Tshukudu Private Game Reserve is home to 2 Safari Lodges and borders the world renowned Greater Kruger National Park. The perfect combination of comfort and luxury in the heart of Big 5 territory. The 3800 ha reserve has magnificent views of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and offers close encounters with nature's fiercest predators as well as the more gentle species and birdlife. Tshukudu Game Lodge comprises a 4 star, full board safari lodge and a 3 star COMMUNAL self-catering camp. Get back to nature by joining us on one of our adventurous and safe activities. The most popular are definitely the early morning or late afternoon game drives. There are also a multitude of activities on offer in the Hoedspruit area. Tshukudu, being a Big 5 Game Reserve, provides the opportunity to spot a vast range of wild animals such as Bushbuck, Buffalo, Cheetah, Crocodile, Duiker, Elephant, Eland, Giraffe, Hippo, Impala, Jackal, Kudu, Lion, Leopard, Steenbuck, White Rhino, Waterbuck, Wildebeest and Zebra as well as many other species. Not too mention the abundant flora and birdlife. We are involved in the public education and environmental awareness of our natural heritage, and our main priority is the protection of Rhinos. Tshukudu means Rhino in seSotho or seTswana (native African Language)

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tyler was very knowlegable and a superb guide. Not once did I feel unsafe on the game drives. He made sure we all had time to take photos and to ask questions and before driving off will ask if it is OK if we continue. Not a lot of guides will do that For me as an Afrikaans speaking person it was fantastic to be greeted in Afrikaans by the ladies in reception. It made us feel so much more welcome. The visit by Rosie, the cat, to our room on the morning of 7 March 2020 was also very special and made the longing to my own cat better The Pool at Marula Camp was fantastic and just what we needed before our afternoon drive. The water was clear and the towels soft and big Overall a fantastic visit. I will definitely visit again

This was our second time staying at tshukudu. But this time we opted to go self catering just for something different.. The lodge took us into hoedspruit for food etc which was helpful as we didn't hire a car. The room was exceptional, large bathroom and large rooms with fridge etc. The self catering kitchen was huge and had everything you needed apart from salt and pepper and oil.. so don't forget these when buying your food. When returning from game drives the boma was lit every night and the tables were set up with lanterns etc. Game Drives, well what can we say, tristan you are amazing and will never forget you. .thankyou, saw all the big 5, but more above this was tristans kindness and knowledge. Well done . Hopefully will be back for a 3rd time.

Dear nikki25104, Thank you for taking time to review your recent visit to Tshukudu Marula Camp. We are pleased to hear that you found all the facilities to your liking and that Tristan ensured that your game viewing was an enjoyable experience. As communicated on the website etc. no meals, food or beverages are included when booking self catering accommodation. As such all food and beverage items, including basics like salt & pepper, need to be brought with for the duration of your stay. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to your next visit.

It was almost 20 years ago that I first visited Tshukudu, and returning now was equally memorable. The accommodation and setup of the Marula self catering camp is first rate, and we had a wonderful and relaxing experience. We saw wonderful game on the drives, and the rangers were knowledgeable, friendly and more than accommodating. All round a great experience. The only suggestion I would make is that we seemed to focus on the same areas in each drive, and it seemed like exploring further afield would be interesting. I would not hesitate to recommend Tshukudu though, and hope to be back sometime soon.

We absolutely loved every minute of our short stay! My brother had spent 4 months a few years back and now all together has been amazing , the staff was second to one in attention and we felt very well looked after at all times ! We were lucky and saw 4 of the big five species and little antelopes, birds, eagles ! What a lovely game reserve :)

Great stay. Money was worth the stay. Its more expensive than average in south africa but you get so much more out of it. We had a great stay with our1.5 year old son. They arranged alot for us. He was able to join on the drive and they even made him his own dinner . So he could join dinner with us. I would recommend it too everyone who want to have a great experience and a relax stay. I think your stay should be at least 2 nights if you want to have a good relaxing time

Travelling with friends, taking them on their first ever African safari, comes with responsibilities. I need not have worried - Tshukudu kept on giving from the moment we arrived - the location, roads into the lodge, the reception team, Andy our ranger , all the staff and the wildlife in the area offered a wonderful immersive African experience. Our accommodation was perfect with all the comforts welcome after a long drive complemented by the unique location and amenities offered. The tent a wonderful "African experience" for our first time visitors. Late afternoon called and with our ranger Andy at the wheel of the Land Cruiser, a drive into the reserve a special up close wildlife encounter unfolded . Andy offered knowledge in abundance on the wildlife and surroundings and tracked lion, explaining the how's and whys of wildlife living in the Bushvelt. Sundowners by the dam listening to Hippo as the last rays of sun dipped below the horizon with the mountains as a backdrop added to the atmosphere and with a good wine to fire the taste buds finished off a memorable sundowner experience. A night time safari back to a wonderful fire side meal was the perfect end to the day. An early start the following day only added to the memories of the first, with elephant tracks observed outside of our "first time safari" friends tent . This was followed by a bush walk in Big Five territory with stories of bush craft medicines and tribal life from Andy. During our walk, we were thrilled to be joined by an orphaned cheetah who lives "wild" in the reserve and her walking along side us was a special memory for all. Thank you Tshukudu for an African treat that will be in our memories for a long time !

We had an excellent stay at Marula Camp, but did miss the feeling of being in the bush. Although the camp is well-maintained, we looked onto a swimming pool with a steel modern playground. Would have preferred to sit on the verandah and looking at the bush. Also did not like the idea that the papa is at the back of the entertainment area. As we are a private couple, we would have preferred a braai area at our chalet.

Dear matume2018, Thank you for taking time to review your visit to Tshukudu Marula Camp. Kindly note that Tshukudu Marula Camp is advertised on all platforms as a family friendly, communal self-catering facility. Although we are pleased to hear that you had an excellent stay and that you felt the camp was well maintained, we would advise making yourself au-fait with accommodation and facilities prior to confirming a booking in order to avoid disappointment on arrival.
