Travellers' Choice
Parsons Hilltop is a safari camp, nestled in the outcrops of Balule Game Reserve, with a stunning view onto the Drakenberg mountains. We have started the new lodge since September 2018. We are situated in the Greater Kruger Area, unfenced and connected to the Kruger National Park. Our camp can best be described as rustic-chic, we have tried to keep the authentic feel to it with the comfort of a boutique hotel. We only accommodate 8 guests so privacy is guaranteed. We have 4 secluded canvas tents, all with a private viewing deck and mountain view or at the waterhole, where animals come to drink at night. All tents have en suite bathroom. The lodge offers a main lounge with a lounge deck and a plunge pool. All meals and one game drive are included in the nightly rate. We require a minimum stay of 2 nights. We can organise day trips to Kruger or to the Panorama route for you, all departing from our lodge. Our management team is waiting to welcome you at Parsons Hilltop Safari Camp.

We enjoyed our stay at Parsons a lot! What an adventure to stay at this safari camp with wild animals so close. The lions calling at night, elephants at the water whole and near the tent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner very tasteful and made with love. Highlight was the Braai in the Boma:) A big shout out to Stephan who was our guide. He has so much passion for wild life. We also recommend a bushwalk with Paul. He can read nature. So we definitely recommend to stay at Parsons.

We stayed for 2 nights at Parsons Hilltop and it was a really great experience. It is a very small camp where we slept in ons of there tents. You can hear and see the elephants and other animals walking next to your tent. The rangers took us on several drives and had all the time to explain evertthing you would like to know. At the end of the day we had dinner with the other 6 guests on the camp which made it extra nice. Thanks for the fantastic 3 days!

Great location with beautiful views in a surrounding atmosphere. You really have the out of Africa/Livingstone feeling here! Most friendly staff ever. Everything about the lodge was exceptional. The splashpool overlooking the bush, the common area with all the telescopes, the outstandingly stocked honestybar. It was clean, stylish, roomy, excellent service. Food was good. Great value for money. The safari tents are very spacious and decorated with care. Good beds, well equipped and comfortable. I was very pleased with my stay. Head ranger Ras is the man with the plan!! Absolutely the right guy at the right place! Thank you Parsons-crew! Daniel

Everything during our stay at Parsons Hilltop (what a view!) was right: beautiful and luxurious lodges in a private and intimate setting, delicious food and drinks, and that's why you are there after all, unforgettable gamedrives in the early morning and the dark of the evening. Stunning sunrises and -downers, including food and beverages. Small summary of what we saw: elephants, giraffes, monkeys, hippo’s, zebras, impala's, chameleons and dun beetles. And cherry on top, a lion pride with young cubs! We felt very special to be a part of this all and thanks to the rangers, we always felt safe. Mirjam, Ras, Steffan and staff, thank you so much for giving us the best experience of our life.

What an amazing stay we had at the Parsons House! We loved the location, the game drives with Jonathan, the excellent food from Tapsy and the good care of Lex. Everything was just wonderful. We would really recommend to stay at Parsons House for everyone who is looking for a very special stay in the wilderness of South Africa.

My friend and I had an amazing stay at Parsons. We saw so many different animals including a lion, a large herd of elephants, a trio of giraffes, and many more. The small hilltop camp is utterly charming with a Hemingwayesque lodge overlooking a gorgeous view. Perfect for relaxing while reading and drinking a cocktail. The tent was very comfortable with a large bathroom. Our three nights there were wonderful and I highly recommend staying here. Our safari guide Lex was fantastic as well.

Now this is a place you will hardly forget for many reasons, good and bad! First of all I like that there is no wifi in the tents. A true detoxing. The tents have pretty much all you need and the best part will definitely be the terrace with the plunge pool or jacuzzi! Game drives are truly amazing and the staff if knoledgeable, they are all very very kind and friendly and always do your best to get you to see the big animals! Unfortunately such an “high standards"-like place doesn’t come withouth flaws: upon arrival we were literally told that the camp was not affected by load shedding. That actually happened, the lights in the tents were "on" wihout us knowing, and when we returned from the game ride and dinner, the whole place was crawling with insects. Also I found quite unprofessional not making us aware that the drinks offered, I repeat offered, during the game drives were chargeable. Not a problem with that… just tell us, it came across as cheeky and I just don't like it. Drinks are kind of expensive compared to other camps, twice as much in some cases. Breakfast is ok but really nothing amazing, lunch is super disappointing, so don't be fooled by the "full board" thing because lunch just a rather dull burger or wrap! Dinner is the only acceptable meal, albeit not really up to the "luxury" the camp ranks itself as. Having said that, Parson's Hilltop is still one of the best value around the area, it just takes being aware of certain things. It goes without saying that an average southafrican cannot even dream to ever stay here even for a night only. On a note, I was later told that these places are not catered for locals, which is kind of a shame but hey.... this might be me. It's a beautiful site with unparalleled views, I wouldn't say I will not return there, because after all the value (for "us") is undeniable. A little advice: whenever you go in and out make sure you SEAL close every door and mosquito net AND outer layer, there are plenty of insects and bugs that always find a way to get in even from the tiniest hole. Also make 100% your car can take a VERY rough road to get there, it takes forever from the entrace of the park. Make sure you stay at least two nights!

With our family of 5, we had 3 unforgettable nights at Parsons Hilltop. The game drives & early morning coffee & afternoon snack during the game drive with stunning views. A big thank you to ranger Ras and his colleague Lex (on training) for the excellent drives and his knowledge and great sense of humor. The main lodge feels like a home and with a plunge pool on the deck with views over Balula and Kruger, you feel the most spoiled person on earth. The food was diverse and nice and all staff was helpful and service minded.

Mirjam, ras, tillie, sam and patience made our stay a great experience despite the lousy weather. They were prepared for the weather and the game drives through the rain were special. Dinner was perfect at a place that made us feel as being home. The tents an beds are so comfortable and at the right place to enjoy wildlife. When leaving the campsite the elephants came to say goodbye. Thank you mirjam and team for creating this memorable experience.
