Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Generally a great experience. Though miscommunications left me getting a long taxi ride to Moague, it wasn't too bad. Charly waited for me there and did his best to explain his the place worked with broken English and gesticulations.

I stayed camping which was very cheap and found it pleasant and cheap (maybe a little bit expensive for a continental breakfast which was just baguettes, jam, coffee and juice but still..) No bikes available nor at Cocotier across the way so couldn't go far unfortunately but just enjoyed the beach.

Great views and a great spot. Simple. Perfect.

Room Tip: If you can drive, go out to get breakfast. For dinner, have the shrimp (crevettes).

Gite Moague is in Mouli - the most beautiful stretch of sand at ouvea lagoon. The beach is incredible here, the water turquoise and almost no other tourists. It is really a paradise if you like a calm getaway. It has simple traditional rooms with common bathrooms. Room and bathrooms were clean with hot water. Shades at the beach. Beware, that you have to order meals 24 hours in advance (like almost everywhere in New Caledonia). Breakfast was a bit bland for the high price. They organize trips, scooters or diving, however tend to charge for everything (had to pay 10 EUR for a short phone call to the local diving operator..). But all in all, if you can put up with that, its a cool place at an incredibly stunning location.

Great island, beach, sea, countryside, people, ... however this place needs few serious efforts around :
- attention to cleaness
- maintenance of the place and its facilities
- additional long chairs, tables and chairs, kayaks + some hammocks & parasols
Then it would remain a simple and basic accomodation but more pleasant

We were autonomous for bfast and did not try the food (going elsewhere)
Not pricy but expensive for the little and average you get

The place is lovely, on the beach, but the boss is an aggressive idiot you don't want to interact with (which is sad as Ouvea is full of lovely people!)... Very bad experience. You should avoid this place, there is plenty of other nice and inexpensive accommodations in nearby local tribes ("accueil en tribu" in French).

We just spent 3 beautiful days at this place and had a great experience with the owners and their family. They were really helpful and you could feel how important their island is for them. We surely recommend it! Lolo & Soane

Stayed for one night having been 'relocated' from Chez Dydyce to accommodate wedding guests!
Huge upside is it's absolutely stunning unspoilt beach location and pleasant grounds. The huts are also clean and tasteful with tiled floors and electricity. It does have hot water.
To enjoy this you must put up with rather blunt 'customer service' of the staff (makes a change from corporate 'have a nice day' though. More like Scarborough guest house battleaxe). Toilets/shower are useable but a long way from 'spotless' and the cooking facilities are very basic- 2 dirty gas rings and a dud lighter along with 1 fork, 2 cups and plastic cutlery. Apparently you can get more if you ask nicely(in French- zero English spoken). A very long way from any shops though it does have an expensive restaurant (which we did not try).
Overall we thought it was worth it for what is a world class beach location- others obviously don't- hence the polarised ratings.

Simple accommodation in a very beautiful setting on a stunning beach. Charly runs a boat trip in the mornings which was fun. If you don't speak French make sure you bring a phrase book as communication can be very difficult otherwise. Very relaxing place to stay, make sure you bring insect repellent, there were lots of mosquitoes in my case so a mosquito net would also have been appreciated.

Very cold welcome. Host absent. Dinner is good at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. the young girls told me we're closing. Ok. I ask what time I can come for breakfast. The owner's daughter answers me from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
I saw the owner who greeted me from afar, did not speak to me. I waited until 8am: no one. Instead of staying 3 nights, just one was enough for me. Very disappointed.
