We stayed here for one night towards the end of a recent South Island road trip.

I phoned and made a booking a couple of days before we stayed, requesting a studio unit with a king bed, and ground floor access (I am not too steady on my feet and find it easier to have few or no stairs).

We arrived just before 2pm, I’d phoned to make sure the room was ready. The gentleman at reception was very nice and showed my husband the studio unit, which had 8 stairs up to it – the section that the motel is built on slopes so most units have some stairs to a greater or lesser degree.

The proprietor then offered us a two bedroom unit, with only two stairs to get to it, for the same price. We were very grateful, that was a lovely offer and we took it, as it was much easier for me.

The unit (number 8) is very well appointed and though it was a cold evening it heated up really quickly once we’d turned the heater on. There is a full sized stove so you can cook full meals if you wish. There’s a dining table and chairs, and a couch. There’s also a single bed in the lounge area. There is a King bed in one bedroom, and a double (might be a Queen?) and a single in the second bedroom.

The bathroom is very roomy. The shower was very good, great pressure. There is also a spa bath in the bathroom. There is also proper MySky so you can record channels of your choice if you wish.

Everything in our unit was very clean.

There is a bit of road noise but since it’s on SH1 that is only to be expected. It certainly didn’t stop us from getting a good night’s sleep – we both slept very well.

There is a Pak’n Save supermarket, a petrol station, and various eateries (McDonald’s, KFC among others) a very short distance along the road.

Thank you to the Parklands Motor Lodge for making our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend this accommodation.

Extremely good value and easy to find as it is on the main State Highway number 1 as you come into Timaru.
We were upgraded to a one bedroom room, which had been upgraded (no. 5) with new carpet and curtains and a nice bathroom. The bath was lovely and I had a good soak here! Poor Wi-Fi signal, had to hotspot off our phone. The down load speed was only 10mbps which isn't great. However, for what we paid, we were pleased as it was well equipped and the heater took the chill off the room quickly.

Room Tip: We had number 5 which was set back from the road. Ask for a quiet room if you are a poor sleeper

Spotlessly clean, this motel has almost everything. The rooms are spacious. It is very comfortable (nice big bed) and extremely well-equipped with many thoughtful touches. It is also very ecological. Hosts John and Beth are pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.

Stayed here 4 nights- quite comfortable. Restaurant was very good. French coffee press with coffee and milk in room (yeah!). Friendly staff. No AC (and it was hot when got there)- but had fans. Free WiFi in room. Self laundry facilities- which as hikers we appreciated! Only negative- shower was not great (fine line between freezing and scalding), but got the hang of it.

We stayed at the Parklands Motor Lodge at Timaru for one night. The owner was ever so helpful, giving us advice on shopping, dining and how to get to the nearby beach.
The Motel was an older style but really clean and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet.
Great place to stay!

We stayed here in January 2018 on our way to Dunedin. We were so impressed, we stayed again on the way back to Christchurch.we spent 2 months traveling in NZ and OZ. This was by far the best place we stayed for comfort and value.
Immaculate spacious rooms, with full kitchen, even in studios. Bathrooms have spa baths and shower cubicle. Plenty of storage. Beach towels are provided free. Lovely owners, Beth and John, can't do enough for you.
We will be back next time we are in NZ

This is a single level motel with convenient car parking out the front of the unit. The complex is not new, but appears to have been renovated not to long ago. Our room had a small kitchenette with the basics tea coffee making facilities. In keeping with most motels in Timaru it is on the main road and so there is road noise. Whilst this was noticeable, but not unbearable during the evening, it did not impact on getting to sleep or sleeping through the night. We did find that the room was a little on the cold side, despite the room heater. It was clean, tidy and had free wifi. The staff, although not the owners, were helpful and friendly. Overall for an overnight stop and for the price it was good value.

The motel is clean and comfortable. The service, though was excellent. The owners were friendly, helpful and really welcoming. There was free paytv and wifi as well.

The kitchen is well stocked. There's an oven as well as a microwave if you want to totally self cater, with a large grocery store within walking distance. A few restaurants closeby as well - fast food too!
