We paid a deposit to stay at the Phantom Forest Eco Resort a few weeks before the Knysna fires. The fires were a terrible tragedy, and sorry to hear that the resort will be out of commission, but it's been three months now and we still haven't had our deposit repaid. This deposit should be held in trust and repaid immediately if the booking cannot be honoured by the resort (we did wait a few weeks after the fire to follow up). Instead we've been told that the matter is sitting with the insurers. Kit Stewart, owner of the resort, is indulging in some highly unethical behaviour. This is absolutely unacceptable, and I doubt we're the only holiday-seekers awaiting the refund. There's rumour that the resort will open again, let this be against its record.

My husband treated me to a night away here and it was so lovely. The welcome drink is a nice touch and the rooms are lovely. Windows have fly screens on which is important to me with the mozzies. The bed is very comfortable and the views are fantastic. The staff are all very helpful and nothing was too much hassle for them. The pools are lovely and a walk along the pathways are recommended. Would definitely stay here again. Maybe not ideal for small children though.

What an amazing place! Stay in a tree house, stroll on the boardwalks through the forest and swim in super pools. We only stayed one night which wasn't enough. We had a lovely dinner in the Boma with great wine and great service. Facilities were excellent and you're completely surrounded by nature with lots to look at. Room quality is great too.

We recently stayed at the Phantom Forest Eco-retreat and had the most incredible experience. From when we arrived the service was excellent, the accommodation was next level and every detail was considered. The moment that we walked in the front door of our tree house left us speechless. Unfortunately we were only there for one night, and would have really loved to have stayed longer to really relax properly. The tree houses are really private and secluded. You feel at peace when you're there.
