It is a pleasant town
Accommodation is clean and provides everything you need, including decent ensuite bathroom, a fridge, and a balcony with a brilliant view of the harbour.
Really good setting surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shops.
Breakfast is excellent and special mention must go to the wonderful Natassa and Katerina, who work incredibly hard to look after guests.
See you next year!
As with last year, I can't praise the place highly enough. It offers everything you need in a great location in the town centre, and for the price we really don't think you could do better.
Special mention must again go to the wonderful Natassa and Katerina (and Victoria!), who do an incredible job, from serving breakfasts to cleaning rooms (and generally going above and beyond). Also to Evangelia on reception, who was just fantastic with our 11-year-old (he's now determined to surprise you with his Greek when we come back!)
The room they gave us was very nice. Psilotavano, on the sea, like all its rooms.
So I go to the reception to inform that we will be staying one night. That's where the joke begins.
1. We were asked to prepay the overnight stay,
2. we were given two pieces of paper to order the breakfast served in the dining room. (don't comment on this. Harsh, not even for the garbage) €7 fee.
3. Until 4 in the afternoon they were working with compressors and cutters. The quiet hours had gone for a walk...
4. Hot water for bathing, there was no shower... When I didn't mention it, they scolded me, telling me that it should be wet with soapy water. I had informed...
and
5. the point of excellence during our stay in Gythio, after 12 midnight there is no one in the hotel. Come in, dogs, grind. To my question, do we need anything in the evening or if something happens? I received the answer to call the person in charge and he will arrange it...we were told this in the evening when we were leaving. Not even in prepayment….
However, they wanted the money for the night's stay before... we don't change our minds from our hotel rooms...
It has many facilities, the swimming pool is great, it has a bar if you want to have a coffee or snack and the restaurant has very nice food.
The stuff at the reception was helpful and kind.
We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast during our stay there.
We were switched to a large room for three after complaining about the size of our original room. Our room (suite?) consisted of a small room with a twin bed which served as a sitting room to the main bedroom with a double bed. That allowed for us to sleep in one room and leave our bags in the other. The beds were extra firm, but not bad. The bath was small until you tried to take a shower - then it became miniscule. The saving grace was the balcony which for our room was double sized and overlooked the main street, the harbor and the Islet of Marathisi. The views were wonderful. And the location allows you to walk anywhere in 5 minutes. There are a couple decent restaurants and cafes in view from your room. The downside of that is that on the weekend there was alot of traffick noise on the street until very late. It is hard to believe that there are that many people in this tiny town until you realize they are all driving past your room!
Having said all that, Gythio is a tiny town and there really are not a lot of choices in the town itself. Looking at a couple of the other places, I think the Aktaion was as good as the others and a decent value at 80 Euros @.
We had a triple room which worked fine for us. It felt a little bit small but the views from shuttered windows made up for that niggle.
The fact that we could sit on the little balcony and watch the sunrise was awesome and it really is a fabulous view.
Parking was okay - the street opposite had plenty of space to park.
Cracking breakfast. And staff are absolutely lovely.
