Detailed Reviews
Stayed at The Mill as part of a ride on the Otago Rail Trail. The property is amazing and Carmel is a great host and extremely helpful. She did two trips to the local pub to drop us off. Highly recommended if you are riding the trail and make sure you have dinner at the Oturehua pub. Food is amazing

My wife and i stayed with Carmel at The Mill B&B during our Otago rail Trail journey. What a lovely place it was too and just perfect after a good days cycling.
Carmel was a great host and the room we had was ideal. We enjoyed relaxing in the lounge outside our room and walking around the property.
That night after dinner at the local pub, we enjoyed a great nights sleep and an even better breakfast in the morning-a great way to start the day.
The Mill would be the perfect place to spend a few nights so as to be able to explore the local area.

We are on the Otago Rail Trail and Central Cycle booked our accommodation. The Mill is an interesting home with an interesting history but Carmel is the reason for 5 stars. She makes you feel at home and gave us a great insight into living in Central Otago. It's a heritage listed building but very cosy and the cooked breakfast was fabulous. Hayes museum is next door and a lovely cafe.

Warm welcome from Carmel and exquisite venue.
I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in my claw footed bath after a hard day's cycling.
Carmel is the best host I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Relaxed, friendly , knowledgeable and genuine.
Tasty breakfast included.
Only regret is I didn't stay longer.....make sure you stay more than 1 night!

We stayed here two years ago when we did the ORT and so enjoyed it that it was a no-brainer that we stay here again the second time we've done the ORT.
The Mill is just such a gorgeous place, its just that simple. Beautiful accommodation, a lovely hostess and a lovely cooked breakfast to see us on our way.
The beauty and solitude of the garden takes your breath away and sitting out there in the sun in the early morning is truly a salve to the soul!!
I can't recommend this B&B highly enough.

We arrived a little worse for wear after a rainy day on the trail but all was forgotten as soon as we arrived at The Mill. Maureen and Duncan greeted us with a cup of tea, continued the hospitality with drinks before dinner, drove us to the local hotel for dinner via an off-road tour of the countryside, plied us with a huge cooked breakfast the next morning and took us to see their saffron crop before we left on our bikes. They could not have been friendlier and we hope we run into them when they are up our way.

I have stayed at The Mill for 5 nights. Carmel the new owner is a fantastic hostess. The rooms are great. Great location on the Otago Rail Trail. Close to Alexandra and 2 hours from Dunedin and Queenstown. Great for Winter and Summer
breaks. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Best stay. We arrived in heavy rain a bit earlier than we were expected yet our hosts welcomed us in - fire going and sorted our wet clothing. Lovely accommodation. Cup of tea and baking for us. Later they joined us for drinks and nibbles then took us to the tavern for a meal we had pre booked. Beautiful cooked breakfast. We arrived strangers and left friends.

We arrived at The Mill on our second day of the rail trail and found our hosts Duncan and Maureen to be very welcoming and exceptionally friendly. We shared lovely drinks and nibbles and then Duncan gave us the royal tour in his 4WD of the surrounding farmland and then dropped us for dinner at the Oterehua Hotel. The meal was great and Duncan collected us again once we had finished. They gave us a wonderful cooked breakfast the next morning and sent us on our way. Would highly recommend.
