it would be sorted.
We reported the washbasin problem and was told that would be sorted.
The room was not serviced during the day.
We were told when we left that we should have requested the room service, but we hadn't been told this.
So we didn't get any replacement coffee. tea, or water.
Also the water in the washbasin was still cold and the waste tap had still not been repaired by the evening the same day.
The water was still cold that night and in the morning and the washbasin had still not been repaired.
When we complained we were told that it is an old building and we should expect some problems!
Fortunately the shower was presumably electric as it worked well.
On the positive side we had four excellent breakfasts, but the service was rather slow.
It was useful to be able to recharge our electric vehicle overnight.
We paid £318 for these two nights, but did feel that we should be eligible for some sort of refund as this is hardly the sort of accommodation we would expect for that price.

The staff were unfailingly pleasant. The Crown is on a busy roundabout and it is noisy. We never had any hot water in the basin despite speaking to the staff. Breakfast is served in the bar area and the housekeeping staff are vacuuming and cleaning up at the same time! The duvet was very thick and we were far too hot, we had to take the cover off the duvet and use it as a sheet. The bathroom was not cleaned during our two day stay, they just made the bed. Dust balls were under the side table in the room and there was still an auction house sticker on its leg. The evening meal was ok. Should we travel to the area again we will be staying somewhere else!

Hot day and we ordered a few bar bites which were excellent especially the black pudding scotch eggs. The young lady behind the bar even put some ice in the dog bowl of water she brought out. Very good pub. Spent a couple of hours waiting for the heat to reduce before walking home. Highly recommended

I urge you to take a look a closer look at the reviews for this Fullers establishment. Note the number of 5* reviews from individuals who have left a total of 0-5 reviews (the FTART, or "Fullers Trip Advisor Remediation Team"), vs the number of review from genuine punters that are 1-2*.
This afternoon myself and my team visited The Crown in Bishops Waltham for a business meeting and were unfortunately on the receiving end of the single worst hospitality experience any of us can remember.
From the moment we entered the rather lovely building to the moment we joyously exited, the two members of staff on shift (there was no senior Front of House person in sight), were the two rudest and most astonishingly disrespectful individuals I have encountered in any hospitality scenario.
A very brief synopsis; we were greeted with genuine and significant disdain by the barman upon arrival. His solitary colleague was equally discourteous.
The barrels needed changing for almost every beer on tap (there were less than 10 people in the bar).
One of our sandwiches was utterly stale (think "crouton"). Said sandwich wasn't taken off our bill, no discount was offered and we had to ask to speak to the manager before this was eventually deducted.
Every single staff encounter we had was a miserable (to the point of laughable), experience.
Overall, the attitude of the staff throughout was the most appalling any of us have encountered in any hospitality setting and we shall certainly not be returning.
I urge you, if you are visiting the area and until things hopefully improve, to visit one of the many, many private or brewery owned establishments within a very short drive of Bishops Waltham; Durley, Upham, Swanmore, Exton, Wickham are all within a 10 minute drive and offer the most wonderful of country pubs where you won't be treated as an inconvenience.
The Crown is an enviable Fullers tenancy in an supremely enviable location and this establishment is not being done justice. For now, take your money elsewhere.

Small hotel in a convenient central location with a large car park opposite. Captured French Admiral Villeneuve was billeted here after Trafalgar and the accommodation areas are themed accordingly; most rooms named after a French ship with a potted history of that vessel included in the room's decor.
Room: Not the largest but adequate for our needs; bed a little soft, but not so soft as to be an issue. Furnishings are heavy to suit the theme of the decor and a real plus was the huge bedside tables, plenty of space for phones/laptops etc and electrical sockets wall mounted above them. Bathroom not presentationally perfect - it is a very old building - but clean and functional.
Evening meal: in the pub downstairs, well organised, no complaints.
Breakfast: An extensive menu and an 'all you can eat' approach to what you order from it. Quality was excellent.

My wife and I stayed overnight in this delightful traditional hotel/pub. The room and en-suite bathroom were huge and very comfortable with little noise, so we had a great night's sleep. Great quality plentiful and delicious breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is very convenient for the town centre and has excellent free parking adjacent. Highly recommended if you want to visit this charming area.

Hello Susan,
Thank you for booking with us and I can tell you our rooms are not cookie cutter rooms (we have no choice there as being a listed building, from the 5ft doors, crooked floors and history in each room) I have spoken to the taxi company and they have informed me that a taxi to the port will be £35, we can book this for you when you check in.
hope this helps, if you do have anymore questions then please do get back in touch.
Kind Regards
Kenny Dryden
