Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had booked to stay in Aggie Grey’s Sheraton. Fortunately, I re-read the reviews a few days prior to arrival and saw they were in the midst of remodeling and guests faced problems despite sky high prices. That left me scrambling to find alternative accommodation.

I was super lucky to get into the Lava Hotel for two nights as everything in Apia was full due to NZ school holidays and a church conference.

The Lava represents excellent quality to price, especially for Samoa.

Rooms are clean, modern and well maintained. Free WIFI which is reasonably fast is a bonus as most hotels in Samoa charge for this or don’t have WIFI at all.

The breakfast buffet included in the room rate is comprehensive offering both cooked and continental options.

The staff are terrific. This hotel is beautifully managed.

Booking a superior room away from the pool is best. Bring earplugs because in windy days, you can hear the wind howl through the rooms.

What a top spot! Our fish (tuna) and chips were fantastic, so good that we went back three times, and had fish and chips every time. The servings are generous and very reasonably priced.

The casual dining area faces the garden and swimming pool, the beers are cold (no draught though), the background music is unobtrusive and it's fan cooled. A very pleasant place to relax and wile away a couple of hours.

We did book for their Thursday night Fiafia which at the time, wasn't confirmed. We left our contacting details, nothing heard, but when we went out for dinner that night, it was in full force. How disappointing as we've now missed the opportunity to experience a fiafia.

Check in was straight forward, reception staff very helpful. We were a group of 6 adults, our rooms were spread out over 3 floors. The lift was out of service for the 4 days we were there, only a mild inconvenience.
Our rooms were comfortable and well maintained, they were big enough for solo guests. Staff very attentive. We found checking our room accounts on a daily basis allowed us to check and query for any unusual charges. Some of the service staff weren’t fully trained with billing processes hence the reason for checking room accounts. Food in restaurant was very good sized portions. Complimentary breakfast menu was limited but the portions served was ample. Ground floor rooms were close to bar and restaurant, if you want a quieter experience, try and get a room on upper floors. I didn’t mind my ground floor room. I was usually in the bar/restaurant until closing so it was fine.

Wonderful staff. They make you feel at home at lava hotel.. With their generous hospitality they make you feel so special. They serve good food. Try their sizzling steak at their 1905 eatery, and wash it down with some taula beer. Look up David Sanerivi for a tour of a life around samoa apia.

The moment we arrived to when we checked out, Lava Hotel definitely exceeded all my expectations. Equipped with everything you need to make your stay easy - from with the friendliest staff to the yummy selection of food - not to mention the 24 hour room service for those midnight snacks. Located across from the seawall so we always got the cool sea breeze, and conveniently located, only a 5 min walk to the local shops and 7 min walk to the Fugalei Markets. I would definitely stay here again

Comfortable Hotel at good location close to downtown Apia. The hotel offers all amenities including fast WIFI, friendly service and good food. The staff is very friendly and helps where it can. The hotel has a shuttle to the airport at 55 Tala and all drinks at the bar are affordable.

The service from when we arrived was amazing right through to the end of our stay the team at Lava were very accommodating and catered to anything we needed. Rooms were a good size as most of our time was spent out by the spacious pool and and in the restaurant area. Room service was also always available and we were lucky to have a room for our team to use for team meetings aswell. Will definately be back there!

Thank you for accommodating everything about my stay. I initially missed the check in date due to being stuck in Savaii and the bad weather conditions out there. But they managed to give it to me still since it was prepaid months in advance. Loved the atmosphere, the hotel is very clean, intimate and staff very friendly. One thing that needs improvement just like everywhere else on island is customer service. I was able to attend their buffet/entertainment night and the servers don’t look out to customers who need refills or services. I’ve noticed how a lot of guests had to hand wave down the servers. But overall experience was great!

We stayed here in August and were overcharged by $520 nzd. We have been given the run around for over a month now. I’d appreciate a reply as this is ridiculous. We have provided bank account details more than once as requested and still nothing.

best hotel we stayed in Apia!! The service was excellent! We got to meet & know the staff, management and reception. The service here is more than just a meet and greet, it’s actually taking time to make guest feel welcome. It’s services like this most hotels don’t have. I highly recommend this hotel especially for first time traveler’s. Got to meet one of the owners, came out and meet the guests and offered drinks, this is the BEST HOTEL in Apia!!!
