We stayed here in early July 2019. The trip was booked at the last minute because of last minute complications of a planned trip to Kenya (which is not unusual for Africa travel). Avoca could take us on less than 48 hours notice for a three night stay. The lodge can accomodate 8, but our family of 5 had the camp to ourselves for the three nights of our stay. Jonathan (Jonah) owns and operates the camp, as well as runs the safaris out of the camp.. Ghisele cooks breakfast and dinner. She is wonderful, as are her meals. (Ask for her Malva Pudding recipe -- phenomenal.) The camp is in the middle of the Timbavati Game Reserve, a private game reserve along the western border of Kruger National Park. It is open to the park's border and animals cross back and forth freely. Since Timbavati only has a total of three lodges within it, the viewing of animals is abundant and frequent. Jonah is an fantastic guide. He starts and emphasizes the safety of his guests first, provides terrific history of the country, and abundant facts regarding all the animals in the area. Avoca is a wonderful experience. I would strongly recommend anyone interested in viewing animals stay here.

We spent 3 nights here at Avoca in the Timbavati after spending 3 nights in the Pafuri region to get a taster of different environments. The accommodation was quaint, cosy and very comfortable (bush babies can be loud at night but they are very cute so they are forgiven!). The rest/relax area and kitchen were also great and everything ran on solar power so the footprint is very low! The Brai/Boma outside eating area was outstanding, I now want one of these at home! Wifi is available during the day for a few hours whilst the solar battery is charging, but this wasn't very important to us. The lodge owner, Jono, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the area given he had grown up there and knows it like the back of his hand. He provided us with excellent game drives (including sun downer spots) and we managed to see most of the big 5 (unfortunately the wild dogs turned up the day we left). Overall we loved staying here, the staff were very friendly and helpful and it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We were 2 families: 4 adults and 4 children. The hosts are charming and their stories fascinating. Thanks to their professionalism, we saw exceptional animals. Last, but not least, the food is also excellent! a huge thank you! Hope to come back...

I must say a HUGE thank you to Jono and his team for making our stay a truly amazing experience!! My fiancé and I have not only come away from seeing the BIG 5, which was absolutely mind blowing, and a dream come true, but the way Jono talked us through all the tracks in tracking down these special animals was incredible in itself. I will definitely be recommending this amazing place to everyone!! Thanks again Jono and family for the truly unforgettable experience x

I visited Avocado Bush Camp In November after being recommended by a close friend who visited earlier on in the year. Not only were we hosted by the most amazing family but we were full indulged in ‘The Bush’ lifestyle. After the picturesque drive to the lodge, we were instantly welcomed by Jonno, his family and their amazing staff. The lodge and it’s accommodation amazing and despite being remotely located in the Bush, living beside nature, We could not have felt more safe. The game viewing was an experience of a lifetime and we were treated to some of the best sights that the world has to offer. Watching Elephants play in the water, Black Rhino nursing their young and watching all of the wildlife in their natural habitat was something many would only dream of seeing. My highlight was being woken up in the middle of the night to jump into the game viewer to watch a pride of Lions who had just hunted a buffalo. We sat in the vehicle under the light of Jonno’s torch whilst watching the pride eat their kill. After a short while, four lion cubs appeared out of the bush to join in the feast and it was the most amazing sight to see. We even had the pleasure of visiting the famous Kruger National Park. Each day we had a couple of ‘game drives’ and indulged on amazing meals and traditional South African Braai (BBQ). We were constantly treated like Royalty throughout our stay and I can happily Recomended Avoca Bush Camp for anyone who is looking into a safari holiday and I hope to return again. Kieron

Very welcoming family who gave us a safari experience above and beyond our expectations! Jono, his family and staff made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived, his knowledge of the bush gave us an insight that no other camp could provide. We had an amazing two weeks exploring various places and experiences. The best experience however is Avoca bush, which we felt offered much more and allowed us to see the amazing animals up close which Kruger did not. Would love to stay here again and would recommend anyone to do so! Becky and Dave

My title says it all, my trip to Avoca Bush Camp was truly PRICELESS! A safari experience like no other with second to none hospitality from Jono & his family. The holiday highlight was being woken up at 4am by Jono shouting ‘Everybodyyy on the bus, the lions have made a kill’. Jono went above & beyond to ensure we experienced the real bush, something that other camps simply don’t offer. Seeing wild animals in their natural habitat is exhilarating & you can rest assured that Jono will get you as close as safely possible to the diverse wildlife that Avoca Bush Camps private’s grounds have to offer, which of course includes THE BIG 5. I spent 14 days in absolute awe with my exotic surroundings, the magnificent wildlife & Jono’s expert knowledge, as well as celebrating my birthday in true South African spirit with a bush braii. If you want to experience the bush for what it really is, then I have no doubt Avoca Bush Camp, Jono & family will steal a little piece of your heart. I can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I had the best experience with Jonno and his staff during our stay in November 2018. Jonno is so warm and friendly and really made us feel like family. Great staff, great food, great setting. We wanted a more authentic bush camp experience and not anything luxurious, so if that's what you're looking for this is the place. The camp is very intimate in that it only sleeps 8 people and he only rents it out to groups who know each other, which is a huge plus. We were lucky in that it was only my husband and I staying there which made it even more special. Thanks Jonno and staff, we will never forget this trip!
