Travellers' Choice
It may be one of the Haven Ports, but there's a lot more to Harwich than boats and water, as a stay at Premier Inn Hotel Harwich will tell you. We're great as a stopover if you're catching the ferry, but there's also plenty to do here even if you're not sailing away. Spend your morning wandering the picturesque streets of Harwich, stumbling across some delightful buildings that date back centuries. Or catch a train to Colchester, Britain's oldest town, to see the castle or visit the world-famous zoo. The Edwardian seaside town Felixstowe is nearby too. Then come back to the hotel for some tasty food at our Brewers Fayre restaurant and a lovely, comfy bed.

Our stay was for two nights a break from home, our room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were fabulous however we booked a meal deal which was also a good ideal, apart from the the first evening meal in the adjoining bar/ restaurant behind bar staff didn't seem to have much of a idea about the meal deals, to be honest it wasn't made clear to us what drinks were included, maybe this should be pointed out when booking we were confused. Next morning our breakfast wasn't great. Back in for our second evening meal which we had book a table near the window but was given another until the staff member who booked us in moved us to the window table. Once again confusion over the meal deal. The waiting staff were very polite and helpful. Second day our breakfast was 100 times better that the mornings before and the staff fab thank you . I must point out that HG Limescale remover would be a welcome addition to the cleaning staffs trolley. The ladies toilets sinks in the foyer between the Inn and the bar desperately need this and my husband also said the gents in this area were no very clean this lets the whole place down our room sink was perfect I might add. Its a shame to write but its honest, it lets down the great staff in the hotel side. Would we come here again? for the room only.

Excellent value for money. Very comfortable bed and soft-close doors everywhere to ensure a great night’s sleep. Very helpful staff. It is in a great location to stay before making the trip across to the continent. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Our stay at the Premier Inn Harwich was great. We tend to use these types of hotels as a base to explore the local areas, and it ticked almost every box, was clean, comfortable and had good facilities as well as a warm, friendly team who did everything to help when needed (e.g. getting an extra pillow, refreshing towels when needed etc.). One slight complaint was the temperature of the room - it was absolutely boiling in there at all times. There was x1 fan in there which was helpful but I think some air con is needed or windows that actually open to allow some air into the rooms. We were travelling with our two young children aged 7 and 4 for a half term break, and went out to different places each day. We had an issue one night coming in at 10pm as the guest in the room directly below ours complained about 'noise' - which was literally us walking into the room, getting the kids ready for and into bed - and would be mostly footsteps as the children were tired and into bed within five minutes of getting in the room. The man came up and knocked on our door aggressively shouting to us to keep the noise down which was awful. He must have then complained to the desk downstairs and to her credit, the wonderful Becky came up to speak to us and to apologise that he had came to our room. We explained (and she could see from the door) that the kids were in bed and we would be getting in ourselves after a busy day and thought there would be no more about it. The following evening, we came in from an early dinner at 6pm, and the same guest on our arrival to our room (where we were coming in to shower, change and pop out to meet some family localy) started banging aggressively on our ceiling and again complained about the noise. Again to her credit, I spoke with Becky who confirmed the gentleman had complained and she had told him that at 6pm this wasn't a time she could ask us to 'keep the noise down' and the noise was again, us walking about in the room getting ready. I don't let my children run riot in hotels or restaurants and she had seen us walking in and out all week so could tell we weren't a 'problem guest'. Aside from this annoying incident our stay was really pleasant and Becky and her team were all super helpful throughout and really friendly, helping with taxis, giving us good local information about restaurants etc. A really great team and we would definitely return.

Pleasant stay HOWEVER... To park in the Premier Inn Car Park you have to drive past the Lidl store. I parked our car in the Premier Inn car park but have received a Parking Charge Notice from Lidl's car park operator Parkingeye. It seems that a '''faulty''' camera has has been a problem for some while and many erroneous Parking Charge Notices have been issued to Premier Inn staff and customers. I have submitted an appeal to Parkingeye but it is a lot of hassle I could well do without. We will not be staying at the Harwich Premier Inn again until we are convinced that the problem has been fixed, which is a shame as the hotel was good and very convenient for the ferry.
