After scouring the web for a Cotswolds retreat for NYE, we only found overpriced or 'out of the way' places to stay. That was until this little beauty popped up.

We stayed in the Stable Apartments and I can't recommend them enough. They are self-contained and all the facilities are new, to a high standard with the complimentary coffee machine there too.

There is ample room and a lovely memory foam mattress for a night of good night sleep, a large shower with digital temperature control and underfloor heating.

The only and I mean only negative I found was the LED lighting; being brilliant white, rather than a warm white.

For the price, we found the place exceptional with a well thought out plan from construction. They really have thought of everything.

Rosa on the front desk was lovely and very attentive to our needs and well being during our stay.
I also left my shirts in the cupboard which Anna meticulously folded and sent to me through the post.

Would I stay again? Without a doubt. It will be our spot when visiting the Cotswolds.

We we're staying in the area and this gem came highly recommend by a local, as a great place to visit.
It has everything for a charming evening out. We turned up early in the day to book a table for that evening. While there we were shown around the outside eating area & were invited to explore the main gardens and water mill history at our leisure.
As we were bringing our dog we would be eating outside, there are lots of different choices of areas, waterside tables, or or by the outdoor open fire or in the pub garden gravelled area. There are plenty of covered areas too for when the weather is questionable. Fantastic atmosphere and ambience.
The staff couldn’t do enough for us, they are a great team, all have excellent manners & customer service skills. All really friendly and very efficient. Good varied menu. All our food was delicious, freshly prepared, well presented and they even provided treats for the dog. Great value for money too.
Cleanliness is to a very high standard, with extra care and emphasis given in light of current covid regs (eg: single use menus, very clear on e way systems, sanitising stations everywhere, tables, chairs, benches continually being thoroughly cleaned once used. )
Tables are very spaciously placed allowing plenty of room for social distancing.
10 out of 10 as a great place to visit & eat. We would defiantly recommend, visit again and hope to stay in the hotel in the future.

We visited for a Mon-Fri mini break in July 2021 and stayed in a superior room in the Mill House building. We were on the top floor and had a lovely garden view. The room had some of the original features as well as a modern bathroom, which we loved. There was a lovely comfy king sized bed, a large TV and a Nespresso coffee machine. The room was a good size and was clean and well maintained. As a part of the hotel's Covid safety measures, housekeeping staff wouldn't enter your room unless requested, which we appreciated as a sensible way to manage this. We asked at the check in desk for some additional coffee pods and were immediately able to take plenty back to our room. Loo rolls were also left at room doors every couple of days so we were happy with this arrangement and didn't require anything more.

We ate breakfast once and had an evening meal once and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. The food we saw being served to others also looked great. We loved the outdoor seating areas and spent every evening outside and on a cooler evening, next to the firepit, which staff had lit. It was very cosy and their lovely Irish coffees went down a treat at the end of the evening!

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the hotel setting and surroundings were stunning. We'll definitely make an effort to return again in the future.

We stayed at this beautifully converted textile mill for three nights in October. The hotel is well located close to the centre of Nailsworth and has a large free car park. It has a large, popular outdoor seating area around the former mill pond.

Reception had been moved to the bar area and was conducted in an efficient and friendly manner.

Our superior room was on the top floor of the main building overlooking the mill pond, garden and seating area. The attic room was spacious with exposed beams, the bed was comfortable, the decor plain and the furniture plain and simple. There was a separate toilet and a shower room. The shower was strong but the cubicle was cramped, as was the rest of the shower room. I'm not sure what qualified the room description and price as 'superior'.

Breakfast was included in our rate and could be taken in the restaurant or the bar and we preferred the bar, especially because of the featured water wheel. Breakfast was very good - a cold buffet and hot food cooked to order and good service.

The hotel generally was on the cold side, especially the bar and restaurant area, but I think there was a problem with the heating as there were heating engineers on the premises when we left so hopefully this will have improved.

The restaurant was disappointing, mainly because it proved to be too busy for the staff to manage. We had booked dinner early on Sunday evening and were seated promptly and told what menu items were not available but then ..... nothing. There were two large groups which were keeping the staff busy and after 25 minutes we had not even been offered a drink. At this point I did what I have never done before and phoned another local restaurant to see if they could seat us. They could and we left.

Despite this disappointing experience we dined in the restaurant on our second night (mainly because there were few local alternatives open on Monday evening) and this was better. The meal and the service were good though I noticed that some later arrivals were waiting a long time for their meals.

Overall a good visit and we would stay again if in the area.

Had been trying to book a short stay here for some time but had been fully booked . Eventually we managed to book a 2 night stay and was not disappointed. We had a superior room overlooking the beautiful gardens and it was everything we could want lovely clean room with great shower room and complimentary toiletries amazingly comfy bed and tea /coffee making facilities. We were advised that there was no housekeeping on a daily basis due to Covid but if we needed anything replenished to ask. I can honestly say that I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family the hotel is in such a picturesque setting with wonderful outdoor dining and seating area , the staff are exceptional and a credit to the owners , they always had a smile and friendly word and nothing was too much trouble they are the epitome of great customer service. The centre of Nailsworth is just a short walk with lovely quaint shops and some wonderful restaurants, we had lunch and drinks outside at the Olive Tree Mediterranean restaurant which was superb and a fantastic meal one evening at the Amalfi restaurant both well worth a visit . There is a village pub and restaurant called the Britannia which again has wonderful friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The Egypt Mill is ideal for a short break , a nights stop over and especially a wedding as we saw all the effort the staff were putting in to arranging the rooms a bridal party on the day we checked out . Thank you to all the staff for making our much needed post Covid break so enjoyable , we look forward to coming back.

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding at another venue. My review is quite mixed but I do feel it's fair.

Firstly, the hotel is beautiful. The location is great. It looks pretty and I love the old style buildings. When we arrived, we checked in quickly and smoothly. Rooms were in suitable condition upon arrival. Complimentaries were left inside which is always a nice touch.

On the first night, we went out and had some food and then came back, sat in the garden and had some wine. We are former holiday reps so we are a bit loud which I apologised for. The owner came out and told us if we want to stay out and drink we need to go to our rooms, which we did. I didn't mind and apologised however, I was quite annoyed to find that another group were doing the exact same thing on the next night. Especially when it was barely 11pm at the time we did it whereas they were out much later, according to my friends. This is double standards.

On the first morning, we had breakfast. Full English. Eggs had a fishy smell. I have a stomach of an ox so I ate mine but my friends couldn't. When they tried to raise it, the waitress just looked at us and said she doesn't think so and walked off. This is an appalling attitude. We weren't exactly making a fuss but after this we told one of the front of house ladies who was much, much nicer and receptive of the feedback.

I found the hotel to be accommodating of one of my requests, which was to cancel an extra room. I appreciated this courtesy and being charged only for one night. So its good to see flexibility.

One other minor point, is I asked if someone could call us a taxi to get to the venue (we weren't from the area). They just said the numbers were on the wall. Would have been a nice touch to point them out or even offer to call them. In addition, if you leave coffee and tea in the room I'd highly recommend leaving milk capsules.

Overall, this is a beautiful hotel with some great staff but if you are young, then this may not be your vibe. I felt like we weren't taking seriously or treat like guests but more like annoying pain in the arse teenagers. The reality is we are all energetic but otherwise professionally working adults in our mid to late 20s, who do our best to show respect.

Leisure stay for a few nights.
What a lovely location! Shout out to the gardener(s) for the beautiful Mill Garden and planting around the Mill terrace area.
Absolutely fantastic food and good service on both Friday and Saturday nights, but markedly quite slow and poor accuracy on service, or quality of food on Sunday evening. Also not a good look being asked to pay for your meal before your main course is even served.
It would seem that rooms are very varied and a bit of a lottery as to what is allocated. We booked and paid for a superior room and whilst this was a pleasant room, it lacked the stated (on the website at the time of booking) extras of a Superior room. When we mentioned this we were given a coffee maker and room clean which was great, thank you, but ultimately we didn’t feel it met the description given of a superior room, especially from quick glimpses some others with updated decor and bigger TVs ( ours was very small) . It certainly didn’t spoil our trip but didn’t feel quite right.
Clarity, consistency and attention to detail are certainly areas the Mill could work on improving, as this would really improve the guest experience.
Thank you for providing a fan in the room which was in there on arrival and much needed.
This is a lovely place with great further potential.
Staff were warm and welcoming and a great asset.

First visited the Egypt Mill hotel back in 2013 after a great review in The Times. Liked it so much we returned three years later and were equally happy. Sadly having just returned from out third visit things have gone way downhill from what it was.
We were given room 29 in the Jones Building.
Perhaps we were unlucky but having booked a standard room we were surprised when we opened the door to find we were given a family room. Perhaps they felt they were doing us a favour giving us a bigger room? Unfortunately the room was a basement room. It was raining when we arrived, the steps and entrance floor were covered slippery black mould. This area had clearly not been cleaned in some time. I would suggest they need to jet wash this area asap as it is potentially dangerous when wet. The room itself had visibly suffered water damage, extractor fans were on permanently, presumably to keep the room fresh. One of the windows was cracked and a piece of Elasterplast was used to cover it up. A drawer handle was missing, no toilet roll holder, ageing furniture, all in all it was a very depressing environment. On the plus side the bathroom was spacious and very well appointed. Unfortunately, the towel rail holder was searingly hot and on 24 hrs a day making it difficult to keep the room cool. We did request they turn it off but unfortunately they seemed unable to do so.
On the plus side the food was excellent, great cooked breakfast - if a little slow. The breakfast buffet offered was very limited, the focus seems to be on the cooked breakfasts which were very good.
The staff were excellent and very efficient.
We did complain and were offered to change rooms but having unpacked and spent the night there we decided to live with it. We also given a refund of £100 on our booking of £440 b&b on departure.
Having conducted some research it seems the hotel was taken over by the Breakspear Brewery Group a few yews ago, who own several other establishments. The feel of the place now is much less that of a hotel and more akin to a pub with rooms.
It’s certainly a sad reflection of what it was, looks terribly tired in places and looks to be in need of serious investment.
We certainly won’t be returning anytime soon, if you are booking here I would suggest demanding not to be put in the Jones building.
Based on the room we were given I wouldn’t rate this pub with rooms anymore than 1-2 stars (and that’s only based on the bathroom).

Hidden Gem.

We really enjoyed our stay here, we broke a long journey with an overnight stop at Egypt Mill and were very well looked after.

The hotel is in a converted water mill and I like that a lot of the original infrastructure and fittings have been retained, with the bar/dining area flanked by two waterwheels and the walls and ceilings studded with bits of old mill metalwork and in keeping wall art and décor. Outside there are seating areas, perfect for enjoying views of the mill pond with a glass of something, one is covered and features an imposing fire pit for days of less clement weather.

The room was clean, light and airy with a lovely view of the mill stream. People were obviously a fair bit shorter when the building was constructed, I am six feet tall and had to duck to get into the room and bathroom, and none of the upstairs floors is perfectly level, but these are features of any timber building of this age.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which, it turned out meant we were restricted to a small set of menu items. Three main courses (note if you don't eat meat this will mean you have effectively just one option). The starter and dessert choices were fine for me, but I didn't really fancy any of the mains offered. BUT when I told our waitress this, she asked me what I would prefer, and when I said the Wagu burger she swapped it in without hesitation. A small detail, but typical. All the staff were keen to be as helpful as possible. When my burger came it was delicious.

Nailsworth is worth an explore, if you have a couple hours to spare, there's a footpath that takes you to some of the many old Mills in the valley, if industrial heritage is your thing and the town is rich in independent, quirky (sometimes pricey) shops. Try Hobbs House bakery for coffee and a snack, there's a well hidden seating area upstairs.

All in all, highly recommended.

First of all this is a charming, pretty hotel in a stunning setting. The restaurant and bar are clean and decorated beautifully. Second of all the room which we stayed in had a comfy bed but the room was a little tired. Just some small details attended to would have boosted the rooms feel. And thirdly, we was a bit peeved when we wanted to sit alfresco for drinks in the afternoon only to be hounded from our table for a reservation. It felt that as paying customers staying there, we weren’t as valued as those who were booked for dinner. Also we had an incident where a staff member tipped one of our drinks all over the table, my husbands phone and gave mask (this was after waiting about 20mins for said drinks). We were bought a replacement drink but was offered no recompense for the mess to our belongings. The staff didn’t even offer an apology, just made a joke of it. Overall we did enjoy our stay and would stay again. They could just do with working on their customer service style, freshen up the rooms and maybe some more senior staff overseeing the teens who are working there.
