Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay he never New Year was just incredibly relaxing and made all the better by Elaine's welcoming and helpful approach to everything. Although a little out of town it's n easy drive in (sealed roads) and the mountain views are fabulous. Breakfast was a real treat - lunch really wasn't an option after it.

Elaine was a perfect host in every way and made you feel very welcome. The bungalow was very spacious and had amazing views when you were having breakfast. Our room was fabulous, huge bathroom, comfy beds and beautifully furnished. The breakfast was superb, full English, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, ham, tomatoes, home made jams and plenty of ciabatta toast. There was a fridge in our room and tea and coffee facilities. I would go back in a heartbeat.

First thing make sure you come up Rolling Ridges Road at Pleasant Point otherwise you will hit a gravel road if you take the Sutherland’s Road. The picture of the house and the mountains is not real- Mt Cook is many miles away and cannot be seen as close as the photo. Having said that Elaine is a wonderful host and the house is modern and well appointed with extremely clean bedrooms and bathrooms . The house sits nicely high on a hill over looking distant views of Timaru and rolling paddocks with sheep and cattle. Elaine supplies a lovely cooked or contential breakfast. Nice place to stay after long drive from Mt Cook. .

“After a peaceful night what a beautiful scenery we faced as we stepped out of the house to find our way around. On top of the hill, pure air, serenity guaranty. Location, price is not enough for a good stay, we loved the personality of Elaine, she is a remarquable host and she was ready to do what ever was necessary to us to feel well at her home. Discussion with her was very interesting, nothing coming from her was superficial. We took a picture with her, my wife and me, it will be part of our travelling special good memories. And what a breakfast!! Elaine put the best she had available on the table. If she read this: thank you Elaine from our heart.”

We received the warmest welcome at Solace. Elaine is a perfect host, the rooms are comfortable, absolutely spotless, and decorated with taste. The views are breathtaking, with rolling hills stretching to the sea or the mountains on the horizon. We had a delicious breakfast and really enjoyed the pleasant conversation with our host. Thank you Elaine!

Stayed for one night at this wonderful B&B above Timaru. Although we were walk-ins, and quite late at that, Elaine's welcome was gracious and genuinely warm, and the room was spotless and really thoughtfully decorated and equipped. We woke to an awesome view and huge, delicious breakfast. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed one night here on our way home from Ed Sheeran in Dunedin, a great place to stop and simply be. Elaine is a great host, she made Greek Easter Bread as part of our breakfast. The room was cosy and we slept extremely well. The views are great, the sea one side and mountains the other, we could watch the full moon rising and sun setting at the same time. The sunrise also put on a great show for us, all topped off with a rainbow. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone wanting a welcome break on a long drive.

Four of us stayed for 2 nights at this marvelous B&b at the start of of South Island tour mid Oct 2017. We are most impressed by the wonderful host, Elaine who made our stay a most memorable and happy experience. She is a wonderful host and her units are clean, spacious, comfortable. We love the view of Southern Alps from the house. The place is easy to find with GPS and Timaru is a good spot to start your South Island trip and it is only around 2-3 drive from Christchurch. Thank you Elaine!
