Lovely parador with extremely impressive public areas, well appointed rooms and very good swimming pool. Parking is plentiful and free and breakfasts, like most paradors, is excellent. Located in a former castle, the parador has been very well refurbished and, all in all, is a delightful place to stay.
Burning hot cold water in the shower, aircon not working, toilet dripping and poor flush. Restaurant food not up to expectations On the positive side, a beautiful location and a friendly staff Doubtful whether we will return until the above is rectifyed
On top of a hill, it has unbeatable views of the city. Although you are not staying in an actual castle, this is the feeling. With recently renovated rooms and a professional staff according to expectations, a pleasant stay is guaranteed. A night walk through the real castle nearby is highly recommended.
I like hotels. I like fancy hotels which give you that little extra. And Parador De Jaen promised it all. We picked this hotel due to the rest of the ones in Jaen looking a bit poor. Arriving is great, up a fantastic drive way through the park and through the arch. You may find some parking here, but in tourist season or good weather expect to park some walk away. The parking is exclusively for Hotel guests, but theres signs clearly saying that it is not enforced. And as such, all the locals who want a wander around the castle park there. So, good luck to find parking within a 5 minute walk. At reception, the staff were helpful and polite. They did not ecourt us to the room or offer help with bags (which most other hotels of this standard do). The room was fantastic, big, lovely balcony, great twin sink bathroom. But the beds were two singles, which were separated (we are a couple...) Asking reception for a bed that is together, they re-book us into another room. Which we were not allowed to see before hand. And yes this one had a nice big double bed. But it was very small. Single sink, tight bathroom, no balcony, no view. Not worth the swap, and we were unable to change back. Genuinely feel cheated at this. The shower...well, that leaked water everywhere, flooded the bathroom. Turns out that if you have the pressure on maximum the drain can´t handle it, and because there is no lip to the floor, it just flows everywhere. The TV does not allow you to change to original language. Everything is in spanish. (yes I know it is spain, but most hotels permit you to change the language to the original broadcast language, but nope, not here). We went at a time of year where you may need heating, you may need air con. I generally like it cooler at night to sleep. However they turn the air con off at a certain point in the year. I have never heard of a hotel doing this. Especially one which you would expect to be top within the whole area. So, my room was a regular 27c, even with both the tiny windows open. Terrible nights sleep. Even budget hotels with air con/heating allow you at any time of year to have whatever setting you like..... Was there for only two nights. The first morning we went into Jaen for breakfast (about €6 for 2 toast, coffee, juice, right in the centres parking). Second day we decide to try the hotel. Well €12 for a single jamon bocadillo is RIDICULOUS. Did not eat there at all. Far too overpriced. I like paying for good food, I run a bike club where we specifically find good food. But I would never pay €12 for a bocadillo. I will NOT return to this hotel. Anyway, the area. Well this is questionable. As Jaen is the capital city, you would expect beauty, culture and lots to see. Yeah, go somewhere else. It is not a pretty city to visit. And not much to do. The area around the hotel is similar to a south american shanty town, felt a bit dodgy driving through it to get to some fancy hotel. The only good thing about this hotel is that you can walk round the building at night, along a nice little path to the end and voer look the city. But this has nothing to do with staying at the hotel.…
Disappointing Nothing too major but: There is no dedicated place for “free parking”. We were lucky that an employee left when we arrived and gave us here spot but were advice that if we left, say for a diner in town, we better take a taxi cause there is no guarantee that we’ll have a parking spot when we return. The hotel is far from any nearby civilization so, reluctant to move our car, we tried to order something in the cafeteria and asked if we can take it to our room . They instructed us to order and they’ll bring to the room. Everything was few EURO more that room service PLUS 5 € “Delivery to room” (pix). Room: No A/C . It was shut off in the building for the winter... but 1. there are no nets on the porch door (no windows). 2. The all room porches are connected (not safe). 3 plenty of bees outside., sometimes cigarette smoke and smells (from the restaurant I guess - not Necessary bad :-) but smells. is as small as it can gets. Shower stall less than 2.5’ X 2.5’. No coffee/tea. Need effort to lock door from outside (malefaction ). Exit light and sign are in your face when in bed (pix) The stuff kind of doing their job but not overly trying to please …
