The Ffolkes has been lovingly refitted and refurbished with a £2m investment. Think Poldark, think pewter, copper, Hessian, leather, soft velvet, and rustic wood. We have taken down barriers and let in the light to create a comfortable open space with nooks and crannies to suit even the most discerning of travellers. We currently have 6 double bedrooms available to book, with a further 18 bedrooms due late July 2017.

The Ffolkes Hotel comes highly recommended for its immaculate rooms and bathrooms, which guests find to be consistently spotless. The hotel's amenities, including spa cabins, hot tubs, saunas, and a family-friendly environment, are regularly praised, as is the sumptuous breakfast. While the service can be hit or miss, with reports of both friendly, efficient staff and occasional slow service, the hotel is celebrated for its plush, spacious rooms and inviting atmosphere, complete with elegant decor and homey touches such as fresh milk and marshmallows. Opinions on value, however, are divided, with some guests questioning the pricing and portions of meals.

Me and my partner stayed in one of the spa cabins last night for my birthday. We were greeted by a lovely lady on check in (I didn’t get her name but she was so lovely!), and off we went to our room. The spa cabins are beautiful, included is a hot-tub and a sauna, you get a sofa and a large tv as well as a super comfy bed, I cannot fault the room at all, it was perfect and gives such a lovely view out onto a field as well. They also provide room service meaning we could get cocktails delivered straight to our door (I highly recommend the strawberry sherbet cocktail, it’s delicious!). Unfortunately, our evening meal was not so good, I had a chicken burger with dirty fries, my partner had chicken wings with dirty fries, and we shared some small plates, it was all just very tasteless and bland which was very sad as we were really looking forward to eating here, so we ventured to a place called waffleopolis, 20 minutes away, for dessert instead. Breakfast was lovely in the morning, I couldn’t fault that at all!! All in all we had an absolutely lovely stay but I would just say that the evening food was not great and if we were to stay again I wouldn’t eat dinner in the restaurant.

What an amazing quirky place! Found this gem online after searching and searching for somewhere different to stay en route to the Norfolk coast. What a beauty it is!

Check in was easy asked if we wanted to reserve a table for dinner so got all that ticked off. Enjoyed some drinks in the bar watching the football. LOVED container golf very fun and so well created love the aesthetics!

The bedroom was great I booked “The Mews” quirky is definitely the word to use. Enter on the ground floor to the bathroom - may seem strange but it is a gorgeous bathroom with a shower big enough for two and a large roll top copper bath! Then you head upstairs to the bedroom which has a balcony. Loved the room very comfortable bed and the bath is not one to be missed!!

Food was lovely dinner was pie night - even did gluten free! Breakfast was great buffet but pancakes, omelettes and eggs cooked to order

Thank you again can’t wait to return!!

My husband and I visited the Ffolkes to celebrate my birthday. We stayed in coaching room 6 and had the Sunday pie feast and breakfast the next morning.

We checked in at around 4pm and were pointed in the direction of our room. The room was decorated nicely and the bed was a good size. The pillows were comfortable too. It was a shame to see that some of the decorations near the bed were rather dusty but otherwise the room and bathroom were clean. There was a good sized TV at the end of the bed with plenty of channels.

There was a fridge with chilled water and milk in it, as well as a good selection of teas and coffees, Cadbury hot chocolate pouches and some shortbread biscuits. There was also a full sized ironing board and iron available, as well as a hairdryer.

We went for the pie feast just before 5. It's a help yourself roast with all you can eat dessert too. The pies were nice, the potatoes not very crispy, the veg a little dry and no apple sauce / cranberry sauce but gravy, tomato ketchup etc were available. I'd say it was a pretty average roast dinner, not one I'm desperate to go back for. There were lots of choices when it came to dessert, this was good.

During our stay, there seemed to be a problem with air in the bathroom taps, they kept leaking and making the most awful, loud noise. I mentioned this when checking out so hopefully this has been looked at as it was so loud that we had to tie something round the taps to keep them from doing it during the night.

The fan in the bathroom is also very noisy - i'd recommend turning the bathroom lights off quite far in advance of you wanting to go to sleep to give this time to quieten down. The bathroom door kept banging so I had to prop it open with a cushion, which admittedly meant that the fan noise was louder than it would've been if I'd have been able to keep this door closed.

Unfortunately the lorries that drive past this room at 5:30am sound like a very loud thunderstorm. I envy anyone who can sleep through this. I would not recommend coaching room 6 for this reason, if you are looking for a restful stay.

Breakfast the next morning was good, with lots of choices. I'd definitely recommend the pulled pork, this was lovely.

Although this wasn't the peaceful stay we'd hoped for, perhaps the other rooms at the Ffolkes would be better as the decor and concept of the place is nice. The price definitely reflects the location, rather than the quality. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

My husband and I stayed at The Ffolkes in The Mews room for our wedding anniversary on a Saturday night. I booked this due to the marketing on their website with funky looking yet luxury rooms and it being a sister hotel to The Pigs, which I have stayed at previously and was great. Unfortunately our stay at The Ffolkes was not as good and being in a similar price bracket I expected more.

Some practical things to point out in the room which I hope get taken on board because it really hindered our stay was there are no curtains, only slated blinds in the bedroom. There is a bright light outside that stays on all night and I struggled to sleep because it was so light in the room. The untreated ply wood of the room is also dirty because you can’t clean it and it makes the room echo as there are no soft furnishings, it’s all untreated wood and metal. The stairs feel dangerous and the top step down is a lot deeper than the other steps, with the toilet being downstairs this is a problem, especially during the night. It was also noisy, I’m not sure there is much sound proofing going on in the rooms. You can hear the road and It’s also a really bad idea to have a communal place outside the front of the bedrooms where people can play noisy parlour games. You’re also directly opposite the children’s play area and crazy golf, we heard kids screaming throughout our stay. I booked this for a touch of luxury and felt like I was staying in a kids play area. There are no luxurious finishing touches in the room either, for instance, it’s just sachet coffee which is pretty poor for a £220 night stay.

Eat to the beat is also a really weird concept. It’s just trance music playing repetitively really loudly. I’m not an old person (in my early 30s and it drove me mad!) the DJ also looked really bored and grumpy when we arrived, we were obviously trying to find the bar and he had his hands in his head slumped over his decks. Maybe don’t put him at the front where guests come in!

The identity crisis is, who are you trying to cater for? Is it meant to be a luxury stay with the rooms and spa cabins? Is it a pub for the locals as there is nowhere else to go, is that why the eat the the beat is a thing? Is it a family entertainment place? Is it a wedding venue? I think trying a scattergun approach to cater all of these things is not really working.

For balance, the positives are;

The bath in the room was really lovely, as was the lighting in the bathroom this was by far the best bit of the stay.

The flooring where plywood wasn’t used was also very nice, put that on the stairs!

The food from Oshii was nice and the breakfast in the morning was really good.

The lounge area where you can have drinks away from the restaurant was comfy and nicely decorated and wasn’t too hindered by the music.

Had a great stay at Ffolkes – everything about it exceeded expectations. There were so many thoughtful little touches that elevated the experience: fresh milk in the room (none of those little UHT sachets – thank you!), proper mugs not cups, plenty of toiletries, little sleep packs with blindfolds and earplugs, gowns and delicious complimentary biscuits. Plus they nailed the fundamentals: lovely big bed with cosy bedding, big TV, fantastic bathroom with a great shower and (in our room) a big outdoor bath with plenty of high-pressure hot water. Breakfast was fantastic, and the service was really friendly and helpful. With so many positives the room was fantastic value at not too much over £100, including breakfast.

It feels like a heap of love and effort has been poured into this place, which was characterful and quirky in a very likable way. About as far away removed from a bland and corporate hotel in character as you could possibly get, yet just as good if not better when it comes to the accommodation and food. We would return to Ffolkes in a heartbeat!

We went Saturday night when the Oshii menu was a libel. We both had tacos one pork, one beef, one sweet potatoes. The flavours were good but the portion size was small for the price (£14 for x3 taco smaller than a women fist) and the ‘taco’ was a soft wrap style bread, not the hard shell you might expect. We also had Madeline fries which had a little too much black bean mayo but was still nice. All desserts were ice cream except for an apple pie option which was a bit limiting for someone who can’t eat ice cream so we skipped dessert.

Service was poor overall, We arrived at 17:50 for a table booked for 17:45 and weren’t seated until 18:15. We ended up eating over an hour after our reservation! The waitress was friendly enough but noone came to check on the table after the food was served. We struggled to order more drinks and when we did we asked for no ice (due to sensitive teeth) and both times drinks came with ice. Asked for a menu for dessert which never came & again struggled to flag someone down for the bill.

Overall the restaurant does offer something different than you might otherwise find in the local area but the value for money is poor and the service needs a little work. Also to note is the light pollution is the car park isn’t great and detracts from the rural location.

We had an amazing night in one of the spa cabins. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome and special. We were checked in by a very bright and friendly lady, who gave us all the information we needed and made the start of our stay so easy. The cabin was just perfect, we have had several spa breaks and this was by far our favourite. The facilities were perfect, we loved the way it was all set out. The decor was very modern and vibrant. Luxury feel and very comfortable bed. The views were stunning. Loved the hot tub, so clean and fresh water was lovely, no chemicals made using it so much more relaxing, we went in 4 times! The sauna was a bonus. Fire burner and plenty of wood was so nice and we lit it on arrival and had plenty of wood for the entire evening. Loved the marshmallows and biscuits. Continer crazy golf is highly recommended, fun and tricky layout, great deal on drink and game. The food was excellent, we love street food the breakfast was 1st class. All the staff were so attentive and friendly. All round a wonderful experience, we are going to go back in winter for two nights.

We booked here as was on the way to my parents in holt and wanted to break up the long car journey. The hotel is lovely and modern and clean, plenty of carpark spaces too. We had room number one above the pub which I thought might be noisy but apart from people coming back to the room it was fine. The bathroom was as big as the bedroom and was lovely with all the things you needed. The little touches of shortbread biscuits, fresh milk and filtered water was great.

We stayed at the Ffolkes for one night as a surprise for my partner’s birthday. Unusually, I didn’t check the reviews as, having had many hugely enjoyable experiences at the Pigs, we had intended to stay at the Ffolkes for some time. This seemed an ideal excuse.
We expected another hugely enjoyable experience.

Had I not paid in advance, we would not have stayed.

The surprise was rather more a shock. I have read that £2 million was spent on the refurbishment. The quality of fixtures and fittings in our ‘coaching room’ was lamentably poor. Low quality materials and disappointing finish are unacceptable in a room charged at the Ffolkes rates.

The outside lights shone into our room and made sleeping very difficult.
The single tea bag seemed rather parsimonious.

The bar/ restaurant area is really not to the standard of an hotel charging these rates and somewhat resembled an inner city youth club. The ‘street food’, whilst not unpleasant, appeared to be straight out of the freezer.

The breakfast buffet was generally ok though highly priced for such mediocrity.
A special mention for the ‘omelette’ which was the most disgusting thing I can recall ever being served in a restaurant. It was very greasy and, to make matters worse, it also contained a large hair.

Overall, it was a really sad experience, though I will add the one positive…..the staff were very friendly.

Needless to say, we will not be back.

We have recently stayed at The Ffolkes in one of the spa cabins, we cannot recommend this enough. Every little detail was thought of in the cabin, and although there are 2 other cabins next door it felt as if we were in our own little world and were not disturbed by any other guests. We spent hours in the hot tub and sauna, even though it was January weather it was so beautiful looking over the fields. The food was tasty, including the breakfast. We have never stayed anywhere with more friendlier staff, and really commend them for all they do, nothing was too much trouble, from bar staff to house keeping they were 10/10. We are already looking at returning in the summer.
