Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called in at short notice, most places were booked out, had a 3bdrm apartment for 2 of us but we enjoyed our stay, clean & tidy, friendly staff. Could do with some renovations but still comfortable. GREAT shower after a long day on the bike. Close to restaurants etc

Do not stay here …. You will be very disappointed Their customer service is terrible and they misrepresent the property on the web site I only received note advising there is no reception on site (shared with another property 200m down the rd) hence there is no staff watching or managing “activity “ at each unit Stay away !

My partner contacted settlers twice to inform them our arrival would be delayed due bad weather delaying the interisland Kaitiaki from birthing, My partner had difficulty comprehending the poor English spoken by the receiver., however we were told to call on arrival and where to get the key. We arrived at our destination between 8 -9 pm, my partner contacted settlers and had walked about a 100 meters along the road to collect the key. We were given the key to room 5 which we found used and uncleaned, dirty bath towel left on the dinning table bath room left in a used state, bed was unmade. My partner walked back to where he got the key, he received an apology and given the key for room 7. Room 7 was disheveled in appearances, , it stank over whelming of air diffuses one of which I put out side, couple of the pillows smelt musty greasy hair stale smelling. A rusting microwave sitting on wall brackets that had seen better days, the fridge ice box cover was broken, dirty hand marks around doors and handles, ranch slider sticking, chipping around mirror in shower room, a used flannel was left hanging in the shower, bathroom soap dispensers where empty or not working, hole in net curtain over kitchen bench, no tea towel, overall cleanliness and presentation of the room for $155 was of well below standards we have experienced else where. It was terrible. As it was getting very late by the time we were kept running back and forth, we stuck it out and could not wait to leave the next day, I do not recommend this place. I see their photos on the web site are glowing but they are nothing like what we were provided elsewhere, NZ is renowned for providing high standards in motel services. By all accounts this place was terrible. One more matter for concern, they had deducted money from my credit card before we had arrived, Disgusting behavior.

On arrival we were greeted with a note on the office door requesting quests to go up the road to the Dupont Motel to get the key. The Midway Pacifica Lodge Motel is also run from here as well. The room was very tired and the furnishings very faded, but our issue was the poor standard of cleaning. On arrival we cleared cobwebs from the wall, and things did not improve. The bed covers were pulled up but the bed wasn’t made, the sheets remained crumpled and disheveled. The dishes were rinsed and left to drain on the bench and no tea towel was supplied. Coffee cup stains remained on the bench and bedside cabinet. We did get clean towels every day and the shower had great pressure, but it was not cleaned daily. There was mold behind the toilet. An empty beer bottle remained in a bucket in front of the room for the duration of our stay. Very disappointing stay.

The room was very nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the shower head was great plus some great smelling lotions/soaps were complimentary to the room. The bedroom was large and the bathroom was really clean. Will definitely stay here again, because of the location and cleanliness.

Comfortable bed. Quiet neighborhood. Good night sleep. Very close to lots of great restaurants, shops, cafes and bars walking distance nearby. The location was perfect as well. The decor was very clean, I felt like I was at home.

Units are nicely presented. Clean, tidy with kitchenette area + table and chairs. Bathroom was very dated, but still functional. To check in we had to go to another motel up the road to collect our key. This was a little bit random! Would recommend if you are looking for somewhere to stay overnight.

We have stayed on a number of occasions at this motel and have found it to be clean, comfortable and warm. We chose this motel because we can take our small dog and that is appreciated. However since a change of ownership it is now necessary to walk along the street to another motel to collect the room key. There is no one on duty at this motel. This is a major inconvenience especially if it is cold windy or wet. When we arrive at a motel we expect to be able to get to our room without delay.

The description of this room on both Expedia and Booking.com said there was a stove top (hob) in the room which I needed so I could cook my meals during my stay as I am disabled and a diabetic - I even rang prior to booking online to confirm this with staff and was advised this was the case, but when we got there we found that this was incorrect no stove top at all! For the price of the room, I didn't expect to see wires coming out from the wall above the TV, an awful shower that was extremely dated and had quite a high step up to enter it, no information folder to explain WIFI and other helpful information (Like ph no for office for example), really badly stained chairs that I would not ever wish to sit in (let alone pay to do so) and in general it just looked very worn, dated and awfully shabby! The office is closed so you have to go to The Dupont to book in (down the road), and when I went there to complain, I was given a new room which was slightly better but still had no stove top. Back I traipsed to The DuPont (yay! There was an info folder in the 2nd room but the phone didn't work) and I was given a replacement room at the DuPont. This room only had 1 bed when I needed two - I was with my adult son - but apparently this was all they could do for me so having no other choice, I accepted. We had an influx of ants in the room, not only in the kitchen but also in the sleeping area and in the bed which made sleep impossible. Staff were less than helpful and didn't come to deal with this as they promised until I rang late at night, very angry & demanded they do something. They came with a spray which stank the room out (strong chemical lemon smell) even though I had told them my son suffers from asthma...they didn't care and sprayed anyway leading to a sleepless and wheezy, miserable stay. I was not offered compensation despite asking by email and was basically brushed off with deflection and excuses....I will NEVER stay in either Motel ever again! The same people own Midway Pasifica on the same stretch of road, so one can only hope it isn't as badly run as either the Settler's or the DuPont! **Please note: In all fairness we have stayed at the DuPont prior to this latest awful stay, but we were in one of the upper story rooms which was quite satisfactory and did not have an ant problem. This latest stay saw us placed in a ground floor room which was substandard to our needs and had the ant problem! The staff are different from our last stay too and the service is atrocious!

Had to walk up the street to collect keys. No reception. Sign on window. I was told it had just been bought. But reviews show this has been going on for over 6 months at least. The property needs some maintenance - sliding doors don't slide; maintenance in bathrooms needed. Would be OK if not expensive - but this was up there price-wise. Good wifi. Bed not bad.
