I stayed at 7 different hotels on 4 different islands during my recent stay, 3 different hotels in Bora Bora alone including the Intercontinental Bora Bora. With that in mind, I LOVED the Royal. It had this perfect almost old timey picture perfect French Polynesia vibe that I didn’t find at any other hotel. A lot of it is thanks to the amazing staff. They are SO friendly here and make you feel truly welcome. Also the location is great as it’s close to Matira beach, you can rent a bike from the hotel to go exploring. The hotel beach is fantastic as well with better snorkeling than the intercontinental - but you will lose the sun around 4pm. At which point you could chase the sun to Matira beach to watch the sunset but unfortunately they request all the rentals to be returned by 5p (which is before sunset). Everything is very clean and staff is constantly working on cleaning. It’s a good amount of guests - there were always enough beach chairs. Since they have a boat dock you can get picked up directly for tours. The food and presentation of the food is amazing. I was lazy and always ate at the hotels I stayed at and always ate fish…in comparison, it was the best at Royal. But there is also a little shop just a few minutes away if you want to stock your fridge. The breakfast buffet was amazing. I was here 3 nights and it felt like a week, that’s how relaxed I got. Only reasons I didn’t give 5 stars: - They don’t have any ocean view rooms. The buildings with the guest rooms are across the street so it’s a bit of a walk to get from the beach to your room. - I had booked through Hotels.com and got 4000xpf/night resort credit. Other hotels let me use that credit towards food/drinks so I was expecting that but here I could only use it towards bike/snorkel(had my own)/kayak rentals so I thought that was misleading

POSITIVES One of the cheaper hotels in Bora Bora. Breakfast attempted to offer a good range of food - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, french toast, fruit (although the plates were often empty and had to pester staff for them to re-fill the plates). Nice view of the beach from the breakfast area. Air conditioning worked well in our room. Quiet rooms. Nice small beach area with towels and sun-beds available for guests to use. They offered a shuttle bus service to Vaitape for departure to the airport for a 34 usd for 2 people. Just a 10 minute walk to the Intercontinental Le Moana from which you can take a shuttle to Intercontinental Thalasso for a day pass. NEGATIVES Still relatively expensive for what it offers. The rooms are outdated and there was an extremely bad smell in the room on our arrival. At breakfast we had to constantly ask staff to bring out more food as often there were just empty dishes. Some of the staff don't even speak English. The price of taxi from the hotel is very expensive (to go anywhere else). The rooms are across the road from the hotel / beach. During check out the lady at the front desk wanted to charge us double the amount for city tax - so pay close attention to what they are asking you to pay!

Dear guest, Thank you for your review. The rooms were entirely renovated in 2019. regarding the smell in your room, we recommend to dial 500 from your room to reach the frontdesk for any inconvenience met during your stay. At least, regarding city tax, 200cfp per person, per day, please note that they are not part of the hotel charges but imposed by the municipality. We really hope to welcome you again soon. Warmest regards, Royal Bora Bora

Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights after a great stay at the intercontinental thallasso. We wanted to stay on the main island and get the feel for the island and we did. But I’m going to be completely honest with you. Coming from the overwater bungalows to the main island hotels is a Big difference but that’s kind of expected knowing some of the hotels are privately owned and not by a huge luxury branch but the pictures are not what you see when you get there. The water isn’t as nice, the beach area is super small unless you go to the public beach’s which you could walk a couple miles or rent a scooter(recommend the scooters) and the hotel restaurant isn’t that good. When I first arrived, I seen a couple there and the woman looked really unimpressed and unhappy but I’m guessing because he told her she was going to bora bora mad probably didn’t take her to the bungalows at Conrad or intercontinental. So what I’m saying is this, Fellas… if you’re trying to impress your girl and want to give her a “luxury” bora bora experience, intercontinental thalasso is what you want and not the hotels kn the main island. Don’t waste your money or time taking her here unless, she’s a super down to earth girl who likes adventure, wild dogs walking around, back packing and eating very little lol. I’m just being honest but if you want to go to bora bora and just want to get there on a budget and want a clean spot to sleep with cold a/c and wifi, this is the spot. But beware the restaurant attached to the hotel. I had a burger fries and a mixed mango margarita and idk which killed my stomach but the next two days was a problem and the closest pharmacy is around the island which you should rent a scooter to get to. But overall the hotel is decent, 6/10 and that’s because it’s bora bora. Wild dogs walk around but they didn’t mess with me, the mosquitoes are killer and it gets hot at night on the island lol fellas do your research on the spots and your girl before going to islands like this but I Highly recommend the intercontinental thalasso overwater bungalow with the pool. It costs but man is it worth it, I could’ve died out there and would’ve been okay. No cap!

Dear guest, Royal Bora Bora is a 3 star hotel and the one you are comparing the hotel with is a 5 star. The price for an overwater bungalow with a pool in Bora Botra is at least 5 times the price you have paid your standard room at the Royal Bora Bora, no comparison can be done... Regarding partner's choice, it is a very personal... Warmest regards, Royal Bora Bora

We had booked the Royal Bora Bora because it is very nice on the beach and has a swimming pool. Now we were assigned another hotel and had to walk there every day. However, it is unacceptable that we were only told on site that the hotel was closed for 10 days due to water damage. When we checked out, we did not receive a receipt because the hotel we had to take was not responsible. We only had to present and sign our credit card without a copy of what we paid. It is unacceptable that Booking.com did not inform us where we would end up and our family does not know either. We demand a proper refund. If this is the new way they handle it and just assign a hotel as they see fit, there is no point for us to book with Booking.com anymore. We try hard to choose the right hotel and it was wasted effort. Anyway, we don't like the fact that when we book through Booking.com, we don't get points and upgrades with the Bonvoy bonus program, as we did recently in Abu Dhabi and Oman. So it has no benefits for us anymore, unfortunately as a very good customer. We are disappointed.

Dear guest, The hotel has experienced power issues at the beginning of March during your stay that are now completely solved. Unfortunately we had to close the hotel and relocate our customers to the hotel next door while they were still welcome to come and enjoy the Royal Bora Bora swimming pool and private beach front. Our sincere apologies for not being able to make you experience our resort. Warmest regards, Royal Bora Bora

We stayed 3 nights @ the Hotel Royal Bora Bora during our trip to Bora Bora. We had a wonderful time! The grounds are beautifully maintained and the rooms are newly renovated and very clean. The staff was very friendly and welcoming! We had a delicious buffet breakfast daily (try the omelet!) in the open air restaurant located on the beach. We also tried dinner one night and it was very good. We also enjoyed having dinner @ Bora Bora Beach Club and Bora Bora Yacht Club (beautiful sunset!) We definitely recommend Hotel Royal Bora Bora and cannot wait to return to BEAUTIFUL BORA BORA!!!

Such a great option to stay at the main island in Bora Bora. People are so friendly and helpful, everything is so well organized, they help you coordinate even with the tours they don't sell directly, so helpful for our first time there as we didn't know how to get anywhere.

This was our third visit to Bora Bora and we wanted to find a clean, comfortable and friendly lodging that isn’t crazy expensive. This Royal Bora Bora was perfect for us. We loved our stay here: beautiful room with all the amenities we wanted: fast WiFi, hot water, comfortable bed and pillows, refrigerator, nice veranda, beautiful pool and patio areas and a fabulous beach with lots of beach furniture. The staff is 100% friendly and always ready to assist. This lodging is close to a market and just a nice walk from several excellent restaurants. The restaurant at the hotel is also great. Breakfast was ample but you may need to ask for additional fruit and the chocolate croissants disappear quickly! Our favorite scuba shop Eleuthera Dive is just a few minutes away and they picked us up and dropped us off after each day of diving. Relaxing on the lovely beach was perfect every day after our diving or activities. With four large suitcases we should have used the hotel shuttle from the Air Tahiti ferry…the Taxi charged us $35 USD one way for the ride and for each suitcase so the cost was the same. Some travelers previously suggested this would save some funds using a taxi…this was not our experience. We will definitely be back!

We did not need to stay in an over priced over the water bungalow...finding Royal Bora Bora was perfect. What a hidden gem. Our room was spacious and sparkling clean with a garden view. The breakfast was amazing, as was the pool and the beautiful beach in front of the hotel. Staff was great. We definitely would stay here again.

We booked this resort for the first half of our 25th wedding anniversary in Bora Bora. We are staying at the Royal Bora Bora for five nights and then will switch to the Bora Bora Le Pearl overwater bungalow for four nights because the overwater bungalow is our dream. This is my husband (66M) and my (48F) second time to French Polynesia. Our first time was in 2007 where we spent two nights at Tahiti Intercontinental, then a 10 night cruise on Princess then 3 nights at Moorea Intercontinental. We booked the Royal for its proximity to town, location next to a supermarket, proximity to the best beach in Bora Bora and its own beach, pool, dinning. We are actually doing our vow renewal at the Royal Bora Bora in lieu of the Pearl. The staff here are amazing! They greet us by name. The breakfast was really good with fresh juices and made to order onlettes and eggs. The beach here is fantastic - gradual entrance into the water and not to shallow like many places in Bora Bora. Drinks and food are reasonably priced (about half what you would expect at the overwater bungalow resorts. Ill update more later. The room is spotless and large. There are no bugs or sand problems. The air conditioner works well enough. I think we are able to get our room to about 21-22C. I would not hesitate to recommend this room. It's one of the best South Pacific properties we have ever stayed. The resort is new - I think they ipened just prior to COVID. This resort is also walking distance to Maitra Beach! Do not hesitate to book this one.

Royal Bora Bora was my favorite of the 4 hotels I stayed at in French Polynesia (which included the far more expensive Sofitel Moorea). From the moment I arrived the staff at Royal Bora Bora made me feel welcome and bent over backwards to ensure my comfort and optimize my time there. For example, on my last day there my shuttle to the airport was at 4:30, but my check-out was at 11AM. I asked reception if I should book extra time in my room, because I didn't fancy the idea of hanging around waiting for 5 hours in the lobby. The wonderful woman at reception suggested I not waste my money to stay longer in my room, but instead make use of the hotel facilities for the extra time -- that they would store my baggage and I could spend my extra time enjoying their beach and pool, and use the shower they have in one of the toilettes off their lobby if I wanted to freshen up before I left. Those 5 hours proved to be the most relaxing and blissful of my whole stay in French Polynesia. And even though I'd officially checked out, the staff continued to take care of me like I was a family member. There were complaints in the last couple of reviews about security and $ issues. Travelers to FP should realize the hotels have been undergoing major changes since the pandemic. Some have closed down completely -- like Sofitel Bora Bora. Others have had major staff changes. Sofitel Moorea was clearly having some issues -- they refused to let me check in even 30 minutes early (despite the fact that they weren't exactly overrun with guests), and some of their bungalows were clearly in a state of disrepair. But Royal Bora Bora at this point is running beautifully, and their security seems very tight -- there were friendly security guys roaming the grounds at all hours. Other notes -- the photos of the rooms at the Royal Bora Bora don't do the place justice. The rooms are in fact mini-bungalows, extremely clean and well-appointed, with a beautiful garden outside. And wonderfully quiet! I was able to sleep through the night here for the first time in FP because I wasn't woken by roosters at 4AM! As for the restaurant -- the breakfast buffet (included in my room price) is wonderful and the other meals were also quite good, and not expensive by FP standards. Thanks in particular to Tea for running the restaurant so well and Lita (spelling correct?) for being an awesome bartender/waitress. There is good snorkeling right off the hotel beach, a lovely hotel pool, and wonderful views and ambience throughout the premises. There is also a very well-stocked market just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Thank you, Royal Bora Bora, for one of the best vacation experiences of my life!
