Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed for a week in a garden/beach fale. It was traditional coconut thatch roof and screens, set in the rambly garden next to the main hotel building. We used the shared bathroom nearby. Vaisala bay where the hotel sits is beautiful and the coral and tropical fish are abundant.
We enjoyed the restaurant location on the high balcony over the bay. The menu is wide ranging enough and well priced and fresh ingredients.
With Vaisala Hotel its the quirky dated architecture and without doubt the lovely, playful, helpful people who work and run the place that make it a pleasure to visit.

Would recommend to any person/family wishing to find a spot away from the business of life, food is absolutely fresh and tasty, our rooms were cleaned spotless daily and all our belongings were very secure, rooms are quite old but clean and that's all we required. Beach is at your doorstep and so beautiful. If you get a chance to stay there be a blessing to this business and do so, will definitely be back.

Awesome snorkelling! Large range of coral, fish and some turtles. We didn’t stay here, but wanted to! We were travelling as a family of 8 and stayed down the road but came here for a day of snorkelling as our hotel recommended it. $5 tala pp for snorkelling and to use the beach for the day was a bargain. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant and I had the best fish burger I’ve ever had. Food was great all round. No eftpos at the hotel atm so bring cash! :)

I have stayed at the Vaisala quite a few times in the past and the experience has been mixed. However this time around I noticed a great improvement overall - credit to Kolone and Maeva who now run the hotel. The service is greatly improved, excellent running water and there are quite a few activities now for tourists to do (tours, canoeing, coconut climbing weaving), they offer also great traditional massages as well. But perhaps the best part this time around was the food. The steak was tender and very tasty and the lobster was fresh and succulent. I highly recommend this place for those looking for a great beach getaway as it is set in perhaps one of the best white sand beaches in Samoa. The prices of the rooms are very affordable and would be great for family holidays. The rooms also come with a delicious tropical breakfast.

We came to this hotel for lunch. We arrived about 11 and had a snorkel off the lagoon in front of the hotel which was stunning. Then up to the balcony for lunch. The hotel is like a time capsule to an imperial outpost between the wars. Bring your Graeme Green novel. That said, the restaurant was spotless and food excellent. A great visit for us.

Have stayed in many places in Samoa but tried this one a few months ago because of the reviews on TripAdvisor. I was pleasantly surprised and can not understand why more people do not stay here. The beach is secluded and very beautiful. the swimming and snorkeling are as good as anywhere on the Island. The sunsets are brilliant. Sure the buildings are dated but where else can you stay in a stand alone room with your own toilet and shower, AC, Fridge and tea making facilities for the nominal amount they charge. Who cares if the curtains or the cups do not match. It is clean and quiet. The restaurant offers a great selection of meals. Live music at night at no extra cost was lovely. I sure hope to return again soon.

We stayed one night in this very well located hotel up northwest on Savaii. We wished we had stayed at least two. We had an old lovely bungalow close to the very nice beach. Clean, enough space and a fridge and a lovely veranda to loook out at the beach and ocean. The restaurant had several choices of food including reasonable fresh caught lobster and a lot of local twist to the preparation of foods. Even the breakfast had a very tropical and local approach.
The beach is very clean and had good snorkelling just outside from our bungalow.
No wi fi available, but really no need when you are here just to relax.

My wife and I retreated from the rainy season to a town on the northwest coast of Savai'i named "Without Water" (Vaisala) and stayed at the lovely Vaisala Hotel. Tell them you want Room 21 if you want snorkeling at your footstep, Koko Samoa drink for breakfast, a gourgeous village to walk around in, and interesting things to see on the fabulous FALEALUPO PENINSULA. Ask to meet Kolone (KO-LONE-AY) the amazing cocoa entrepreneur who is bringing back this dowager princess of a hotel and also preserving his family large acreage of criollo and trinitario cocoa trees. It's hard to get hear but it's worth it. You can rent a car at the airport or in Apia. Then you have to take the ferry (advance reservation) from the funky port near the airport across to the Big Island. Or you can passenger across and take the buses (a very early morning start recommended). Then it's 60m around beautiful asphalt roadway all the way to the Pacific's treasure island of a cocoa plantation and resort hotel. This is great to chocolate tourists wanting a bit of demonstrations and if you lucky he'll take you way up in the fields overlooking Asau Harbour to prune trees or harvest cocoa pods. There are also also beach fales that are amazingly located at the beach at a cheaper price than the bungalow-style. I actually love to stay in Kolone's beach fales in the dry season. Bring along a bit of repellant, itch cream, or aloe vera cream for sun and for insects. The huge cold Vailima beers (amazing) are for sale at the village store for SAT6.50. Bring along your own wine. I always buy the most expensive box wine in NZ or AU before coming. You can also buy cocoa beans here. Can't say enough about this operation. Kolone's Dad appropriately named Papa first built the seawall on then the hotel back in 1984. It has survived cyclone's and really help the palangi tourist just switch into fa'a samoa (the Samoan Way).

We had a wonderful weekend here with our 2 young children aged 2 and 4 years. The beach is stunning and very safe for families. We used the kayaks and even spotted a turtle amongst all the small reef fish. The food was delicious with very generous servings. The kids devoured the spag bowl and we loved the roast chicken and fish. The rooms are simple but clean. The view from your deck is gorgeous. We had hot showers and enjoyed a bit of air con in the middle of the day. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back. Thank you.
