We stayed at Lake Hood Homestay B&B on our last night in New Zealand after an enjoyable three week tour. We did not know what to expect from the description but we were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful home on a man made lake and canal system. We were made very welcome by Eleanor and Eric and greeted with tea and cakes. Our room was very comfortable and with a view of the water it rivalled any five star hotel experience. We had a lovely dinner at the friendly local restaurant on the lake. A first class breakfast was cooked by Eric and we were sorry that we could only stay one night. I would heartily recommend a stay here on the way to or from Christchurch.

Booked 1 nt here for both rooms for 3 people. From the moment we arrived Eleanor and Eric were attentive and personable. Nibbles and a drink were very welcome after a lot of driving that day and we were invited to a drink before we went out as well. Made to feel very comfortable from the outset. Both rooms are equally well appointed clean an comfortable (homemade biscuits were super yum which my father in law devoured!)
It is a little way from the main town of Ashburton but thats not a bad thing and it was lovely and quiet. Breakfast was also lovely and we didnt want for anything.
A really great stay with some lovely folks!

First time staying in a B&B for both my parents and my husband and I.
We could not have been happier, Eric and Eleanor are so friendly and made us feel so welcome. The fingerfood and drinks were perfect and such a lovely touch - we're still going on how nice the Christmas cake was too!
Our highlight was the yacht ride to the restaurant. Was perfect - and we felt like royalty!
Breakfast the next morning was top notch too.
Clean, tidy, modern, comfy and extremely friendly hosts - what more could you ask for?
We absolutely loved the weekend thank you so much!

We had the pleasure of staying at Lake Hood Homestay in March 2011, for one evening, as we made our way driving around the South Island for 2 weeks. We had originally booked a night in Christchurch, but the earthquake changed our plans. At the last minute, we rang to see if a bed would be available at Lake Hood. Fortunately for us, Eric was able to confirm that there was, and we had one of the most pleasant experiences of our trip.

Eric and Eleanor are wonderful hosts, and ideal people for this job. They really enjoy the company of people and make you feel so welcome. We were greeted with afternoon tea, and shown to a very comfortable room at the front of the house. The view of the canal at the front of the house is lovely. We made our way to the restaurant on the lake and had what we considered to be the best meal of our travels. It was just delicious, the service was very good, and the surroundings were beautiful.

Upon our return, Steve and I chatted to Eleanor for quite some time (Eric was out at a meeting) and we felt like welcome friends in their lounge. Eric cooked us a delicious breakfast the next morning, as Eleanor was relief teaching that day, and we all sat down together to eat. Once again, we felt like friends rather than paying guests.

Eric and Eleanor are a delightful couple who are authentic, genuine people. It was an absolute pleasure to meet them and stay in their beautiful home.

Arrived late afternoon on our final day of vacation. Accomodations are clean, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. Eleanor and Eric are wonderful hosts that go the extra mile in making sure you feel comfortable. Definately follow their recommedations of eating at the restaurant across the lake. Very good dinner! Could not of thought of a better way than to spend our last night in New Zealand. Thank you Eleanor and Eric.

I never knew of Lake Hood, well other than there is a mini Iron Man event there this year. I googled Lakehood and found this gorgeous B & B. Booked in for one night for our 9 year anniversary, asked for early check in (normally 2pm) and that as ok, we arrived 1pm. Lovely welcome by Eric & Eleanor - cheese, crackers, fruit juice and had a chat.
In our gorgeous room was some fruit, fruitcake and also tea/coffee facilities. Comfy bed & pillows. Delicious body wash! View from the room & courtyard overlooking the canal, fantastic.
We went for a 1 hour kayak (you could go for as long or as short as you wanted). Such a peaceful, beautiful location. We had our own space, then met up with the hosts before heading out to dinner, we enjoyed a couple of wine and lovely snacks with them, we could’ve talked for hours but were booked in at the Lakehouse for dinner. I had one of the best meals ever at the Lakehouse, highly recommend! Eric cooked us a lovely breakfast. We ventured out in the very strong winds for a little bide ride. Many thanks Eric & Eleanor I will be recommending your B & B. Thanks Mel.

Approximately 1 plus hour south of Christchurch is a beautiful and newer area called Lake Hood. You will be very fortunate if you get to stay in 1 of the 2 lovely ensuite rooms offered by Eric & Eleanor Weir.Coffee, tea, snacks and use of a refrigerator are included in the reasonable rate. They are the nicest Hosts of a Homestay that the South Island is privledged to have as Residents. The Weirs cannot do enough for their Guests. You will enjoy yummy nibbles and lovely conversation with the Weirs upon arrival (if you choose to or privacy if you would prefer) and they will be more than happy to make reservations for you, share information about the area and the beautiful lake that the property overlooks with its wonderful amenities. Their Guests get to enjoy it all as well as a delightful Clubhouse for dining right in the immediate neighborhood.
After a good nights sleep, a wonderful breakfast with many choices to please everyone awaits your pleasure.
We love this place and THE MOST GRACIOUS HOSTS EVER!

We had a fantastic stay with Lake Hood Homestay, with the property being right on the water front, my husband and daughter enjoyed paddle boarding for the first time which was great fun! Our room was beautifully clean and modern with a lovely comfortable bed, to top it off we woke to fantastic water views! Eric and Eleanor are truly fantastic hosts, and exceeded all expectations with their overall hospitality and amazing cooked breakfast. We couldn’t find them via some of the larger booking sites, don’t let this put you off! the best method is to google them and simply call them directly.

This was a last minute get away from my flat that was having a new shower put in. When my partner and I arrived we were warmly greeted by Eleanor and Eric. They offered us wine and beer and we had a lovely chat with them in the garden.

There's a nice resturant within walking distance of the house.

The house itself is very clean and welcoming. The room was luxury and beautifully put together. In the morning Eleanor cooked a wonderful breakfast, so good we didn't have lunch later!

It was a perfect get away, thank you so much!
