The Pier is situated in the heart of Harwich old town over looking the harbour and the confluence of the Stour and Orwell estuaries. The hotel has 14 bedrooms, several looking out over the coast (a stay in the Mayflower suite is a must). Dine in the restaurant on the first floor with great views, enjoy fresh local seafood landed in the harbour opposite; in the summer (or if its warm enough) there are tables on the balcony which enables you to really savour your surroundings. Worth mentioning are the fabulous sunsets along the river Stour. The restaurant is open from 12 noon with the full menu available until the evening, there's also no need to book but call if you'd prefer to reserve a table. On the ground floor, you'll find the NAVYÄRD bar and terrace, famous for its gin library of 140 gins. The bar is open all day and serves breakfast and light lunch and in the evening is a popular meeting place.

Visited with a friend for lunch. Had to change the time as we were running late. Staff were attentive and helpful. The food was gorgeous and the view across the water is amazing. This is not a 'cheap and cheerful' place. The quality of both the food and wine is excellent. I felt like a new woman when we left, full of good food and wine.

What a fabulous visit we had to The Pier. We could not fault any aspect of the experience – the bar, the restaurant, the sumptuous food, the room – but most of all the exemplary staff who were without exception utterly professional, polite, engaging, friendly and helpful. To go above and beyond accepted standards of service speaks highly of what is required to be a success in the hospitality business. It takes more than a top class product to be successful, it takes a special human touch to make the customer want to return. Which we certainly will do.

We only booked last weekend for a group of 11 to celebrate my wife's birthday. The fantastic communication and customer service from the first email enquiry to checking out was exceptional. The endless emails I sent asking questions and asking for various requests never seemed too much trouble even though I was incredibly demanding! Chelsea and Jessica on reception could not have been more helpful supplying toothpaste and safety pins at short notice. Gillian and Amy’s prompt replies to emails sent was incredibly efficient. The restaurant and bar staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. At no point where we rushed even though we arrived late for our table. The very high standards of cleanliness and condition of the hotel was excellent. The care and attention shown to our party would not be out of place in a 5* London hotel.
