If you want something unique, then this is the place for you. This is a luxury boutique hotel in a train on a bridge suspended 15m above the Sabie River, which was built in 1893.
The carriages have been converted into well equipped elegant suites with en-suite bathrooms including both shower and bath, as well as mini bar fridge and coffee station.
Kruger Shalati is all about luxury and leisure. This could be by soaking in your bathtub with a river view or laying by the suspended pool whilst sipping cocktails.
The sense of welcome and pride we encountered from every staff member was amazing. They were there to assist you, no matter how small.
Our ranger, Victor, was knowledgeable and went out of his way to ensure our comfort on all game drives (2 per day).
This is a hotel which should be on everyone's bucket list - highly recommended and we will definately return.
Thanks to everyone for making our three day special.

The luxury and uniqueness of the location on the bridge was the perfect setting for a room overlooking the Sabie River, with world class dining and expert guiding. I have been traveling to the Kruger Park for 20+ years and was very fortunate to stay on the bridge that I have seen from afar for so many years. This all came together for a truly amazing experience. The game drives in the Kruger Park leave before the camps open and return after the camps close. This provided us with the opportunity for unique sightings like a pack of 20 wild dog including puppies all to ourselves for 30 minutes. I have been on many safaris in Southern Africa and our guide Nelly truly stands out in his ability to spot game that is invisible to most. Nelly shared wonderful insights and stories of the bush. He is truly an expert. Our stay was made even better by the gourmet cuisine. The quality and unique combination of ingredients along with the wide selections made for a food experience only rivaled my Michelin restaurants. This was made even better by our super service staff of Bheki and Nomzamo. They were both super in providing excellent service. Additionally at the end of most meals the chef would visit the table for feedback. Our feedback was always a long list of compliments. We will be following up to get a few recipes for some of the unique dishes we enjoyed. In addition to the expert guiding and incredible food and service the rest of of the Shalati team made every aspect of our stay wonderful. Benedict welcomed us and then effortlessly made some last minute accommodations for our family. He constantly checked in on us and ensured our every request was handled promptly. The rest of the team was very friendly and helpful. All this and I could go on at length on the unique beauty of the room. Their is something unique in sitting in a soaking tub with a full picture window as elephants and hippos wander by below you. This is a superb way to appreciate the people, wildlife, and beauty of the Kruger Park.

A beautiful property and great service, ask for justice, goodwill and Sam and say hi on my behalf. If the rooms, the views and the location don’t make you fall in love with the hotel the staff will most definitely become part of your family and make you fall in love. Great tours of the Kruger park with great ability to locate animals. Hotel is small which will give tranquility in this times of covid. The food was amazing at anytime of the day. Pls bring your bathing suit as visiting the pool area in the train is a mist to really enjoy this hotel safe travels.

My family had a block booking to celebrate my father’s 90th birthday. We selected this place as my father has a love of trains and game reserves.

They gave him room 1 which is the first carriage and closest to the restaurant. It was ideally suited to an immobile 90 year old, or someone who is incapacitated. A chair lift to get into the carriage, specially wide bathroom, bedroom layout to accommodate a wheelchair, so was easy for him to get in and around.

We took the all-in package. Food was good, but ate too much. Probably better to go for a limited package and do breakfast (8:30am start) and dinner (after game drive).

Accommodation is outstanding. Unique and luxurious. Instagram-worthy pool deck. Great staff.

We had two game drives a day in open vehicles were excellent. Saw the Big 5 and lots of other great game. Only downside if that you share this experience with day visitors in their cars.

Perfect, made to feel like family, the staff takes care of you from the second you enter. The room is stunning overlooking the river bed, herds of buffalo, giraffe, hippo, kudu, impala casually stopping by while you're in the bath tub.

As a Muslim I've never felt more taken care off. The restaurant was so accommodating to our dietary requirements and that was so appreciated, and because of that we got to experience true luxury gourmet meals. We were assured everyday by the chef everything was kept separate and fully halal, which genuinely never happens at any other 5 star establishment

Every single detail is taken care of and meticulously thought about.

Special mention to our incredible game ranger Albert for imparting your knowledge and ensuring we have an amazing experience and our waiters Jeffery and Bheki

True meaning of excellence for guests and if you want to make special memories. This train experience far exceeds any English word to describe perfection. The staff are unbelievable, friendly, helpful and eager. Food 5 star excellence all the way, deco modern and everything works in the room with very well thought ideas that make the room practical. Pools beautiful set out and game drives very professionally run. This company should be in charge of tourism in SA because they tick all the boxes to excellence in a trip. This is what a guest should get on a holiday which these days is not a given.Full marks Shalanti train !

Absolutely brilliant staying in this amazing train
However be careful of the rip offs along the way .I booked a sunset drive which was quoted at R 925 per person including sundowner drinks .
I was informed that we were being upgraded to a private drive with a contracted guide , not theirs . This was R 1250 per person .
Upon arrival at the train we were greeted by name by Benedict who showed us our amazing room and also showed us where we meet for the drive and have drinks and snacks before leaving in the drive . When we arrived for the drive we had a drink and we’re taken to the vehicle , a brand new Toyota game viewer emblazoned with the Shalati logo and their driver .Albert .We had a nice drive and stopped on the river bank on a no entry road where were served drinks and snacks set up by Victor .it was really amazing .The next morning upon checkout we were presented with a bill of R 350 for drinks consumed inn an already very highly priced private game drive .
Despite numerous requests as to why this is I have been ignored
Not the way to treat guests

The boutique hotel on the bridge at Skukuza offers an exceptional overall experience. The suites and lounge areas are decked out by African designers and swathed in beautiful fabrics. The overall experience of the safari, its location and attention to detail make this a rewarding stay.

We booked this hotel as part of our honeymoon and were were so glad we did.

The Room: We didn't book the honeymoon suite nor the train carriage room, we had a standard room. The room was so well decorated, the bed was big, two sinks, it was perfect. The minibar was all included so we could also grab anything we wanted from there at no extra charge. If you are interested read the hotel's history, there is a small magazine in the room that explains it. I knew the brief history before I came but it was a great read. The book of African proverbs was also such a unique book.

The Grounds: They are so well maintained and the view from the train carriage pool is so calming and you can really stay there all day (given it isn't too hot). The carriage pool is a bit deep, for shorter people, so if you can't swim/float you will need to hang on to the sides, but it is worth chilling and watching the hippos below. The other two pools are ideal to sit by tanning and reading a book.

The Food & Service: The food was absolutely amazing! Not sure who the chef is but every meal we had we loved. We looked forward to seeing what was on the menu. Great quality and quantity of food. It was a big highlight. Not to mention any drink you want at any point in the day! On the same note, the service we had was also fantastic. Everyone was so welcoming and always willing to help. The staff does a great job. When you arrive you will have your own morning and evening server assigned to you and they will be with your throughout your stay.

The Drives: Our driver was Mikeso (again assigned to you upon arrival for the duration of your stay) and he was great. Given that they are inside the park they aren't allowed to go off the paved roads, but there are some dirt roads inside the park they can take. On one of our drives we saw 4 out of the big 5. Other highlights were a lion that had killed a giraffe, a leopard and wild dogs. The guides work together to let each other know where they see animals and that really helps. The vehicles are very well maintained and in terms of clothes I would say wear anything comfortable.

This was our very first safari and it was very special and unforgettable. We are very happy we had this as our first stay (we also stayed at another place afterwards and did game drives there as well).

Hi, the game drives are mainly along the tarred roads, but trust me, on a good day you will definitely see a lot of game, on our first game drive that weekend we were lucky to see the big five and we didn't leave the main roads. However, saying this, the drivers are in contact with other drivers and if someone spots a worthy sighting they will, if necessary, take a side road. I hope this helps.

No binoculars are not provided but the range will have a pair that I am sure you would be able to use. But binoculars are good have on the train as one can look at the animals passing below the bridge. Strongly recommend that you have your own pair.
