Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed 5 nights, arriving by taxi from the APW Airport before 5PM. Note; a pre scheduled shuttle is available at 26 WS tala.
We were greeted by our hostess who verified our names/prepayment and provided the room key, 2 bottles of cold water and a small carton of milk for coffee or tea. She referred all questions of car rental to searching various Apia providers and offered a free sim card in absence of wifi.
Upper floor room #8 was tiled with a queen bed, new refer, desk with hot pot & coffee, then TV with 8 channels(most religious supporting Australia/NZ news). The tile bathroom had a new sink and toilet, a large walk-in shower without a curtain, small bars of soap and quick hot water. The AC was cool and quiet, adjusted with a remote control.
A sliding glass door opened to a balcony with table/chairs and a beautiful view over the garden pool and the busy Lalovaga Avenue to the homes perched on Mt. Vaea.
The 7:30AM breakfast included fresh fruit, lemonade, pancakes, cooked eggs, toast with peanut butter/jam, regular coffee and sporadic pastry.
The quiet host tended the office, maintained the clean pool, gave us new bulbs for our bedlamps and rented room routers.
We appreciated the hotel’s adult atmosphere with the ‘no children’ policy.
We walked 100m west to the modest Foodlands/Alan’s supermarkets, 1 km north to central Apia’s cathedral/American Library, over to ENT cafe/car rental and the nearby produce market.

My partner was a Peace Corps volunteer in Apia in the early 70s and always wanted to go back for a visit so we finally managed the trip this year. She reserved a variety of lodgings on both islands, Upolu and Savaii, for us to stay at over our three week stay and Vaea Hotel in Apia was a perfect beginning to our Return to Samoa. The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood behind an unassuming gate. I still remember the effect of walking through that gate the first time and seeing the garden and the pool and the beautiful surroundings. It felt like a sanctuary. Lupe, Dean and their son Shane were wonderful hosts and Lupe in particular prepared lovely breakfasts often with a traditional Samoan dish to accompany the freshly made eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit, coffee and other goodies. The rooms are spare but complete with everything you need. Each one looks out over the garden and pool and the birds wake you in the mornings with their singing. One tip: ask Lupe for recommendations for cafes and restaurants since there isn't much to eat within close proximity to the hotel. If you want to stay in town (rather than up on the hill), then don't hesitate to choose Vaea Hotel on Togafu'afu'a Road.

We had a lovely stay at Vaea Hotel. It was a walkable distance to the city, but far enough away that it wasn’t noisy.
Loved the pool and tropical garden.
Air conditioned room and very nice hosts.
We really enjoyed the free breakfasts: eggs, toast, pancakes, fruit - delish

We were arrived about 7pm on Saturday night and the "pick Van" let us Waite for an hour and by the speed limit of 40 km it were already 9 o clock. and we were hungry. Lucky for us Lupe the manger rang the only restaurant open and drove us there ( Pizza) the hotel is ok but that's all. The breakfast was Not something to write home about. Just white bread bread, butter and jam except we were getting fried eggs - the only of 4 hotel that gave us eggs without charge. When we us to come down about 08 o ' Clock the eggs were very cold. the pool were fine, but there were no internet at all. We liked Lupe.

You can really see the love that has gone into creating this fabulous boutique hotel. Lupe and Dean are kind and welcoming hosts and we had some great chats with them looking out over the beautifully lit garden. The room was very comfortable and we fully enjoyed some afternoon dips in the pool. This will be our go-to spot if we stay in Apia again. We think it’s far more enjoyable than the big resorts where you’ll never get the personal attention to detail that you’ll find at Vaea Hotel. Excellent value and an unforgettable stay.

If you're looking for privacy with a homey feel then Vaea Hotel is ideal. We had a decent size room, bed is comfortable, fully aircon, clean with a great patio looking out to Mt Vaea. We were offered bottles of water on arrival and that was such a warm welcome on a hot afternoon. Owners, Dean & Lupe are fantastic hosts and very accomodating from the day we arrived. Both had good knowledge of places to see and where to go for great food. We hired a car and parking was never a problem at the property. We really enjoyed great breakfast and smell of local coffee in the morning ending with evening of cocktails. Try out their magaritas! Although there is no restaurant on site, there are plenty of restaurants and off road BBQ nearby. Just down the road is the anazing Coffee Roaster, check it out! Sadly we didn't get to try the swimming pool as we were too busy but we had a great time sitting near the pool admiring the spectacular garden. Vaea hotel is in a great location and only a short walk to Apia (5mins). Already our favourite. Vaea Hotel is a perfect choice for accommodation if you want a private, charming and a very clean hotel with accommodating staff. Excellent hosts, highly recommended. Thank you Dean & Lupe and we'll see you again!!!

I recently stayed at the Vaea Hotel as a solo traveller - what a great spot! It's a very friendly family-run motel, tucked into a garden on the edge of central Apia. The rooms are clean and spacious, with large comfortable beds, a small fridge, kettle, TV, air-con and a balcony perfect for sitting out. The owners, Dean and Lupe, and their family are incredibly friendly and hospitable and really made my stay in Samoa. They suggested places to go in Apia, gave me a hand navigating the slapdash bus system, and of course mix the best margaritas in town.
In terms of getting around, I mostly walked everywhere - the Hotel is about 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Apia - but there's a cab stand just down the road as well. Trips within Apia generally only cost about 4 tala so they're a good alternative to going on foot.
I'd highly recommend the Vaea Hotel to anyone and would love to return myself. Fa'afetai - thanks for a wonderful stay!

We have just spent some time with Dean and Lupe and the family. We spent 8 days after being in an upmarket hotel that was quite satisfactory and well serviced, but you were just one of the crowd. It had no atmosphere or warmth. Not so the Vaea, from the moment we arrived we were treated like long lost family, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms on the 1st floor were excellent, cool, so clean, well appointed, and the view of Mt. Vaea was great. On our arrival we were invited to help celebrate Lupe's birthday with them at a Siva Siva night. We had a great time, and enjoyed watching Aisha take part in the siva. Our heads weren't that well next day!
After a trip to Savaii for 4 days it was like coming back home to come back to the Vaea for a few more nights.
We Have no qualms in fully reccommending the Vaea to anyone who wants really good, cean, comfortable digs in Apia to anyone who wishes to get away from the upmarket razzamatzz "resort " type stuff and stay where you are treated like part of the family.
Dean"s Bora Bora bar served up probably the coldest Vailima stubbies going and Faye said that the Margeritas were "something else".
Thanks to the Johnston family our trip to Apia was most comfortable and rest assured we will be back.
Fa'fetai tele lava.

I originally booked with two other major hotels on the beach front, not for the view, but was recommended by our agent in Samoa, but was full as I travelled during the Oceania games, so googled hotels in Apia by reviews and found Vaea Hotel. So glad I chose this place, easy walking distance to local shops, easy 1 minute drive to city or 10minute walk. Service was excellent and Dean and his children went that extra mile to make sure I was comfortable and found my way around Apia ok, knowing I was there for the first time and on business. The breakfasts were just like home, I'm a kiwi! Fresh bread and eggs, with the optional marmite, jam etc and due to my religion I do not drink tea or coffee, so they brang up to my room, the local samoan cocoa, yum! Hows that for hospitality!!! Awesome. The hotel is tidy, rooms air conditioned, clean and modern! Didnt get a beach front view but the view was still beautiful of the mountains. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, business or holiday. It is simple but modern, fridge has nothing in it, but I wasnt fussed, I got my own food to put in it. Definitely prefer being on 1st floor not on the ground when it rained. I'm returning for business again, definitely staying there again. The ground is also secure. Taxi stand right outside across the road if you didnt get a car like I did. A+++++ Vaea Hotel. Thank you for having me! See you soon! Elly

Arrived on Sunday early (about 8.00AM) allowed to leave our bags there while we went on a fishing trip. Dean & Lupe were absolutely stunning in their ability to turn everything you wanted to do easily into reality. Knowledge is king and this was available in abundance. Rooms were simple but spotlessly clean and all staff were helpful and polite. First but definitely not the last visit planned.
