Stayed at Rukiya for 5 nights at the beginning of February 2020. From the moment we arrived everything was Perfect. We were picked up at the airport by Michael who was an excellent host from minute we arrived. A very warm welcome awaited us at Rukiya by Shanel who made us feel at ease and welcomed us into the lodge. Check in was perfect and informative yet not intrusive.

We experienced 3 evening drives with sunset drinks, 3 early morning drives in Excellence and also 1 private game drive in the Kruger National Park (Extra Cost but worth every penny and more). What makes this place a "Gem" is the team, our host for all drives was Harry who was so passionate and informative and was a true English Gentleman with excellent humour (which I picked up being a fella Brit and made me laugh inside). Jamiel was also an amazing tracker, risking his life on the front of the Land Rover - I am still amazed to this day how Jamiel managed to spot a Fishing Owl (x3) in the tree whilst driving through Excellence!! Jamiel you are a star in the making and next year once you have qualified your game drives will be amazing with you as a guide. Michael's passion and understanding of Excellence is incredible to witness and all 3 guides really made sure that every morning drive was one to remember!!

I would also like to thank all of the back of house team (Accommodation Services and Kitchen) - Our room was immaculate every day and the food being served from the Kitchen team was excellent.

This was my first time Glamping and doing Safari > I can not thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making this one of the best experiences of my life. I'm not gonna lie but I was upset to leave Rukiya as it truly was everything and more, but with an amazing team.....

My partner and I decided to finish our trip around Kruger with a 3 night stay at Rukiya Camp, as we had heard many great things about the reserve and the experience. We are so glad we took the opportunity to stay here. Rukiya Camp combines luxury accommodation and high quality service from a front-office perspective, all the way through to incredible in-depth knowledge of the fauna and flora of the area provided by the rangers.

We spent each day either driving or walking around the reserve, tracking animals on foot and learning so much about every topic we brought up. My partner and I consider ourselves seasoned bush people, and we still learned many small details that we will always remember. From a game drive each morning with breakfast in the bush, to a late afternoon/night drive with sundowners on one of the many beautiful view points, each day was amazing.

One of the key things we wanted to achieve from our trip was to see the Pel’s Fishing Owl and the African Finfoot, and the rangers were able to provide excellent sightings of both (the Finfoot from the deck of the lodge!).

A big shout out to Lily and Sam, Conrad and Jamiel, who made our stay an absolute pleasure, as well as Mavis for the amazing cooking (chicken and mushroom risotto in the middle of the bush was a first for us).

We cannot recommend this experience highly enough, and we will be singing praises for Rukiya Camp to anyone that will listen, and we cannot wait to get back there.

It’s also worth mentioning that Rukiya Camp is offering SADC pricing during lockdown, so I cannot stress enough to get there while it’s still quiet and really affordable for us rand-spenders, as it’s really amazing.

Our first steps into Safari were at Rukiya on an organised trip with On Track Safaris. The accommodation is kept spotlessly clean (as long as you zip up and keep the monkeys out!). Hot water bottles appearing in the beds whilst we were at dinner was a great touch. It gets cold at night next to the river in August.
The enthusiasm of all of the team from manager Kevin, cook Mavis and the game drivers and trackers was infectious. Such a love and understanding of how wonderful it is to be living and working amongst nature.
Went the extra mile when animals appeared out of schedule drive times including the owner of the property. It was exciting. It was fun. It was safe as these guys knew how to respect the animals and birds around.
Mobility challenges let them know as some accommodation further from shared lounge/dining room. But the team are brilliant at offering and giving assistance.
Thank you.

My family of four (kids 13 and 17 years) stayed at Rukiya at the River House for 4 nights over my birthday. The accommodation, service, amenities and game drives during the stay were excellent. The guide at Rukiya (Kevin from Belgium) took care of all our requirements including conducting a walking tour of the Wilds Reserve one morning.

We stayed at the 2 bedroom River House which is a private house next to the main lodge and away from the tented camps. It has all the appliances required for self catering but we decided on the breakfast and dinner package. The hot tub was great in winter and the food prepared by Mavis was always great.

We did a guided afternoon drive to the adjacent game farm with Conrad, did a self drive into Kruger at the Orpen Gate (1 hr drive from Rukiya) and the walking tour. Saw lots of wilfldlife including a leopard at night at the Wilds Reserve. Saw tracks of other predators.

Can definitely recommend Rukiya for a family stay when visiting the Greater Kruger Area.

We spent a 3 day weekend as a family for a birthday celebration. The service and care were outstanding, friendly, accommodating and attentive. The place is beautiful, accommodation in luxury tents, with a secret hot water bottle added in our beds while we were dining!
Delicious home cooked food.
The game drives were in private reserves so not overfilled with noisy vehicles. Conrad and his incredible vehicle took us to unbelievable viewing, he even climbed a tree to photograph a baby rare Pelz Fishing Owl! Thank you Lily and Conrad and little Lettie!

When I pictured a dream trip to Africa with my daughter, I pictured Rukiya! What made the trip even more wonderful was the people there - they all truly have a gift for customer service. Michael manages to ensure all guests have an amazing experience, and his own excitement at seeing the animals is infectious! He is really a superstar guide and goes above and beyond every day. Mbongeni is such a talented tracker and guide as well, and the two of them make a dream team! Jamiel is a recent graduate and already a great tracker and guide. Shanel keeps everything running so smoothly, and we couldn't believe the multi-course gourmet meals that came out of that kitchen - thank you, Maevis! Thank you all for making our trip to South Africa a dream come true.

Rukiya was the best accommodation of our three week SA trip and something that will stay with us for a long time! 10/10 service and facilities!

They are easily accessible from the main road near Hoedspruit. Arriving at the private reserve it is another 20 minute ride over dirt roads. The camp has luxurious tents with everything you need and more. Staff is excellent. The whole team is friendly, service minded and has excellent wild life guides to take you through their private reserve or an a day trip to Kruger.

Our tent had river view overlooking the lush garden and we really enjoyed that, if you have. the choice we definitely recommend that! We saw baboons, kudu, impala and heard hippo's at night. They have a wonderful pool. Breakfast, lunch and diner were all top notch. We liked that everything was taken care of for all the days and we could just take a seat and enjoy the good food.

Keep in mind that it is about 75 minutes to the closest Orpen gate from Kruger. So if you book a day trip you have some extra travel time. If you go to Kruger with Rukiya you tour with their normal jeep instead of their open safari jeep. We will never forget our true first Safari experience that day with Conraid and cannot thank him enough for all the things he learned us that day!

We spend three nights here. If we could do the trip again, we would also spend another few in Kruger itself! After doing the whole trip to Cape Town we concluded we liked this part of the country the most (Mpumalange, Limpopo, Kwazulu-Natal) as you get more of the true Africa feeling here!

Their private reserve is a non big five, but we enjoyed the views, the drinks and spending time on the property. They have a great open jeep for this. We saw a hyena, a sable antilope. We came across fresh leopard tracks, but weren't that lucky.

Credits to Kevin and his team! If you're looking for an excellent safari experience and accommodation, look no further. Best value for the money! Fatima & Stan

Shanel (Co-manager) was an excellent host as were her team back of house, who provided exceptional meals everyday and the Housekeeping standards in the tent were excellent. The game drives were always great and special thanks to Harry who conducted most of our drives, and went out of his way to ensure that even if we did not always see game, that we learnt about the bush and South Africa's flora and fauna. Harry also took us out on a personal tour to Kruger National park for a day, and he was so friendly, hospitable and he is very passionate about the bush. Harry was a true gent, polite, humble and went out of his way to impart his knowledge to us! The Game drives conducted by the camp are excellent but would also highly recommend that you book a day trip to Kruger for the day too. The lodge does this for you at an extra cost. Jamiel was such an excellent tracker and also so knowledgeable, passionate and yet so humble, and he will no doubt be an excellent guide when his time comes in a year or so. Michael, the Co- Manager, was extremely experienced and his knowledgable of the bush is outstanding. Thank you for such a great game drive on our last morning and for sharing your knowledge in such a humble and easy to understand way. Thanks too for picking us up and dropping us off. We will always remember our time and the people at Rukiya! For me it was extra special as being Zimbabwean and growing up on a Safari Ranch, brought back floods of memories. Thank you to you all!

Booked via “On Track Safaris” and had excellent 3 night stay in tented low impact on natural environment camp. Little details made our first S.A. Safari special, welcome drinks, hot water bottles in bed, sundowners at sunset, plentiful & fabulous food, homemade ice cream, with all the staff going beyond their roles. Game drives with Connaught (sorry if spelled wrong) and Hayden tracking lions and rhinos at Excellence reserve exciting and on the Wild Rivers reserve informative. Can’t thank you enough tracking the elusive leopard and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here.

I have had the opportunity to stay at Rukiya twice and I've really loved both it times. It has been both a starting and ending point for my South African trips.
The camp is located in a wonderful setting that is beautiful, inviting and comfortable. I have stayed in 3 of the tents and they are always super comfortable and set up very nice. These tents not roughing it at all, and in fact are the best part of my stay there! What I like best is being able to listen to the most amazing things at night! That's the beauty of a tent setup, you get to hear the bush all around you with owl calls, bat pings, hyena whoops and hippos grunting.
The meals we had during my last trip were frankly the best of all the lodges we visited. I appreciated and enjoyed the quality and variety of cuisine presented. The breakfast yogurt trifle has always been delicious... so much so that it inspired me to replicate it upon coming home after my first stay.

I also think the properties we visit on drives are stellar. Yes, you'll have lots of wonderful wildlife sightings on every drive! But what you also get to see is a great variety of terrain and landscape. You'll drive through vast, seemingly untouched hills that go on forever, rocky hilltops that let you see everything for miles, you’ll dip into unique drainages and pass along a verdant river rich with all kinds of life. This is all done pretty much with the whole property to yourself! With that much area to traverse, you’ll be sure to see something unique and special.
On one of our stays we were also given the opportunity to get out of the vehicle and track lions on foot. Hiking a bit and passing over the land while walking was really nice.

The guides are always very knowledgeable and keen to share interesting facts with you. Whether it’s your first trip or your fifth, you’ll have lots of nice conversations about what you’re seeing and experiencing.

The friendly lodge staff is brilliant in anticipating what you need before you even have to ask. They excel at what they do to make your stay at camp comfortable. You’ll feel extremely well taken care of.
