Great experience the one I had at Zandino’s / Krui Surf Hotel. By the end of the trip I was sure it was my favourite place to stay in Indo, which I have visited 3 times, been in 3 Islands and basically spent 3 months of my life there. Genuine feeling of the local living without losing most of the amenities I wish to have. Food was amazing, surrondings are beautiful, one of the most consistent waves of the area is outfront and there’s also a great slabby left within a short walk. Moto or car to explore the other waves are quite easy to arrange. The owners and the staff are very nice, communicative and seem to really care about you, which is not that common, in my eyes. Obviously recommend.

I stayed there for a couple of days and it was great. It's the best place if you want to get shacked at the Peak just in front of the surf camp. The traditionnal food is good and the bintangs are always cool. What's more the owner of the camp is a great story teller...thanks bro :)

If you're looking for a fantastic host with great local knowledge then look no further. Zane is an amazing guy (he's originally from the US) and will take you under his wing like his own. He's a keen surfer and knows all there is to know. He'll even take you on camping missions up the coast if you ask him nicely! Its a no thrills camp - but the price is a reflection of that. At the same time, the accommodation is pretty new and so the place is clean & simple. The location is spot on & right in the mix of the "town waves" and all within walking distance. The food is local, plentiful & delicious! You cant go wrong...

Me and my friend stayed here for 2 weeks! Didn’t want to leave, awesome accomodation, great daily food, and incredible location, right in front of the peak. Thanks to Zane who was an excellent host, showed us a great time when the surf was on, but kept things fun when it was flat. Accomodation was great, new beds, enclosed mosquito nets, clean baths and showers and amazing food, and the best part... free wifi!!

Would highly recommend!!

I've had a couple of near-death experiences with that western sea so I admire it from a distance... but still Krui and the entire SW Sumatra area is so beautiful and rugged. You are only a short ways from Bukit Barisan National Park, although you have to have a permit to enter it.

The Krui Surf Camp offers an excellent value for money. It's beautiful, woody and very green. The sea roars right up to the front gate practically and it's scary but exciting.

Zane can be overbearing at times (American macho syndrome) and there isn't a lot of privacy (in case you need that) but he is a competent host and skilled surfing guide.

Good sturdy food served three times a day and the small city of Krui is a short bike ride down the highway, so there are eats there as well.

The Wi-Fi at the Surf Camp was iffy when I stayed there, and there are occasional power outages (typical Sumatra problem) but there are several cyber-cafes open nearby where you can hook up your laptop. Note that Indonesia has made huge investments in telecommunications so no matter where you are in the archipelago there is usually a strong, reliable internet connection.

Surfers abound but you don't have to go in the water to have a good time. Very very comfortable stay.

Thanks byron...living in the wilds of Sumatra does tend to make one adapt....the local language is nothing like Java, so what you term american macho was actually me speaking the local dialect, shouting is also necessary when working with chainsaw operators, they never use ear covers and all end up pretty deaf... the electricity in the whole west coast is now through big high voltage towers, substation in Liwa, Wifi is now through a fiber optic network so those issues are resolved...but the reef demons are always waiting for the unwary and they like the taste of human flesh... i tell all the surfers, the more you play, the more you pay...sooner or later you meet the reef, and it is a sharp, craggy one. there are loads of little beachfront cafe now too, lots of coconut water, iced drinks and cold beer, fresh fish on the grill, even a few places serving Indo style pizzas.... hope you make it back soon, we always enjoy having you come. take care, z

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Excellent vibes and in an incredibly beautiful area in Sumatra. I don't surf but there apparently its a world class spot. We walked in looking originally for just coffee but ended up staying for 2 nights, they helped us find a dive school, which was excellent, and even helped us sell our motorcycles that were for sale.
Zane the owner is an interesting man and a great storyteller, really helpful and accomodating to travellers, and is doing a lot to help his community.

Krui should really be on your itinerary of youre in Sumatra, after 14 months working and traveling across Indonesia, it was one of the absolute highlights, and still fairly untouristed, there was plenty of opportunities to socialise with other travellers without it seeming busy. Highly recommended to anyone with even a slim interest in surfing/diving/nature treks.

Epic spot. The host family and staff were lovely and looked after our every need from expert surf info to delicious food. Owners Zane and son Zandino were true hosts and gave us a fantastic experience. We didn't want to leave! Beautiful beach side spot at the waters edge with awesome rooms and surf right out front to make you want to rush right back out after breakfast and lunch for another three hours. A true surfing trip!

Amazing experience staying at the krui surf camp. Location is right opposite some of the best waves in Krui which is ideal to have a morning coffee and watch the surf, or enjoy a beer watching the sunset. Zane and his son Zandino have been very friendly and super helpful in showing us around South Sumatra. Food has been spot on too.... We will be back next year :)
