East Rhidorroch Estate is situated in the north-west of Scotland, eight miles (thirteen kilometers) from the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool on the beautiful West Coast. It offers self-catering accommodation on an organic family run farm. We are off-the-grid, with no television or mobile telephone signal and produce our own hydro-electricity. East Rhidorroch is a truly secluded place if you wish to get away from it all, entertain friends and family or just enjoy a peaceful holiday.

As a tour guide, I know Scotland very well and I was looking for a special place to blow my guest's away. I could not have chosen a better place. The valley, including the river, waterfalls and Loch's are stunning and you are almost guarantied to see lots of dear, sometimes very close. As soon as you arrive at there little bridge, you will for sure leave reality behind and relax in a beautiful setting. Again, you are spoiled for choice staying in a cottage or higher the big house with a gun room, snooker table and everything else proper Scottish style. It is perfect for beautiful walks, including a magic waterfall, climbing, jumping into the pool, gorge waking for the more adventures people, fishing and I will be back for some dear stoking in the future. All it's left to do, is finding my dream woman and the weeding place is sorted (-:
Thank you guys for the fantastic experience and see you soon again.

Our first impression of the East Rhidorroch estate was simply......wow!!! The 8 mile journey along a superbly stunning backdrop of mountains, lochs and stream came with a view of the fantastic wildlife including sheep, horses, cows and deer! Then, after passing through the 2 gates along the private track, we arrived at the cottage and our initial impression of wow was absolutely correct. A beautiful cottage with bags of character and charm came with very comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen (which we made the most of every night) and a beautiful lounge with books and a wood stove(with complimentary wood). The surrounding estate had lochs with boats which were great fun (especially the motor boat), loads to explore and a stunning waterfall ( ask for directions and look for a post with blue taped stripes!!) The owners were fantastic, friendly and most helpful. We couldn't praise them or the cottage/estate highly enough. We tended to venture off through the day to nearby (up to a 2 hour drive though) attractions including:
A fantastic seal trip at Plockton approx 2 hours away,
The Bone Caves approx 45 mins away
The incredible Achmelvich beach 1 hour away
the highland wildlife park 2 hours away
as well as local walks and the lovely little town of Ullapool to walk around.
All in all we couldn't have wished for a better holiday and even got a fair share of nice weather to accompany a brilliant 10 night stay at East Rhidorroch Cottage

East Rhidorroch Lodge is a step away from the norm, a digital detox and what a detox – breath-taking scenery, a warm welcome and great fun. You have to work at it though!! It’s 25mins down a track that a 4x4 would glide over, it was no problem for our Ford Galaxy, though we do wish we’d had a 4x4 to explore further than the lodge. Iona & Julian will take you up to the lodge in theirs, though it would have been good to have our own. We knew this before and it didn’t reduce our experience.

The lodge is comfortable, and well used though not in need of updating, as its’ charm shines through in its setup. You have all the mod cons you’d need (though no toaster!!), and obviously no TV/Wi-Fi. It has plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms that our party (6 adults & 4 children under 3.5yrs) had no problems. We didn’t take a cook with us on this trip and in hindsight this might have made the holiday easier as there is no dishwasher!!

Activities-wise some of our party went on a successful days stalking and otherwise days were spent playing around in the river/lochs, catching trout and throwing rocks. We didn’t salmon fish as the river was too low and it’s a good trek to get there also. We had a lovely day up at Loch an Daimh where there is a Bothie to set up a basecamp and with an outboard (from the lodge) we were able to set about catching more trout. All in all over our week we caught around 20 with the largest being ¾ lbs. We had days out in Ullapool and nearby white sand beaches – Achitibuie & Achmelvich.

Iona, Julian & Maddy looked after us so well and made our experience all the better. East Rhiddorch is a magical place that I hope we’ll visit again.

We have just returned from a family trip with friends to stay in the lodge for four days. I thought it was going to be great, but it surpassed all of our expectations. The 40 minute (ish) drive down the track from the main road is the gentle introduction to what is to come. As you say Goodbye to phone reception and mains electricity/water in Ullapool, you are treated by deer on the hills above you, sheep all around you, a loch with jumping trout next to you and at the end, the swing bridge across the river to the lodge and it's cottage. It's basic but with a traditional decor. You'll need to keep the fires going if you want heating and hot water. But wait until you see the gun room and wander at the age of their extensive collection of taxidermy. It's perfect for entertaining with a well equipped kitchen and dining room. The hosts, Iona and Julian really can't do enough for you and with so much to do around you, you'll struggle to find time to relax. A trip to the spectacular 'Smokey Falls' is a must. Deer stalking and trout fishing are all readily available and of course, walking and exploring to enjoy the scenery is what's it's all about. We brought our two children under 6 and they were at their happiest here for sure! Don't come expecting luxury, come expecting to enjoy the simplicity and beauty of the world around you. Something that is hard to buy in this day and age. Thank you Iona and gang, we're already planning our next visit.
