Tanoa is located smack bang right in the middle of town, a great location if you're the type to wanna go into town to see what other things Apia has to offer.
Tanoa is close to many restaurants, stores, the market, banks and cafes. & even if you're not a guest here, the buffet breakfast is priced at a small 35TALA (kids half price), which was honestly worth it with the wide range of breakfast food they have both savoury and sweet, I had a beautiful breakfast with a view of the pool, sun rising behind the hotel.
Tanoa offers a dinner buffet only on Wednesday with the fiafia / Siva afi (fire dance) night. Which was kind of disappointing because it's the only kinda entertainment they offer, other than the live music on Friday that they had but it was kind of off putting because they had the live music right next to the tv playing the NRL game, AT THE BAR, so it was like live music + the sound of kiwis screaming at the warriors game. Not my kind of scene but I digress.
The actual dinner menu at Tanoa is the same as the lunch menu. It's pretty limited in my eyes, kinda got bored of the food honestly. Pizzas, burgers, chicken and chips etc. But their waiting time for food was extremely short, they're very fast with their cooking time which was amazing. Even room service was swift. Then again there's other restaurants around the hotel if you're the type to explore options, so I can't complain.
In conclusion, my stay was sound. Just wasn't much to do or see there. Nonetheless it was relaxing, and for a reasonable price.

Talofa Lava Seranise W, Glad to read about your Tanoa Experience. In was great reading your feedback. Thank you for your suggestions as well. In terms of entertainment, yes we have Fiafia every Wednesday and live bands every Friday and Sunday as well. I guess the team was trying to accommodate guest request to watch NRL but understand your concern as well. We do have a All Day Menu and daily specials, and currently team is relooking at revamping our menu. Hopefully in your next stay you will see some changes. And we thank you for taking your time in providing a wonderful feedback. We look forward to welcoming you on your next trip. Fa'afetai

The hotel is walking distance to the bus terminal, foreshore and CBD. It offers ground floor rooms with a patio or upstairs with a balcony. We stayed in room 323, which was centrally located in the resort and just a 1-2 minute walk to the restaurant, pool, bar, gym, reception and car park.
The bedroom was large with two comfortable double beds, and a large smart TV. The patio with chairs and table backed on to a grassed area and garden. The bathroom was large with a walk-in shower.
The hotel offers free WiFi but you have to sign-in every day and it's fully accessible for wheelchairs. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a tour booking office and the reception is open 24/7. There's also a self-service laundry. They have a FiaFia (local dancing) every Wednesday and live music on Friday and Sunday nights.

Tanoa Tusitala is located not far from the centre of Apia town. You can walk to the bus stand and all the shops from here.
We stayed for 11 nights and the place did not disappoint. There are two restaurants at the property and you can walk to the nearby places to try a bite elsewhere.
The lunch and dinner menu is pretty standard with daily specials - Chicken spring rolls and the mushroom gnocchi were quite good!
The hotel has a nice pool and while walking to breakfast you can witness it being cleaned daily. All staff are friendly and helpful. We appreciated our housekeeping ladies during our stay adjusting to our requests especially if I had a zoom meeting.
The Janets store and the Discovery Rentals office located at reception cater to several tourist needs.
All in all it was a good stay for us!

I must say it's a bit disappointing. It is well located, and a few minutes walking distance to town (which is what we wanted). We had originally booked Aggie Greys our booking was subsequently cancelled as it's undergoing renovation.
We arrived at the Tanoa well before check in (our faytime flight was rescheduled as an overnighter, so out of our control) and there were apparently no rooms ready. We did get into our room at 1030, showered and went to bed as we had been awake 26 hours at that point. About two hours later, a housekeeping guy tried to barge into our room even though the DO NOT DISTURB sign was on the door (go figure). Thankfully the inside lock had been engaged.
The rooms are spacious, quiet (we were upstairs, highly recommended), the beds are comfortable and it's clean. There is a bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, large TV (with CNN, BBC etc). The pool is quite small, and warm.
Breakfast is included but it's VERY ordinary - the same stuff everyday - baked beans, fried rice, porridge or kokorice (yuk), "grilled" veges swimming in oil, tinned little sausages, tinned sliced mushrooms or an omelette. The frittata is a rubbery spongy concoction and not very appetising. There are also cornflakes, some salad items, pineapple pieces, papaya pieces and small bananas. The banana cake and "brownies " (read cake) are the same every day too, and not nice at all.
We didn't bother to eat lunch or dinner there, not much on the menu compared to several places within easy walking distance (Lava, Amanaki and more).
We reported an issue with our aircon at 9.30am one morning, it still wasn't fixed by 6.30pm that night, and our room hadn't been serviced that day either. We expressed our disappointment to the Duty Manager prior to going out for dinner, and it was rectified by the time we returned. Well, almost. The flashing alarm light on our aircon had simply been covered with blu tac and housekeeping had forgotten to leave our water so we had to contact reception again.
Would we stay here again? No, there are other places like Lava or Taumasena that are close enough to town, if that's your preference.

Talofa Lava SteveandDD, Thank you for taking your time in providing your feedback in this platform. In terms of early check in, as our standard check in time is at 2pm and early check in will depend on availability, we encourage guest to pre-reg the booking. That is book from the previous day so room is available for early check. But glad to know the team was able to check you in early at 10.30am. But our sincere apologies for the disturbance from housekeeping team. Will address this with the Team. Our breakfast spread has been been changed and includes items that are readily availably in Samoa and includes local dish like kokorice. Kindly note we do not use tinned little sausages but rather pre packed breakfast sausages. Which is quite disappointing to know that you did not enjoy the breakfast. Yes we do have limited options in our menu bit we do have daily specials. Our sincere apologies for AC complain not being attended to in a timely manner and you had to do a follow up and also for bottle water not being placed. We believe in continuous improvements and we appreciate your feedback, we will address this with our team. Once again thank you for your feedback. Fa'afetai Team Tanoa Tusitala

The staff were excellent and friendly nothing was to much trouble. Rooms were tired and the room service (cleaning & replacing towels) left a lot to be desired. Breakfast and dinner menus were very underwhelming with not a lot of choice.

In 2023, I travelled to Upolu and lodged at Tanoa Tusitala. While the staff exhibited exceptional hospitality, I observed that the overall cleanliness of the establishment did not meet the expected standards. Despite bringing it up with the reception staff I just felt like I was being micro-managed but nothing was getting done. I made a complaint about finding cockroaches in the kettle and requested a new one. However, it seemed like they only removed the cockroaches and didn't replace the kettle, as there was still residue left inside. I also asked them to wipe down the surfaces because I noticed they have daily cleaning, but nothing was ever cleaned. They assured me that the surfaces had been cleaned, but I still found crumbs on the tables and cabinets. I feel I didn't ask for too much just a clean place to stay but they couldn't even give me the bare minimum. However every time i brought this up with the reception staff, I was micro-managed and told that they would be on top of it. If you want to stay at a place where you could be sleeping with insects, this is the perfect place for you. This will be my first and last time staying at this establishment.

Very bad customer service I would suggest you do not go to this hotel, I wish i had not booked and now I am trapped.
I need to do some work and booked because it said free wifi. It was a no cancel one, turns out the wifi is crap and then they say you have to pay for the better wifi, when the room rate is already high. PLUS you have to log on each time AND you have are only allowed two devices, but they do not tell you that in the listing.
So I asked to cancel one of the dates and am refused, and am told no, i will be charged the full rate. This is appallingly customer service and lied / misleading in the listing (via hotels.com who are also useless and do nothing.) What a terrible greedy hotel.
Never go to a hotel that treats a customer so badly. It actually sums up Samoa and how people are unfriendly, unhelpful and try to exploit you. I will not be coming back.
There are much better places in Samoa or out of Samoa, go to where they treat customers decently, and its not here.
Greedy, mean and awful customer service and this is booking and communication time.

Talofa Lava, It is with regret I read your review posted on 22nd of March. First and foremost, I am disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay as here at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel the principal of customer care to our guests is always our priority. For wifi, the setup is made for daily sign up. As it is complimentary wifi the speed is limited thus if you wish to upgrade to a faster plan than you would need to purchase the $8.00 plan. Thank you for your suggestion, we are venturing into changing the maximum device from 2 to 4. As your booking was through a 3rd party website, we adhere to the cancellation policy in placed by them. We would recommend for your next stay to book directly with us for flexibility. As mentioned earlier customer care to our guests is always our priority and we do apologies if we were not able to deliver it during your stay. We thank you for taking your time in providing us with feedback on your stay. Fa’afetai

Well located near the city center, this hotel is very correct. The street side rooms are very noisy and you can hear too much outside noise. Prefer the garden side. The air conditioning blows towards the bed, not great for colds. Cleanliness is good. The breakfast offer is superior to what can be found in other hotels in Samoa. On the other hand, in the restaurant the waiter allows himself very intense expressions of surprise if you don't order drinks. Perhaps there are reasons that he is unaware of and which above all do not concern him. And so the good and the less good on the service side. Washing machine available, but the laundry drawer could really do with cleaning.

Located in a green setting, the hotel has everything it needs if it is well maintained with up-to-date services. Who says trees and greenery means important maintenance and unfortunately that leaves something to be desired. The breakfast could not be more frugal with an extremely limited choice. The restaurant unfortunately does not raise the bill. The bedroom on the first floor is large and bright but here too the care taken in cleaning can be improved.

The staff were very pleasant. The rooms were large and clean with a very large comfortable bed. We stayed in a corner room with a large balcony overlooking the lovely gardens. The air con was turned on and the room was lovely and cool when we got there on a very hot day. Breakfast was great with an egg station to have eggs cooked as you liked. Very close to town and nearby the local markets. There are some lovely restaurants nearby in Apia. There was some confusion as the hotel messaged us about an hour before check in to state that they had overbooked, and would be moving us to a different hotel. When I enquired they admitted the other hotel did not have balcony rooms like we had paid for and booked. They then messaged to state someone else had cancelled and they would honour our booking. The room also did not get serviced until 5pm in the day due to being busy and they only changed the towels and emptied the bin, didn't make the bed or clean the bathroom at all. The hotel was fully booked for functions so the pool area was absolutely packed so we didn't bother to use it.

Palolo Deep Marine reserve is a half an hour walk or 5 minute taxi ride. I recommend taking your own snorkel gear though as they have limited options to hire.

I've used Talofa car rentals twice now, enquire at Talofa Inn in Apia, just up the road from McDonalds. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. Make sure you take detailed photos of the car before and after. Samoan drivers licence is STA $21, which they will sort for you also. They also arranged our ferry crossing to Savai'i
