July 2006 I'd stayed at Passefika Inn at $65 (unclean, noisy, old) and in October at Outrigger at $55 (noisy, further from town, no ensuite).
This is much better value and a much better Samoan "experience" than the bigger hotels.
Standard furnishings but clean and in good condition. Clean showers :)
Food was the highlight - good quality food, generous portions and cheap. Try the Bbq for 12 tala. Breakfast is also great, including omelette with toast, array of fruits and smoothies
Next morning, I inspected the room I had originally booked and nearly fell over. Besides a bed, the room did not offer any facilites such as a shelf or a wardrobe. It was opposite and very close to the kitchen with the garbage disposal on the other side (devided by a trellis). It was overpriced and unaccaptable to me. I asked for the manager and negotiated - mentioning the night without sleep, having been moved, and the slightly misleading information I had received about the initially booked room. After an agreement about room use and rate an unpleasant episode of encounters with the receptionist re. the room rate, availability of an upgraded room, payment etc. started. This lasted over more than 2 days in which my room was not once cleaned. I then decided to move. The manager attempted to some damage repair by offering me a room for reduced rate. The receptionist was present and both apologized. I agreed to stay. A few minutes later, the receptionist sat - uninvited - on my porch to tell me about sexual adventures he had in that room - which I occupied - with another guest. I left the next day to Le Alaimoana, which was professionally run by the most lovely people with a wellcoming and caring attitude. A hotel guest there told me that her friend , too, had moved from hte Eden's Edge because she felt unsafe there.
The people at Le Alaimoana, run and owned by Mara, and the friendly Samoans elsewhere made up for my initial unfortunate experience!
I'd like to make a special acknowledgement to the owner and staff of Eden's Edge Hotel, thank you Andy for running such a magnificent hotel, thank you Palota for making me feel at home you're the greatest, and to Toese, Loreta and Fu'a thanks for a job well done.
Difinitely recommend Eden's Edge Hotel to all traveler's to Samoa.
Cheers
Lina:-)
