This review is coming from a corporate travel agent (still working) and from the perspective that I’m here with my husband for a honeymoon getaway.

The resort is truly beautiful. There are some things that do need work, like pool cleanliness and some ground keeper work. For being a resort type property I feel those are key things to keep up on. The rooms are nice and the shutter blinds are beautiful. There is zero cold water available in our bathroom sink or shower. All that comes out of both is super hot water.
The food is very good at the cactus bar and the breakfast at the lobby restaurant was so yummy. Very pricey but at least the quality was good.
Being that this is my honeymoon, my sister wanted to pay for our room charges. Our original island trip had to be cancelled due to covid. As a travel agent for major corporations, third party billing is something that happens all of the time. I send over credit card info for payment of rooms for recruits and other professionals that are paid for by others. Melissa at the front desk refused to allow my sister to pay for our room charges and said that she must be physically present to pay. This is unacceptable when as a travel agent I book Marriott properties all the time and send over payment info when I’m not even the card holder. Why can I do this but she can’t?
If someone calls and wants to pay for something, you take credit card info over the phone all the time. Why she wasn’t allowed to pay is beyond me and frankly rude given this was for a special occasion. You can email the third party billing form as well and she could have sent it right back. This was not even offered.
Oh, also Amazon dropped a package here for me today and I know it was delivered yet I’ve not been contacted by anyone at the front desk to tell me my package is here.
Overall it’s a nice hotel but the lack of customer service and willingness to make a special occasion, truly special, is beyond my vocabulary at this time. We leave tomorrow and it’s probably for the best.

My husband and daughter arrived at the hotel after 18 hours of driving. I had booked the room for them; however had not stayed at this property but it is closer to ASU where my husband will be moving her in. After 2 rooms that were not adequate to stay in I called the front desk and got Shi'loh. I told her that they had already moved twice however, the 2nd room was still not ready for them and I felt bad since I booked it. What could she do? She said I will move them to another room, 1st she said she would check the room to make sure it was in good order, she would have the bell-hop move their stuff and she would even make sure that they had a free breakfast in the morning. She was kind and polite, and was willing to make their experience a good one. I talked to my husband and Shi'loh ended up helping move their stuff -Shi'loh needs to be recognized by her manager- she went above and above. My daughter and husband said Shi'loh was awesome as well.

Stayed there last month for 5 days. Hotel is dated, but functional. Reception is clean and staff were very accomodating...........that is until you get to your room and find out its not done. Bedspreads on floor, curtains closed, bathrooms dirty and towels on floor. OOPS. guess housekeeping forgot to do that room that day. A quick call to front desk/reception and we had another room, but no sorry, no oopsie daisy, just "we'll get you another room." That said, the new room was clean and well appointed, but we were then advised that housekeeping only comes every third day, which means that if you need towels or bath condiments, you're flagging down a housekeeper for those items. Pool area is dated, but functional , but when its 115 degrees F outside, you're willing to overlook a lot of things. Pool bartender was very nice and knowledgeable about the Phoenix area and gave some good tips. The Buttes Restaurant near reception is very nice, but super pricey, something unexpected. A family of three is not getting out of there for less than $200. We ate there once and didn't go back. There is a very small Star Bucks in the "basement" near the other hotel restaurant, but hours are very very limited. Otherwise, a decent hotel for the money and conveniently located about 10 minutes from Sky Harbor airport, a big plus and there was no airplane noise. OH, and if you bring a car or even have a rental, they will charge you to park it there. Biggest Plus: Location. Biggest Minus: Dated and room service/cleaning every three days???

I am a US diplomat returning home to Arizona from Africa for the first time in 18 months. While trying to check in after a 24-hour exhaustive journey, I learned that I would not be able to have my nieces (unregistered guests) use the pool. The pool policy had changed since I last visited the property more than a decade ago. When my father and I asked about different ways to legitimately register them (buy pool passes, use the pool restaurant, register them in my room, buy another room), the night auditor became angry and said that he would not discuss any of these questions because I was arguing with him and because he knew that I was really just trying to get around the rules. He escalated even further and said that I was happy to leave and then after this he told me to leave the hotel. After this kind of encounter, the worst I have ever encountered in a hotel anywhere in the world, I did indeed leave. I am a Marriott Rewards member (having used your properties all over the world) and long-standing supporter of the Marriott Corporation. This experience runs contrary to everything I know Marriott stands for and I am embarrassed that the brand has sunk this low in Phoenix, Arizona.

You get what you pay for! The grounds at The Buttes are so beautiful. The lobby is spectacular and the receptionists were helpful. The valet attendants moved our car and spilled my purse and some other items and were so apologetic… wasn’t even a big deal to me though! We requested an early check in and the room was ready prior to when we asked! We had a preferred room that looked out over the water slide, although it was closed it was still beautiful. The pool was hopping, incredibly busy and it was hard to find some place to place our stuff and a chair to lay on. They don’t really have anyone going around picking up drinks left out and food trays/trash/dirty towels so at the end of the day it looked pretty rough. However the pool area was beautiful with the rocks and waterfalls. The hot tubs are in fun spots! The rooms are alright, outdated and exactly how I remember them 13 years ago. Our shower smelled of sewer when turned on and the drain didn’t function properly so we had a couple inches of water in the shower that stayed for 30 minutes after showering. That was pretty gross. The air kicks on and is nice and cold but when it turns off it is quite the opposite and we were sweating! The room seemed pretty clean. We loved walking over to the top of the rock restaurant. I would recommend making a reservation for a little bit prior to sunset because it’s a great view… and the food was delicious. Overall we had a good rate for the room compared to other nearby resorts that are updated so I think we got what we payed for and we had fun!

We stayed here for a business meeting. The accommodations were decent but, the hotel is old. It the rooms could definitely use some updating. Housekeeping cleans but, in most of the areas you can tell they lack attention to detail. They use an industrial strength cleanee so, it it masks the scent pretty well. I was disappointed that my door didn't close all the way, it had to be slammed shut or it would remain open. The lobby area is really nice. We ate at the Top of the Roof restaurant. It was pretty good. I don't have any major complaints or compliments. I do appreciate the decent stay.

The lobby is quite nice, but a bit loud with the waterfall behind the reservation desk. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but this hotel is not up to the Marriott standards. It is an aging property which could use a major upgrade.
When you pay more than $300 for a room, you expect to have some type of decor in the room. There was nothing on the walls, no additional mirror other than in the bathroom and not even floor molding. The carpet needed cleaning and the bathroom door around the handle needed to be washed. The vanity in the bathroom had no space for the hair dryer storage, so it was kept in the entry door closet. The bathroom had only one light/fan switch, so the fan came on everytime you wanted only the light.
The hotel is not a resort like others in the Phoenix area. It is built along the side of a butte, with views of the city, which would have been nice but all of the rooms are situated on the interstate side. You could hear traffic all the time, even by the pool. As for the rest of the amenities, there are stairs everywhere and it is impossible to stay inside from the long walk between the lobby, restaurant(s) pool and spa. The additional spa outside our wing was nicely situated, up a flight of stairs by a waterfall, but it was closed. The stairs by the pool area were wide with a railing on one side, but the non-slip strip was in the center, so it was impossible to use the handrail and take advantage of the non-slip strip.
The landscaping is a bit too natural. Yes, the cactus and local habitat is nice, but the rodent holes should have been filled in and the dead cactus pads and brush could have been cleaned up.
Don't be surprised with the resort and parking fee, which adds about $75 to the listed room price.

No, I would not stay here again.

From the moment I arrived the staff were outstanding. Check-in was a breeze and the lovely lady that checked me in even called me once I was safely at my room to make sure I was ok and offer me more cold water to ensure I was comfortable. My server at breakfast was similarly attentive, as was the lovely lady who handled my fast and easy check-out.

But all my stars and gratitude have to go to Robert, Gabriel and Daniel who helped me in an hour of panic. After departing on my last day, I realized my watch was missing, I called the hotel and they dispatched housekeeping immediately and conducted a personal search for it. No watch was found. I returned to the hotel in a desperate panic as I knew it was there somewhere. Robert did his best to keep me calm and comfortable, even thought I was very distressed and far from my usual friendly self. He offered me a drink and then escorted me back to my room so I could search it myself. When we got to the room he introduced me to Gabriel, from housekeeping who had been searching with no luck. Gabriel explained this to me patiently and kindly, though again I was so distressed I could barely even respond.

I made one last ditch effort to check the poolside in case I had left it there earlier in the morning. Just as I had resigned myself to the fact it was gone, Robert called me over to the towel station where Daniel was working. Daniel had found my watch. I can't tell you the relief and gratitude I felt.

In all my travels, both personally and professionally (including time spent working in a hotel) I have known of many people losing things in hotel rooms, never to be found again. I personally have lost items that I know categorically were left in the room. This is the ONLY time I have seen this kind of response and outcome from a hotel team, and it was the time I needed it most.

Thank you so much to everyone at this hotel for a wonderful stay, but especially to Robert, Gabriel and Daniel for going above and beyond to assist me and reunite me with my beloved watch. Your professionalism and kindness are top-notch!

I stayed a couple months ago and it was a nightmare experience. Had many issues that left me saying I would never come back. Well work brought me back to Arizona and I thought I would give it another chance. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly by Robert and Brian who welcomed me and helped me with my bags. At check-in I was warmly greeted by Carissa who gave my a complimentary upgrade and called me to make sure I was comfortable in my room. The room itself was cleaned but did have some upkeep issues. The fridge didn't work, I had ants by the window and the WIFI was slow.. When I reported these issues to the manager Elizabeth she went out of her way to not just address the issue but went above and beyond, she checked on me daily during my stay, it was very nice. While I am still disappointed with the room issues, the staff really worked hard to make me happy.. The girls at the Starbucks counter were super friendly and Hiba at the restaurant is fantastic. Really all of the staff was so accommodating. Matt at the desk at night helped me print some documents, the housekeeping staff always said hello when I was walking through the halls. It was a very pleasant stay all around.

If you read my other reviews, you'll see I'm not overly picky. I have to say the setting of the hotel is unique in that you're within the city limits but yet the way the hotel is built into the hillside has you feeling set-apart from the city. They way they utilized the terrain in the layout of the property gives it some uniqueness. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
However, once we got the to room, it felt more like an inexpensive motel room than what I've experienced before at Marriott hotels.
The room looked fatigued and dull. They need to find a way to brighten them up to offset the low ceilings and small size. The hallways were also lackluster.
We were offered a room with a City View but I wish we would have asked for a pool view to avoid the high traffic noise... Not sure if I would stay again. It will depend on if they are having a sale at the time and what else is available.
