Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently, this hotel is needlessly creating obstacles for visually-impaired guests. Breaking ADA guidelines? The latest 'innovations' are a new door key with uncertain orientation and a notepaper with visually disturbing background design. There is a very small triangle on the key for those with keen visual acuity; it may provide a clue. But the text on the Key is inverted and there is no tactile orientation. Like others, I had to return to the Front Desk to get guidance. I have attached photos of: the new Sleep Inn key, the distracting notepaper; and an example of good design from a different chain (tactile notch marked)

Hotel's Favourite
I was in town during the Spring "high season" and most hotels were super expensive. I selected this property for its reasonable rate and location; and quite frankly, did not have very high expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised and found that the hotel offered good value for the money. The front desk employees were friendly and helpful. Although the hotel is a bit dated, the room and common areas were all clean. The room, while not remarkable, was well laid out. There was a comfortable task chair and large desk, which I appreciated. Complimentary breakfast and the fitness centers were all fine. In sum, everything worked well.

This is a mid-priced hotel in busy north Scottsdale. The rooms are a little tired but everything functioned as it should and the service was top notch. A decent comp breakfast. Nothing fancy here and there is a nice Hampton Inn right next door. but if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel that meets all expectations, this would not be a bad choice.

The gentleman who checked us in was cordial and accommodating. I was there for surgery, and they allowed my husband a late checkout. The room was small but nicely decorated. Everything was clean, and the towels were fresh and smelled really good. The walk-in shower was a bit dated but worked fine. The beds were too squishy for our tastes but were overall comfortable. The heater worked well and was quite a bit quieter than most hotel heaters. The WiFi works pretty good. Oddly, Verizon coverage was weak at 4g 1-2 bars. There is a limited breakfast, and it goes fast. It was quiet since the hotel is back off main road a little. We would stay here again.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 10 years when we have surgeries at Mayo and have to stay overnight. The latest two visits were very disappointing. We stayed here two weeks ago and had a room next to the exit door. The door opened and closed at least 20 times at all hours, especially from 3-5 am. Since we had to stay 2 nights, I asked for another room away from the door. The manager said they had a policy not to change rooms after one night and gave me earplugs. This visit I called a week ahead and requested a quiet room away from exit doors. We were given a room over the front parking lot where 20 plus motorcycles were parked and revved up loud motors at all hours. Yes, it’s Bike Week! Why couldn’t the management have planned to put all the motorcyclists in the rooms over their motorcycles and other guests on the back side? No, wouldn’t change our room. This time no earplugs were available. We won’t take a chance again. Will find a new place near Mayo to stay.

I'm sorry to hear of your disappointing stay. Thank you for sharing your experience. We will review your comments with our team and identify areas of opportunity on how we could have work through your requests to come to a more appropriate resolution. We do put a lot of thought into placing guests in ideal locations within the hotel. Also, trying to meet the many guest requests. I'm sorry we were not able to provide that during your recent visits. We appreciate your business over the years and hope you'll allow us another opportunity to provide lodging services in the future.

I stayed at this hotel because I was trying to save a little money on a BIG trip. That was a BIG mistake. I'll start with the good though. The temporary front desk person brought in from New York exceeded my expectations which is why I give this hotel 1-star, he was the star of my stay. But it does make you wonder why they had to bring someone in from that far away! Now for the bad. Breakfast was, to be honest, weak! A bagged breakfast with a bad selection probably due more to staff shortage or trying to save on costs rather than Covid-19 protocol (more on that later). The shower temperature was way too low, the pressure average for a hotel (which is also too low). The BIGgest problem was that there were papers taped at various places around the property stating that if housekeeping services were required then all the guests need to do was request them. We requested housekeeping 1) when making the reservation as a special request, 2) at checking and 3) the morning after the first night we stayed. So we complied with all of their directives. HOWEVER, after returning for the evening although the towels were changed and the room (partially) vacuumed we noticed that the linens weren't change even though we SPECIFICALLY requested that they be changed. We know this because of a test we sometimes do at certain hotels by marking the sheets. We found the marks in the same position on the bed before and after "housekeeping service". It may be a small issue but it REALLY makes you wonder what other Covid-19 cleaning protocols Sleep Inn at North Scottsdale Road were NOT following. It probably goes without saying that we will not be returning to a Sleep Inn hotel, we will just increase our accommodations budget! By the way when telling a relative this story, we were told, "Oh I could have told you, NEVER stay at a Sleep Inn!". I wish I had talked to that relative earlier!

I'm sorry to see of the issues you experienced during your time at our hotel. It was a tough time for the hotel, though I'm pleased to share that we have made improvements since then. With more improvement being made each week and month. We have since re-opened the hot buffet breakfast. We've also removed the various "papers" and incorporated more appropriate messaging on hotel services. In addition, to setting up a thorough process in which services are requested, provided, and followed up on to ensure guest satisfaction. I understand your frustration, and want to share with you the hotel has taken action to improve upon our need areas.

Great location at Scottsdale Road and Bell. Shopping center closeby. Disappointed the hotel was still serving breakfast in a bag, so no hot breakfast items, to eat in or to take out. A morning newspaper would have been nice. Very friendly staff. Clean room.

Sandra, who works at the front desk, helped me with my dilemma. I had an early appointment the next day, which might have run over the normal check out time of 12:00. I explain my situation and just as I was finishing she said “You want to move your check out time? Maybe one?” I was surprised how quickly she handled my problem. Her thoughtfulness did not stop at that one exchange. The next morning I was waiting for the shuttle, which was to arrive at 07:00. She noticed it was 06:50 and the driver was not there. Without me mentioning anything, she called to make sure the driver was on the way. He arrived soon there after. I greatly appreciate her professionalism. Of course, I will stay there again. That stay was my fourth and am always impressed. Sandra was a great help during a stressful time.

Just what we needed! This hotel is probably not meant or a long vacation - it’s meant for a place to sleep. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. Beds were comfy and cozy. Only thing missing was USB ports, which should be standard these days. But no complaints otherwise!
