Va-i-Moana Seaside Lodge is commended for its pristine cleanliness and scenic views, despite rooms being somewhat basic. The atmosphere at the lodge is often described as relaxing, with its rustic simplicity and picturesque beach location, perfect for watching sunsets. Visited savaii on the weekend with family for the palolo fest, we drove out to vaimoana to look for accomodation n found they were fully booked, all resorts on that end were all booked out.
We spoke to the front officer i think her name is michelle n found her very accomodating friendly n professional as she tried to help us by calling other hotels around the area to see if any availability for us. Because it is palolo season this is the place to be, as it is very convenient to join the village or catch palolo early hours of the morning which we got to experience this n would like to thank rosie n saleimoa the lovely owners of vaimoana for going out of there way to try and find us a room as we had no where else to stay, we truly appreciate your hospitality. I highly recommend this place as the staff are very friendly and very approchable. Thank you also for finding the gin i wanted for the night. Will defenitly be back again with all my family.

Staff helpful and friendly. Appreciated being able to drink water from the taps (most places you have to filter). Rooms clean and tidy, grounds and buildings getting dated but who cares when the service is good, the sheets clean and the food yummy. Breakfast included a filling buffet of fruit, and toast etc. For snorkelling pop up the road to Vaisala Hotel, pay $5 Tala and check out the lovely Bay. Enjoyed the Koko plantation tour as well.

We loved our stay! The staff were very friendly and the setting was stunning. The weather was perfect in Asau and very peaceful. We also really enjoyed our tour of the Koko plantation across the road. Breakfast was delicious too. The rooms were comfortable and had air conditioning but we preferred to sit ousitde and look at the ocean and watch the sunsets.

A couple of things to note is that the WiFi was not working when we were there which was not a problem for us as there was alot to see and do, plus it meant some relaxation time away from screens! Also be aware that as the location is a little out of the way there are not any restaurants etc around and the remoteness can some times mean a few items are missing from the menu. Not an issue for us but if you are a pickier eater just be aware.

Pros - Breakfast buffet was good although it was the same food for the 4 days we stayed there we enjoyed the koko alaisa, pancakes, muffins, toast and various fresh fruits, coffee and fresh lemon juice.
Dinner menu was limited with some food on the menu that were unavailable. We ordered the steak for $48st from the menu one night and when we went to pay they told us it was $58st. No changes were made on the menu price and the waitress did not tell us.
We requested a samoan feed of faalifu kalo, luau, sapasui, moa samoa and lamb ribs. The staff went above and beyond to meet our request. Our samoan buffet was charged at $45st pp. It was very delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it despite the fact that 3 people were unwell and missed out with sore tummies 🙂.

Cons- Rooms are very basic and seriously in need of upgrading and fresh paint. We stayed in a room with an ensuite. Shower has mould, the floor was slippery, beds were hard and uncomfortable, makes a squeaky noise when you move or turn.
There are no cups, cutlery, kettle tea/coffee, shampoo/conditioner, face cloths or hand towels in the rooms.

Had a meal here in January 2020, walk in not in house guest. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our meals 2 x fish and chips and fish coconut sauce. Very small portions. 2 of the 3 small pieces of fish in my meal were cut from the thin end of the fillet.
But watched in house guests get meals much quicker and much larger servings.
Also stick with the Taula, cocktails very poor.

The view was fantastic looking out over the little cove and the sea. Booking was easy and the staff very friendly and helpful, in particular the owners daughter who was home for some holidays from NZ. I really enjoyed the Samoan porridge breakfast and the food and drinks at the restaurant for dinner were very good. The wait staff were attentive. The gardens were lovely. The room was spacious with good mosquito protection. It was clean. The bathroom plumbing needed some attention but we coped and the room price was accurate. The beach was rocky for swimming and thongs, sandals or reef shoes are recommended. The hotel was easy to find (we ended up arriving in the dark too after catching a 2pm ferry and driving anti clockwise).

I was prepared for this seaside to be quite rustic but gorgeous - and it didn’t disappoint. This isn’t for you if you want five (or even four or three) star luxury. But if you are looking for a comfortable stay in a fale and beachside resort and prepared to ‘rough it’, this is perfect.

I stayed in a Sunset Fale (without air con and ensuite though) and it was perfect. The lack of air con was no problem at all as the sea breeze was ample. The room was basic but very clean and the mosquito net great (although I never really encountered any mosquitoes). The private deck was lovely for reading and relaxing.

The shared bathrooms were clean enough (far cleaner than I have seen at backpackers) and the outdoor shower incredibly refreshing.

There is a Gilligans Island vibe to this resort and while I was ready to really rough it, I was pleasantly surprised at how relaxing and delightful it was. The open air restaurant was rustic but wonderful and the staff always made an effort to present it perfectly.

The menu seemed ample but often there were dishes that were unavailable (not uncommon in Samoa).

Days could be easily wiled away sitting on the deck or in the restaurant looking out to the crystal blue sea, enjoying the sea breeze.

The staff, while a little unpolished, were hard working and couldn’t do enough for me. They were delightful and really did their best at providing the best customer service they could. They took the time to remember each guest’s names and always greet them personally. All were an absolute delight!

There is also a small supermarket located opposite the resort.

A wonderful little rustic, basic but beautiful getaway in a stunning location.

Nothing to miss while staying at Va-i-Moana instead of a western-owned fancy and overpriced resort! The food is really good and reasonably priced, the staff very welcoming, some rooms even have hot showers (uncommon in Samoa), there are many things that will keep you busy like the sport facilities and the lagoon, easy to explore by kayak (even over multiple days considering the size) offering plenty of marine life.
Probably our best stay in Samoa.

We recently stayed at a seaside resort in Samoa for my partners birthday and I couldn't have been happier with my experience. The resort was located right on the beach, with stunning views of the ocean from my room. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating in traditional Samoan attire. They went above and beyond to make the birthday celebration special, setting up a beautiful party on the pontoon and beachside with traditional Samoan cuisine and a beautiful decorations with a private bar, the grazing table was especially awesome !

The rooms were spacious and clean, with comfortable beds and air conditioning. The staff were very excellent and we invited them to also join the party.
If you’re a tourist who wants to getaway from the busy and noise of city life then Vaimoana is the place to stay.

Overall, our stay at the seaside resort in Samoa was a truly memorable experience. The beautiful setting, friendly staff, and wide variety of activities made for a perfect birthday celebration. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a tropical getaway.

Where do I start. …. My family and I LOVE LOVE LOVE our stay at the Vaiomoana resort. From our first phone call to check for availability til the very end of our stay. After a long day of being stuck at the wharf waiting to get on a ferry from Apia to Savaii, it all made up for by hospitality of Michelle (manager) and her staff. Michelle, Trina, Tammy, Salote, Tala and the rest of the staff made us feel so welcome . My kids especially my son was so attached to Trina and kept calling her “my friend” because even they felt comfortable and welcomed. We stayed at the family room and everything was 100% up to our expectations. The resort had so much accommodations to make your stay enjoyable. The resort was so clean. The beach was Amazing. The view from the dining area was on point. Their breakfast was always so delicious. We had dinner at the resort a few nights throughout our stay and I have to give it to the chef, the fried chicken was the best I’ve had so far (coming from America). Michelle and girls knew us by name. I kept complimenting how Michelle was such a good manager just by the way she treated her staff. There are a lot of young girls working the front desk and dining and it made me happy cause I’m a firm believer of giving our young people opportunities like these so they can grow. I can go on and on about how much we love this place. I’ve already made up my mind that everytime we come to Savaii, we will make the drive all the way here in Asau just to stay at the Vaiomoana resort.

I'd take your own wine if you can. They had only cask wine when we stayed. Yuck! The local beer is good and relatively cheap. They make an awesome pinà colada as the coconut cream and pineapple are fresh. The other cocktails were not as nice as they use artificial syrup flavourings. Over all I'd say our bar tab was pretty cheap. We bought beer at the local stores for our fale as well. The young coconuts are lovely and refreshing too. As someone else said you need to drink bottled water which is about $SD6 from memory for a large bottle. We asked for a jug for our room so we could boil our own and refill the bottles. They were happy to oblige.

HI Ingrid Scuba is about 45 minutes away in Manase if you have a hire car, bit longer if you want to go by bus. We were there for a week and the only rats we saw were very friendly. If you dont go here, you are mad, we loved it. David.
