Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our rooms were spacious, beautiful and very comfortable. The beds were so comfortable that we all overslept. The bathroom was very well-equipped and sparkling clean. There is a lovely comfortable lounge available for your use with refreshments and a library. There were fresh flowers in every room. In the morning, Trish made a fantastic breakfast for us that my nephews are still talking about. Everything about our stay was lovely. Trish and John were wonderful hosts and very helpful to us with recommendations.

We were given this B & B at the information centre in Geraldine. We hadn't thought of stopping in Timaru but are so pleased we did. This is a very hospitable B & B. We found the house a short distance from SH1 and arrived at the requested time to a very friendly welcome from Trish and were shown to a lovely room and en suite. We enjoyed tea in the small guest lounge and then on Trish's recommendation a meal at the nearby Vista restaurant. We went on our way south feeling full of the joys after an excellent breakfast made better for being shared with good people from Holland.

We got off to a bad start with the note on the door requesting us to phone Trish's cellphone which was never responded to. We were anxious to meet with old friends from over 50 years ago, and were not impressed to eventually find the hosts in the house throughout our wait for access. We were then requested to remove our footwear to take our bags to the upstairs bedroom, as this was the imposed 'homestay rule' whenever we went upstairs - the first time we have been requested this in >1,500 accommodation stays around the world! The positives were the good location, the good breakfasts and the reliable WIFI, but the barely adequate room facilities, the uncomfortable bed, and evidence of dust on the wooden surrounds unfortunately detracted from our overall experience.

My partner had stayed here on a previous visit and wanted me to experience Sefton Homestay when I visited Timaru. This town is situated half way between Christchurch and Dunedin. We stayed here for two nights and I understand his enthusiasm. Trish and John couldn't be more welcoming. The home itself is charming, set in a quiet area with a beautiful garden. Our room (the blue room), which was very clean and comfortable as was the rest of the home, had an ensuite. The bed was wonderful for a great night's sleep. The fresh flowers in our room were a lovely touch. We enjoyed excellent breakfasts and friendly conversation from our hosts. Sefton Homestay has two rooms available one with an ensuite and the other with a separate bathroom. Both bedrooms are lovely and the bathroom for the other room is spacious and quite lovely. Sefton Homestay is situated within walking distance from Timaru township and Trish and John were only too happy to offer suggestions as to the local sights. Restaurants are within walking distance. Well worth a visit.

A night in Timaru enroute from Dunedin to Methven was taken at the Sefton which was an ideal staging post. It is a private house located within an easy walk of the town and is close to reasonable restaurants. Excellent breakfast made a good start to the next day.

We stayed here for one night on our way back to Christchurch and were so pleased we had selected Sefton. We stayed in the blue room with the en suite and found it very comfortable, lovely bed and shower room, Trish and John have obviously considered travellers needs and are very friendly and accommodating with info on local amenities and restaurants. It's only a short walk to the town and is in a quiet location. Amazing breakfast set is up well for the day, beautifully cooked and served in the stylish dining room. A lovely finale to our tour of New Zealand!

My mother and I recently stayed at Timaru for two nights and we were delighted we decided to book Sefton Homestay. The home couldn't be cleaner and the fresh flowers in our room and bathroom contributed to the overall agreeable ambience. Bathrobes were provided and night-lights and torches assisted accessing our huge private bathroom located across the hall. Breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. We really appreciated the adivice from Trish that we visit Mt John Observatory passing through Lake Tekapo on our day trip to Mount Cook National Park. It was well worth the visit and we would have missed it without the tip.

We were so lucky to have booked this as our first night in New Zealand. This Arts and Crafts house is gorgeous. Trish and John are delightful hosts and have thought of everything a long distance traveller might need. The guest lounge included all drinks, biscuits, water, milk and even sherry! The bedroom was comfortable and toiletries provided. Trish even helped by putting a washing load through for us. The breakfast was fresh and plentiful. We strolled down to Zest for supper which was excellent especially for me to be able to have gluten free pizza! A great stay.

If only all B&B were like this! This place is outstanding, without doubt the best we have ever stayed at anywhere. The house itself is beautiful, the room great inc bathrobes, the bathroom pure luxury. The upstairs guest lounge was packed with all beverages anyone could need inc biscuits etc. I defy anyone to get a nicer place than this. The breakfast was not only plentiful and tasty but also really nicely laid out. The owners were really friendly. Without doubt if I visit NZ again I def will book here.
