A comfortable one night stay after stress-contending with traffic jams from up north. Check in was quick & easy and necessary to input the pin code for the electronic lock to enter the room. Tip - choose 4 numbers close together for faster access. The access pad is a round circle and sometimes difficult to input consecutive numbers quickly if on opposite sides of the circle. Inside is a separate King size bedroom and lounge/Kitchen of 1990s era which does look a bit tired but still tidy. Kitchen is well stocked but no dishwasher & seemed to be no dishwashing detergent. Ranchslider access to private courtyard was nice. Bedroom is nicely furnished but no heat pump so in winter, will need to leave the door open to get heat from the lounge. Conversely there's no openable windows so only solution is to leave the door open for fresh air. Bathroom is large with spa bath & spacious vanity however the bath doubles as a shower with high sides to clilmb over and no grabrails. For the elderly, its a serious hazard and a Health & Safety issue. Bath is slippery as well but luckily there was a non slip mat available. Heated towel rail was not working and ceiling fan struggling to extract the moist air. Sliding door does get stuck when closing. Points off for overall cleanliness with dust on headboard. Location is close to the beach although its not the main beach but shops and cafes are only 10 minutes walk.

We stayed in a one bedroom King Suite for just one night in November 2022. Good location close to the beach and main shops and restaurants.
Our room was very basic , lots of signs of wear and tear and smelt strongly of Asian food. The shower is in the spa bath and you have to climb over the side of the spa to access it which was quite unsafe. If you have mobility issues this would be impossible.
Looks good on the website but the hotel is old and overpriced. I would not stay here again.

A relaxing getaway from the city.
I have been to many hotels and motels in NZ. This is one of the best I have been. It is very spacious, tidy and clean. Bedroom and lounge is separated, there is also cooking facilities including the induction cooktop, microwave, toaster, kettle & a fridge for you to cook a simple meal. Nice view from the balcony. The room I stayed in has a spa pool, so you can relax and unwind. Staff are friendly and approachable . Overall, an amazing weekend for two. Would highly recommend this motel to any couple. :)

There is something romantic in folk lore concerning welcome to weary travellers. I arrived at Waves at 6.30pm (hardly the middle of the night) and a sign told me to ring a 'night manager' who could have been anywhere.
A big company who doesn't employ a welcomer doesn't deserve my custom.

We had a King Suite with Spa Bath. Was pretty spacious even with sofa bed being used in the lounge so generally a good size. Was still a bit cool at night so the heat pump came in handy.
Staff were friendly and helpful so check in was easy.
Waves is about 100m from beach access - not the main Orewa beach but still a nice part to walk along and for kids to play.
Is on the 'main' road but probably get less traffic on this road nowadays so was not noisy.
Is about 10-15 minute walk from town or 2-3 minute drive.
From what we could see Waves is a bit more modern than some of the other motels nearby.

We booked this last minute and it looked quite nice on the website. When we got there we found a very tired old room with a really dodgy wheelchair access shower that flooded the bathroom when you used it. Carpet was really old and the bedding was old and not nice crisp sheets like other places

The place was not clean. Sofa had never been moved to clean. UHT milk. No offer of fresh milk and no one in the office to ask. Remote for TV was out of batteries - no one in office to ask for new ones. Very expensive. There are no lifts to the second floor, and the stairs are outside .

Room was clean and tidy, but looking very tired. Usual facilities supplied.
Road frontage room suffered from traffic noise.
Reasonably handy to shopping and dining establishments.

Last minute stop at Waves Orewa a very pleasant surprise. Great room (King Studio) very comfy bed - best large bathroom with plenty of vanity space - well equiped. Walking distance to a beautiful beach (300 metres) and the most pleasant and helpful Manager. Was our last stop on our holiday and perfect way to finish!! Highly recommend!
