I stayed 7 nights at Karl's Getaway Hotel where I was treated like family by the staff who helped me with anything I needed. Back packer type accommodation with kitchen to prepare own meals if you wish. Breakfast provided, cooked eggs daily, toast/spreads, tropical fruits, tea/coffee served in the common room dining area. I travelled with friends who booked later than me but stayed elsewere as Karl's was fully booked. My room was clean and comfortable with air con. A Touch of Samoa massage shop is next door and a cafe, a convenience store and medical centre in walking distance close by. It was hard to say goodbye with promises of returning one day, a promise I hope to keep. Heart felt thanks to everyone for making my stay so special. Robyn Wallace

I have rated Karls 4 stars based in it being a bed and breakfast, I would give it a 2 star if I was rating it as a hotel. The earlier reviews here all seem to be for Lynns Getaway (just up the road) rather than Karls. Liked · This was a good location and the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. It is a very quiet, family run, bed and breakfast with a lovely pool. The breakfast, which is not normally served at Karls, but up the road at Lynns Getaway instead, was excellent with different offerings every day. Fata and Jean couldn't have been more helpful with making sure our second room had good access for my mother with mobility issues. They arranged a private full day taxi hire for us with a great guy, and they took obvious pride in ensuring we enjoyed breakfast. Disliked · Karls Getaway is not actually a hotel, it is a bed and breakfast place currently being upgraded by the friendly handyman. The rooms are like a backpackers room with it's own bathroom. Some rooms are much better than the others. There is no reception, taxis struggle to find the place as it does not have a sign and the rooms don't have a tv or a hairdryer. There is a kettle in each room, but you might have to fill it from the bathroom sink. If you are booking it expecting a backpacker or bed and breakfast experience it's great, if your expecting a hotel you might be very disappointed. We were offered the chance to move to Lynns Getaway which is a real hotel, but we stayed on at Karls as it was quiet and Fata and Jean were so nice.

I stayed at the partner location - Lynn's for 2 weeks while visiting and working at the local hospital. Coming from the U.S. solo I was a bit intimidated with travelling this far by myself. My stay was excellent and I would definitely stay there again. The most valuable part of Lynn's was all of the guidance from the staff and most of all her son (Karl). He made sure every guest got to see as much of Samoa as they could and without Karl I would not have learned any of the history or seen many of the sights I was able to. He took us hiking, snorkling, waterfall jumping and lounging at the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. His tips to stay safe and get the most out of my two weeks were much appreciated. Lynn even took us to a beautiful Catholic church on Sunday (only if interested of course). Pick up and drop off at the airport by Karl was reliable. When the internet wasn't working Karl went out of his way to let me use his hotspot. The food was wonderful, especially the pancakes (best I've ever had) and there is a shop next door and multiple good restaurants (check out Scalini's) within walking distance. There was an affordable gym within walking distance with spin bikes looking at the ocean and mountains. Have found myself wanting to back to Samoa very frequently since returning to the U.S.

I had an amazing time while staying at Lynn’s! I staid for 2 months while doing a Medical Elective at the hospital nearby and Lynn and her staff made sure that I had the best possible experience. Everyone is extremely nice and they provide a great service with included breakfast (the pancakes are amazing!), optional dinners and organize trips to all the known sights and beaches. Hopefully I can come back soon!

Stayed on the recommendation of a friend who stayed at Lynn's for as a medical student elective. Looking back I could not have chosen a better place to stay and my experience in Samoa would not have been the same if I had stayed elsewhere. Perfect distance for medical professionals working at the hospital. Room comes with hot water and air con. In the event of any (rare) concern or query, Karl is always on hand. Food at Lynn's was even better than some of the island night buffets. Perfect for a solo traveller looking to make friends to explore with! Staying here seriously took the hassle out of renting a car and a trip to Savai'i. Karl is able to answer any questions and let you know where to find the best events on the island. There is a pool, lounging space, and walking distance to Lynn's supermarket which seems to stock everything and open on Sundays. Thank you for the great stay

I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay for the 3 weeks I spent in Apia. I initially chose Lynn's due to its proximity to the hospital and affordable prices (making it perfect for medical students). However, I soon realised that Lynn's had much more to offer - all the staff were extremely friendly, there was an on-site supermarket, and we had the luxury of being cooked a delicious breakfast every morning. There are many great spaces for socialising (the pool, the lounge area and restaurant) and with a constant flurry of guests coming and going, I made a lot of new friends. Yet for me, the highlights of my stay were the trips Karl would organise for us. He took us to many sites around Upolu and also to Savai'i and Namua - from jumping in waterfalls, swimming with turtles and hiking up hills to lazing around the sandy beaches, we really covered it all! I would definitely recommend staying at Karl's/Lynn's getaway if you get the chance to visit Apia!

I stayed at Lynns for a month with a friend. Karl arranged several trips for us round Upolu, Savai’i and Namua island. They were great fun and very flexible, and gave us fresh coconuts for any long drives. Would highly recommend!

We were staying at Karl‘s Getaway for 2 months and had a great time there. We worked at the hospital and the getaway was in walking distance. Karl and the staff were very friendly, extremely helpful with anything we needed. The main area has plenty of space to relax and socialize, the pool is also great. Karl offers amazing tours to different places around the islands, which we loved. We‘ve met so many great people during our stay and the tours, we definitely recommend it and would come back anytime.

Lynns Getaway is a lovely place to stay and a great price. The staff there really make you feel at home and it became my home away from home for 8 weeks. I travelled alone and stayed there as it was close to the hospital (I had a placement at the hospital). It was a great location and a half an hour walk, or short taxi, into town. They also had their own shop next door which had competetive prices and was open on a Sunday when most other places werent. Breakfast at Lynn's was handmade every morning and the cooking was amazing! The staff at Lynn's were very knowledgable and helped you out for places to go and visit. They also ran their own tours which were the best price we could find and tailored to what kind of experience you wanted. I highly recommend lynns getaway as a place to stay for anyone visiting Samoa and wanting to experience the real Samoa!

This place is truly an awesome place. This place has a big seating area where you can relax on comfortable couches, play table tennis and socialise. The hotel has really nice rooms that give you good privacy and the beds are really comfortable. The pool is also amazing. The pool has a deep end an a kids end (shallow end). It is really good for toddlers and children to play in or for adults if they want kick back and read a book or drink a coconut. The pool area also has chairs where you can lie down on and relax. I could not recommend this place more. Plus Karl is a deadset legend. Awesome place and awesome people.
