The Onyx is quite well situated with a 20 minute walk down to the Harbour Front and a Big Red Bus stop just round the corner. The breakfasts are good but a bit samey after a few days. There is a nice area on the fourth floor where you can enjoy a drink by the pool with a marvellous view of Table Mountain. The YU restaraunt appears to be part of the hotel and they provide good lunches with reasonably priced Cape wines. On the day we left for the airport they allowed us to keep our room until 1-30pm free of charge although normal check-out is 11am.

Located middle of town , it’s suited for business travel . Close to V&A waterfront.

The one bedroom apartment we took was very nice , large dining / lounge area , kitchen with all the requirement.

Bedroom slightly small , but very comfortable .. bathroom neat and modern , also slightly small ..

Breakfast is a very vibey setup with basic buffet of fruit cereals breads and juices . One had the option of ordering from their breakfast menu as well

Good hotel and setup , nice pool area

Located within walking distance to Victoria and Alfred water front and also to Long street shopping area this is a fairly good and safe location to stay. The hop on hop off bus stops a few minutes away, Nearby you have a few restaurants ,two mini markets and a liquor store. I stayed in a studio that felt spacious and was well equipped. It was quiet and peaceful. On the lounge floor is a small gym and a swimmingpool that looks bigger on the photos than in real life. But it is a nice relaxing area with table mountain view. The breakfast is served in the restaurant The market and it is really excellent. If breakfast is included it - you have access to a large buffé and many sorts of tea and coffee. You are also entitled to choose one item from the a la carte menu and there is a great variety to chose from. Inspired from both Asia and US food. I also had a dinner in the Onyx signature Asian restaurant. . An upscale restaurant frequented by locals too. Not too impressed as my crisp sushi plate was prepared too early and was placed on the waiting tray so I could see it but served at the same time as my husband´s fish . So then the sushi was dry an chewy but the fish was ok. It is a lively restaurant with a lot of noise and party atmosphere.
Overall I really enjoyed the stay at the Onyx as it was clean and comfortable. I want to end to highlight one of the members of the staff- Natasha. She was most helpful and is a truly asset for the hotel,

Dear karinstockholm Thanks for taking the time to leave a review on the hotel. I must agree with your comments regarding our breakfast offering at MRKT restaurant, lots to choose from and excellent quality of food and service, they also have some amazing fresh lunch and smoothie options. Please also allow me to thank you for mentioning Natasha, she is a true service ambassador for the Onyx and an absolute asset to our operations team. Thanks for mentioning the challenge in regards to the sushi at Yu, I will meet with the manger and chef to discuss a way forward in improving the timing. Thanks again for your kind words! Look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future. Kind regards Paul

The apartment was spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was amazing, freshly cooked to order with first class presentation.
Location was ideal as the hop on/off bus stops very close and V&A Waterfront is only a short, pleasant walk of 5-10 minutes.
Our apartment had a shower over the bath so please be aware that it may be quite difficult for some people to climb into the bath as it was quite high.

Our family of 5 (3 young kids) enjoyed our stay of 2 nights at Onyx Hotel in a 2br set up

the accomodation is extremely spacious with stylish apartment style set up and ours had a great sized balcony which overlooked the convention centre and out to the ports

Ours was only a short stay but it was a perfect place to recover from a long flight and it was walking distance to V&A waterfront which suited us as first time tourists to Cape Town

I must also add that the breakfast option that comes included in the room rate is of a very high quality. Breakfast is served in the ground floor restaurant / cafe called MRKT. It is not your standard mass market buffet but a more selective / smaller range of continental style breakfast but all done to a very high quality. As well you are allowed 1 selection from the ala carte menu per person which we found the options to be on par with a trendy brunch cafe that we would happily pay for outside.

will also add that there is a bar terrace on level 4 plus indoor / outdoor pool and gym which are all very functional and the terrace is a good spot for a few photos of table mountain and city views

All things said we were very pleased with our stay, the lovely staff and front of house managers

We found this place by accident as we were looking for accommodation for a family of four. There offer appeared to be very good value for money so we booked it for a three night stay snd did not regret it s single moment. The apartment with two bedrooms we had was nice and modern. The staff really attentive and extremely friendly. Breakfast at äMRKT was very good and consisted of made do order dishes and a buffet. Dinner at YU was fantastic. Drinks, Cocktails and food were excellent and very creative. Parking for our Van was offered for free in front of the hotel. The Onyx is in walking distance to the V&A and to Longstreet and downtown locations and certainly in reach of several 40 Rand Uber destinations. We found this place by far better than the price suggested and a warm-hearted wonderful Capetown alternative away from the beaten tracks.

My mom, daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at the Onyx hotel during our trip to Cape Town. I selected the Onyx because it was one of the few hotels that offered 2 bedroom apartment style accommodations. The hotel staff was very friendly and were very helpful and responsive to questions even prior to our stay. The staff helped me arrange a few tours before our visit. I thought the location of the hotel was nice as it was about a 12 min walk from the hotel to the V&A waterfront. It was also easy to catch Ubers to other parts of Cape Town (I.e., Sea Point, Clifton Beach, etc.. (FYI: Ubers in Cape Town will not pick up fares that are short distance, unlike other cities). The hotel itself was aesthetically pleasing and clean. There is a delicious Asian restaurant (delicious is actually an understatement) and a breakfast spot on site. The pool is not big but it’s nice as 1/2 of it is inside and 1/2 of it is outside. There is also a lovely spa and on our last day we had massages, facials and was provided sparkling wine during our services. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.

Stayed here 4 nights before our cruise. Having arrived from an overnight flight at 9.30am, it was lovely to be greeted by Wellington on reception, who gave us a room straight away, which helped us get some well needed sleep. Our cases were taken up to our room by Simon, who showed us around the apartment. All the staff here, couldn't have been more helpful.

Our apartment was large and very quiet. Breakfast had an excellent selection, with very friendly, helpful staff. The hotel, is in a great location for catching the hop on/hop off buses and to get to the V&A Waterfront, which is only 15 minutes walking distance away.

We would highly recommend this hotel to stay in, as it's good value, a great location and has a lovely roof bar.

So many options of places to stay but for self-catering, this seemed like the best option. I have a serious gluten allergy so staying at a place where we can cook a proper meal (daily) is a must. It had everything we needed in a large studio apartment. Everything was high end and worked great. We walked to the V&A waterfront a couple of times and there is a DisChem just down the street for convenience. We brought everything else with us which is good because there was no coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, etc-but we had it already. With free parking in a covered lot and 24/7 security it was really a great option. The gym, pool and bar were also nice options. We would stay here again 100%.

We really enjoyed staying at The Onyx Hotel! We were warmly welcomed by the concierge, who told us how to access the secure car park, and by the friendly receptionist. Our room was very spacious with a big comfortable bed, blackout curtains and a full kitchen including large fridge, microwave, cooker, crockery, glassware etc. Bathroom had a huge shower but otherwise was somewhat cramped. Breakfast was lovely, cooked to order and served by cheerful waitresses. We were a bit disappointed that our room only had a view of office blocks and a car park but this is a small niggle as we were out all day. Hotel had a lovely bar deck (with a view!) and a small heated plunge pool. Location is great for walking to the city sights or the waterfront during the day but is not really safe to walk around at night - anyway there aren't any restaurants nearby. It's a short drive to underground Silo/MOCAA waterfront car park or you can get an Uber at night. During the day, the red tour buses stop nearby. If we visit Cape Town again, we'd love to return to The Onyx!
