Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge is often lauded for its warm atmosphere, particularly the grand lobby and scenic views, though some visitors find the room offerings to be rather plain. The cleanliness of the lodge consistently earns high marks, with spotless rooms and well-kept grounds. While the location is celebrated for its beauty and proximity to attractions, guests' opinions are divided on the rooms, citing comfort issues and maintenance concerns. Service quality appears to fluctuate, with praise for amenities like shuttles, tempered by reports of poor communication. The lodge's pricing, including meals and services, is considered steep by many.

The lodge sits on an unbeatable location and is mere minutes from the two main flight seeing companies in Talkeetna, which was our primary reason for staying here. We have been on a road trip in Alaska and wanted a night out from the RV to stretch a bit. The lobby and deck are definitely the visual highlights of the lodge, although the iconic view of the mountain range was occluded by smoke/haze from wildfires during our visit. Our room (king Mountain View) was spacious with a comfortable bed. The furniture was a bit dated, but still I fair condition. The room aesthetic is pretty minimalistic. The breakfast buffet in the dining room was comparable to a mid range hotel, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the $26. But dinner at the Base Camp Bistro was the star of the show. Of note, the kitchen was a bit backed up the night we dined, but we enjoyed our drinks on the deck while waiting for our food. The reindeer bolognese and the halibut were both excellent. Staff was very friendly throughout.

Thank you for the review! I agree, the fires have made things a bit smoky, but fortunately it didn't linger too long this time. So happy to hear that you got to take advantage of our great viewing decks, wonderful drinks from the Base Camp Bar, good food and good company!

We visited the Lodge on 31 August and were so pleased to see that the Lodge was taking the virus crisis very seriously. In advance of our arrival, the Lodge informed us of how service would be provided; the request to wear masks, etc. They made a big effort to reduce the contact points in the room. They eliminated contact between housekeeping staff and guests.
The room itself was spacious; there was a fridge and a TV. Free wi-fi, of course. coffeemaker, When we needed a restaurant menu and a box of tissues, the staff immediately delivered them to our room.
The rainy weather was a disappointment but out of everyone's control.

We were only staying one night in town but visited the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge for the view and a drink on the north side deck after exploring this quaint little town. We were totally blown away by the beautiful panoramic view from the deck, and extended our stay an extra night. This lodge is 1st class, as are the staff and the food. We enjoyed a north-side, top floor room with a view towards Mt. Denali. The beds are very comfortable, rooms are spacious and quiet, and hot water is instantly available. We took advantage of the (very clean) laundry room and enjoyed excellent freshly made wraps for breakfast. This was one of our very best stops in our 10 day tour of Alaska!

Haven’t been here in awhile and figured a weekend getaway would be nice. Their website is covered in them talking about safety and social distancing. Arrived and it was anything but. The staff all had masks but only a small few guests wore masks and social distanced while everyone else ran rampant. No one ever said anything to them either and they just let it happen. Now on to the room. I stayed in a King Suite because it was only a night and it was only $10 more than the smallest suite. The view was fantastic I will admit. The building and rooms are quite noisy. The bathroom doors slam hard with just the slightest touch. They also shake when they’re closed so when we went to bed we decided to keep them open but still somehow the doors were making noise no idea how but heard noises all night. On to the kitchenette...it had a basic fridge and microwave. The fridge freezer combo couldn’t even freeze drinks so don’t rely on that for your stay if you need something frozen. Cheap material in the kitchen. Some cutlery and plates available. The living area had a couch and a chair. The couch was very uncomfortable to the point we couldn’t even sit in it. The TV in the living room and bedroom had basic cable with the static lines going across the whole time so couldn’t really watch anything. The Wifi wouldn’t even stay connected so you only can rely on the view for entertainment. The room was very warm. No option to adjust the thermostat. We left the windows open all night and the fan on and it was still too warm in there. The bathroom was big but they didn’t do much with it. The shower was small and the shower head was alright not a lot of water pressure. It had a jacuzzi tub which we took advantage of but regretted because as we got in we noticed some odd bubbles not from the jacuzzi like a film of some sort and black stuff floating in the water. Also apparently just from us filling the tub and draining it caused the room below us to have water drip from their ceiling. The sink handles weren’t even put on right which you can see in the pictures provided and the vent in the bathroom doesn’t look like it’s been dusted in years. The restaurant was fantastic! They made the experience wonderful! My significant other had many good allergies and the chef put something together for her so she didn’t just have to have a salad. Very impressed! The staff were helpful and kind in all of my experience just the hotel itself lacked heavily. Next time I go to Talkeetna it’ll just be for the day rather than the night.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us. It is our hope that every guest leaves us having felt relaxed and excited about their stay. Please know we are extremely determined to upholding the highest possible covid safety at our hotel. As you mentioned as a company we have all of our employees wear a mask but unfortunately as a business operating in a small unincorporated village we can not force a guest to put on a mask. We have signage all over the lodge suggesting it but until the state makes a law mandating it state wide, we can only suggest the use. It is the choice of each individual whether they put one on or not. In addition to all employees wearing a mask, we have let all of our rooms sit for three days between guests staying in them. This has cost the lodge much revenue but we find it more important to make sure our guests are safe than sacrifice your safety for a little extra money. We have also taken all touch points out of the room and sanitize all public areas every hour. We have spaced out the restaurant, put up glass at check in and made countless changes to ensure your safety. We have honestly gotten nothing but incredible feedback about our covid safety all summer and I would consider it anything but rampant here at the lodge. The room in which you stayed in is the nicest room we have at the lodge and is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The couch that you hated so much is brand new as is all the furniture in the room. Im very sorry to hear that you disliked it so much. In regards to other things in the room, The heat is controlled by the thermostat on the wall however it is radiant in floor heating and often takes a while to cool down. Maintenance has looked into the water leak and found there to be no problems with the plumbing but discovered many soaked towels left in the room perhaps indicating an overflow. The doors are indeed heavy but they are fire doors to prevent the spread of a fire should it happen as per the fire code in remote Alaska. We are continually working hard to get better wifi but unlike the hard wired internet and cable in Anchorage, we rely on satellites for most of our communications. This can cause spotty reception at times in remote Alaska. Something that we have had to learn to deal with as a result of living in this part of the world. Typically not a problem as most of our guests are out enjoying the area rather than in the rooms. Again we are sincerely sorry to hear about the issues you had here. We hope you have a wonderful rest of your summer and have a safe winter.

Great staff, great views, a very exciting resort. In my opinion the dollar value didn't meet up with my expectations. I paid $475/nt for a mountain view room. The view was spectacular the amenities are lacking. I'm 69, my idea of a vacation is comfort. and although the lodge is quite comfortable the rooms aren't. After a few hours of activity my wife and I like to rest or take a nap. The desk chairs in the room are uncomfortable and small. I'm, 6'1 270, which brings me to my next problem. The toilets throughout the 400 room lodge sit 10 inches of the floor and the toilet seat is used for children. It's a challenge for a man my size and smaller to sit on the toilet to do what we supposed to do. it's a childs seat. Lets just say I found it very difficult. I had to use the bathroom door handle to lower me down and grab it to get up. When I inquired about moving to another room I was told all the rooms are like that except for the handicapped rooms. That's your answer, they're all like that, then she said you're not the only one that has complained! So then what are you doing about it? I don't know. Secondly when mymwife and I get tired we like to rest in the perivacy of our room. I put the tv on and the figures are fuzzy not sharp and clear, so I check my glasses, they're fine. then I realize the channels are in digital not HD! $475/nt, digital? this is not a top notch lodge, well it might be but not for me, you can look at a mountain for only so long then you do something else, Right? Sports on Tv, documentary, food channels. We all have favorites and while we're watching our favorites you're squinting to sharpen the image. I wonder if the lodge will even care. I do represent a majority of thier customers in our age bracket. The lodge provides many things but my requests is to improve the lodge experience.

For a $400 a night room would have expected the room’s amenities to be of a higher quality. Items like hand soap were tiny. No shower caps. Toilet paper roll was almost out when arriving with new roll on back of toilet bowl for guest to change out. No writing materials or guides which assume were all on line. Cleaning cart outside my room at 9:00 having to navigate around it before 11:00 check out time. Washer and dryer were pay only. The overall experience seemed tacky since new management arrived. Don’t mind paying the price but except better accommodations.

We had a large Mountain View room and exceptional weather allowing expansive views of the Denali range. Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend the hotel for this reason. The Foraker dining room is closed until further notice (understaffed). The Bistro is open but overwhelmed and the food is underwhelming and overcooked. The breakfast buffet consisting of powdered scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon $28. The shuttle does not start running into town until 10 am and stops running at 5:45 pm. Unless you can walk the 2 miles into town and back you are stuck. The saving grace is a Mt Hunter coffee bar in the lobby that is open at 7 am.

The Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge need employees to open the restaurant, provide breakfast and have daily maid service. It is a beautiful property but they are slammed with all of the bus trips going in and out. They don't have the help they need to provide the level of service that is required at a property of this sort.

Our family stayed at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and had a Mountain View room. The views were jaw dropping beautiful. It is in a wonderful location on a ridge overlooking Talkeetna so that you can see Denali and the entire mountain range it is a part of. It’s a quick trip into Talkeetna which is a wonderful village and worth the time to explore the shops and food. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The lobby is lovely with a large fireplace and plenty of seating. There are even rocking chairs in the window overlooking the views. I would return to stay at this lodge without any hesitation. There are also washer and dryers, ice machines, and a microwave in the vending areas if needed. A nice sized small fridge was in the room with a coffee maker. We were impressed with the thought put into taking care of the guests needs. Very impressed!

Stayed here 2 nights with an Insight Tour. Stayed in the "cabins" separate from the lodge. Room spacious and clean. Very small sink/counter space. Great internet and comfortable bed.

Food is fine but nothing spectacular. Only one of the restaurants open during our visit and it was pretty pricey (small salmon piece with mashed potatoes & a few asparagus spears at $38.) and very crowded. Breakfast was included with our tour but if not included is $26 plus gratuity for eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage, yogurt, tangerines in a bowl. Be aware - no toast or bread of any kind is served at dinner or breakfast. Not sure why but when requested was just told "no". Restaurant and bar open at 5 pm. No bar beverages available before 5 pm and no lunch served.

Beautiful deck and views of Denali when she peaks out. Would be nice to sit out with a glass of wine around 4 after a day of activity. Lovely lobby with 2 story fireplace. Again a nice spot to relax with wine or a cocktail if one were available.

As at most of our stops on this tour, the underlying labor shortages in Alaska due to worldwide Covid restricted travel for the usual influx of summer workers has affected many venues' ability to be open and staffed. Alaska put out the word to encourage travelers and travelers responded but many restaurants and attractions have very limited hours or have had to close completely for lack of workers.
