What a charming place! It’s set on a farm just outside of Hazyview and on the banks of the Sabie river.

The staff really understand the concept of customer service and made us feel incredibly well looked after. The tented rooms are gorgeous and very private - the outdoor bathroom overlooking the water was something truly special. The food was to die for and the spa is one of the best ones I’ve ever been to.

This is one of those establishments that we will return to again and again. We felt truly pampered and well rested after our stay there! Thank you to the incredible team at Summerfields!

We visited Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa during the weekend of 27 - 29 August 2021. My son wanted to propose to his girlfriend and I contacted Summerfields. From the first e-mail between myself and Monique, I knew its going to be the perfect place. Shaun phoned me during that week and we discussed the options about a surprise picnic for them. When we arrived Friday 27/8, the security guard at the gate greeted us and we felt immediately the warmth of true hospitality. Lawrence met us halfway, helped us with the checking in process and took us on a quick tour through the property. Everything was immaculate and the tents were beautiful with little pots of roses everywhere. The bath overlooking the bush is so romantic!! The gardens are beautiful and peaceful!! We joined them that evening in the restaurant for the pizza evening and its was the best pizzas ever! The following day Shaun and his team set up the picnic and it was absolutely perfect. Shaun did great! It was a big surprise for my son’s. girlfriend and that evening we celebrate in style in the River Café. A big thank you to everyone who made this weekend very special for us!! I can’t remember everyone’s name’s but you are all stars and very professional and very friendly. (There was an old cleaning lady at our tent nr 12, unfortunately I cannot remember her name, who had the dearest personality ever).

If you ever need a romatic break away, don’t look further!! Summerfield Rose Retreat and Spa is the place to go!!!

It was a great experience to visit the establishment. Warm welcoming and the security personnel was very helpful when we arrived at night on a relatively cold winter day. The only snag was one of the bed heaters was not was working. Regards to your friendly staff.

Summerfields has been on the bucket list for us for some time now and as a 5-star resort, we expected summer fields to maintain the standard as listed.
Location, scenery and layout of the venue met and exceeded our expectations with an amazing feeling of being out of the chaos from JHB, however we were greatly disappointed with some aspects to which we feel really need to be addressed.
Accommodation,
Whilst the layout and location were beautiful, our shower head was like a sprinkler in the litchi fields, no steady flow in direction and had water spraying all over the bathroom,
Pool area,
We decided to relax by the pool and enjoy what Summerfield’s had to offer,
Unfortunately, very little options available when coming to drinks with only one type of whiskey and one type of gin, very poor options for a 5 star stay and very little enthusiasm from the staff that attended the bar facility,
We noticed cards and a chess board to which there was no full pack of cards or chess pieces to play an actual game, again this is not meeting a 5star rating, disappointing to say the least.
Saturday evening supper,
We were unsure to stay or not for supper as the facility did not provide their standard supper options but thought for the cost of R295.00 per person that the “South African Braai” will be worth some experience, again this was highly disappointing with really a braai that we didn’t see value at higher than a R100.00 per person, food was really average and nothing to really be proud of at the price paid. The salads ran out, and the desert was only brought to our attention just before the kitchen closed as no one came to offer us desert. Once the desert arrived the waitress apologized as the chocolate ice-cream had melted all over the plate and those were her only two plates left.
Sunday Breakfast
We ordered breakfast and only to be told the restaurant didn’t have ham nor chili, these are simple ingredients to which is not a huge disappointment but again at a 5star rated lodge, this should not be the case,
Eden Spa
Whilst the massage was splendid and really a great experience, the hydro walk was really poor and not worth the experience, each of the three showers were in bad state, the first had the jet pop off and the water was everywhere with a combination of mist and falling water loads from the heads,
The second shower was simply water off the trunk of a branch, nothing spectacular at all, a better flow of water would have been better here and then the third was a

We used to love coming to the cafe at summerfields but it has recently been renovated and since then the food quality has clearly deteriorated. We ordered a focaccia (R40), a beef burger (R125) and two house wines (R110). Totally not worth it. The burger was said to come with a "bacon ham" and brie cheese, the "bacon ham" ended up being a spelling mistake and is meant to be bacon jam. There wasn't even brie cheese on the burger, just cheddar a d it was very average. My focaccia was the most rubbery kind of pizza I've had.
We did point it out to our waitress and the price for the burger was not even lessened according to the price of brie cheese and cheddar cheese. Our bill ended up being R300 just for lunch and it would've been fine if we had a nice filling meal but it just was not worth it.

NOT 5-STAR AT ALL!! SO DISAPPOINTING...

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and dissatisfaction following our recent stay at Summerfields. As a frequent visitor since 2014, our fourth visit has regrettably left a lasting negative impression.

Room Conditions:

The bed linen was not only dated but also uncomfortable, making it difficult to enjoy a good night's sleep.
The presence of spiders and broken lampshades in the room significantly detracted from the overall experience.
The towels and bathrobe showed signs of wear and tear, with noticeable holes in both.

Facility Issues:

The Wi-Fi service was sporadic, hindering our ability to stay connected during our stay.
The bath's prolonged warm-up time, exceeding an hour, was inconvenient and disrupted our daily schedule.
A reported broken tap was not addressed during our stay, indicating a lack of prompt maintenance.

Hygiene and Amenities:

The complimentary toiletries were diluted, reflecting a disregard for quality in the provided amenities.
The presence of an old damp smell in the room, coupled with damp linen, raised serious concerns about cleanliness and upkeep.

Dining Experience:

Despite repeated requests regarding my wife's pork allergy, the breakfast staff consistently overlooked this crucial detail, compromising her safety.
The restaurant's hygiene was questionable, with flies present in the morning and frequent errors in our breakfast orders.
Our dinner experience was marred by an uninformed waitress and an overpriced, subpar rump steak.

Spa Experience:

Communication breakdowns occurred at the spa, as the therapist failed to adhere to specific requests related to my pregnant wife's massage, requiring multiple reminders.

Management Involvement:

The lack of any management presence during our stay was conspicuous and contributed to an overall sense of neglect.

Despite the picturesque setting along the Sabie River, these issues have collectively led us to the decision that this will be our last visit to Summerfields. The establishment's overrated status, coupled with the exorbitant prices, fails to justify the substandard service and facilities encountered.

It is my hope that this comprehensive feedback prompts a thorough examination of the areas highlighted, fostering improvements for future guests.

Terrible food/dinner and NO privacy but spa a highlight. Stayed at summerfields for a weekend ( 15/11 - 17/11 ) and what a total disaster. Dinner was really a huge disappointment. My mussels main was so bitter I could not eat it, my chips terrible. My wifes trout OK but dry. When we complained, we just got a smile. Breakfasts not bad, just cold. BUT, the smelly french drains a shocker...and do not go here as you have NO privacy.
Me and my wife had a bath and was naked in room ( 10 ) when a summerfields employee walked into our tent with two new customers, and yes, we were completely naked. The most embarrassing part is that she just laughed after looking at us for a few seconds, did not even try to close her eyes. She just said that it is obviously the wrong room.
We went to kfc and bought food as we were to embarrassed to face the people that saw us.
They phoned and said that lady informed them but it was in a "so what" attitude and voice. The next day they said she phoned hysterically but this rubbish, she laughed at us.
No service recovery done. We are still considering going the legal route on this one. Watch this space

Dear Sir We are truly sorry to hear about your experience at Summerfields. Our new concierge made an honest mistake in taking guests to your room, and was so flabbergasted that she froze when she noticed you in the room through the side window. She was so traumatized by the event that she resigned a few days later. In fairness, you could have closed the curtain blinds, which would have given you total privacy. I will communicate with you via a personal email. Best regards,

Looking for an exquisite and comfortable lunch in the neighborhood of Hazyview we can highly recommend you this restaurant along the Sabie river. Seated outside on the tranquil porch with small wildlife moving along the banks of the river we enjoyed a simple but perfect lunch. Well prepared, moderately priced and with friendly and professional service. Beautiful and luxurious setting and next time when visiting the panorama route and Kruger we will definitely book a room for a couple of days in this luxurious and well-maintained resort.

Our stay at Summerfields was absolutely amazing. The staff is really great and super helpful and eager to be of assistance. We had noisy neighbors, which annoyed us as we wanted to enjoy the night sounds and the peace and tranquility that Summerfields has to offer. The staff was great and ensured that they kept the noise levels at bay so that we could enjoy our stay. A must if you are a nature lover, as Summerfields really manages to tuck you away in natures arms. The tented room is exceptional, neat and tidy and very well maintained. The bathroom was my best with having an early morning bath outside in nature! The massage that we got was awesome took the hustle and bustle from the busy city life in Jhb out of the muscles while listening to the Sabie river flow below. The food and service was also outstanding, friendly staff and a brilliant chef.
Well done to all staff and management of Summerfields for a wonderful stay, see you soon for our next visit! Regards John & Genevieve

I think you would be better asking Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa direct. We did not have a game drive whilst we were there and so I cannot answer with any real authority. It wasn't obvious that they provided such a facility but I'm sure, given how good they are there, that they would be happy to arrange one on your behalf.

Hallo Lyn You sent me a message regarding contact with Summerfields Rose Spa. I am only a Person who wrote a Review on the Resort and not the Management thereof. However, why don't you try and contact them via email. Tripadvisor doesn't allow me to send you the email address, but you'll find it on their Website. Believe me, its worth going to the trouble of getting in touch with them. The Resort is absolutely fantastic. Hope this helped you in some way. Enjoy! Kind regards from Switzerland.
