We had the two bedroom unit (for 4 friends) & it was perfect. One bedroom on one side - lounge/tv/kitchen/table & chairs in the middle - other bedroom on the other side. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen. Liked the private grassy area with table & chairs out the back door. Perfect location with beach across the road, restaurants just about next door, & supermarket very close. Absolutely no road noise. Only thing that could be improved/needs fixing is the internet access. There basically is none. You have to download an app, login & make up username etc, & then it looks like you have to credit card to use. We all said - NO THANKS. These days, it has to be easier, & free !

Recently changed owners but the service is just as good as suggested by the previous review.

Very comfortable wooden cabins with all the facilities you would expect and good value.

My husband, myself and our 23 year old son stayed at the orewa motor lodge for one night on our way to the bay of islands and coming from Tauranga. We loved Orewa for its neatness, well layed out paths along the beach and the proximity of restaurants and take aways. The motel was exactly what one would visualise a kiwi motel to be like. Clean, a well layed out kitchen with everything you could need, separate toilet and shower room. Loved the pine panelling. Wifi and sky tv available too. Didn't use the spa but it looked clean and inviting. Our son had a bed in the living area and we had a queen bed in our room. Would recommend to anyone starting a trip from auckland airport or, like ourselves, for a stay over after a few hours drive.

The rudest customer service I have ever received! I stayed here with my 83 year old mother when we were travelling from England to visit family. Unfortunately, we were appalled and offended by how we were treated by the lady on reception.

I politely asked how to lock the door to our room, as this wasn't a lock I've come across before (after being in the capentry trade for over 40 years) and her reaction was not only rude, she was extremely offensive and personal. I'm a recovering Stroke patient and explained that I find it hard to communicate, but rather than be supportive and patient with me, she just said offensive words including the phrase 'we have a name for your sort of people', but I left before allowing her to tell me what she calls 'us sort of people' as I already felt targeted. My mother is such a diplomatic lady and I've never known her to say a bad word about any one and even she was disgusted in this lady's behaviour. I can not believe she works in hospitality. The accommodation was fine, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to pay to stay somewhere that they will be treated this poorly.

Reading the comments suggests we aren't the only ones she has mistreated.

Good location right next to Orewa town centre.
Our two bedroom unit was tidy and contained everything expected in terms of furnishings.
Big negative was that there was no hot water from the shower or taps. Temperature would not go above lukewarm, making for uncomfortable showers. Did not warm up at all by the time we left in the morning.

We find the hot water issue a little strange as this suite has been full all of March and no one has raised this with us. All of our units have individual hot water systems so very unlikely to happen.

Greeted by relief manager who showed us the rooms which sold it to us really. Choices were not great mostly tired and dated. Room was quite adequate and clean bit dated but fine. Bit of creaking noise with the woodwork but a very handy location for eating walking distance. All in all happy with the stay.

The owners were very courteous and obliging - couldn't have asked for nicer people. The rooms very tidy and very very clean.
The location was on main road - but couldn't hear the traffic when in room.
Thank you so much

We stayed here for four nights with our family of two adults and two kids. It was the first time we had stayed here. This is an old style motel but it was pretty clean and tidy. We had a two bedroom unit which had a kitchenette (with small fridge and full-sized oven) and bathroom with shower and separate toilet. One bedroom had a double bed and a single bed and the second bedroom had two single beds. In the lounge there was a two seater and a three seater couch. There was a small dining table but it was too big for the location and was really hard to use as it was squashed into the corner. It needed to be pulled out to enable anyone to sit at the end of the table, but this meant it was pushed in front of a doorway.

The location of the motel is great - straight across the road to the beach and it is also very close to the shops and local restaurants. We didn't have to use our car at all except for when we took a trip to Waiwera hot springs. While other motels may be located on the beach side of the road, I don't think there would be another motel as close to both the shops and the beach.

We paid $230 per night which seemed quite expensive for what was included. Housekeeping service is only a change of towels and replacing soap and shampoo, etc. They do not make beds and only change sheets every five days.

In the guest guide, they stated that they did not provide a complimentary newspaper and that we would have to order and pay for it the night before, but on two mornings we did get a newspaper delivered (free of charge) which was nice. They also stated washing dishes was not part of housekeeping service, which again is a bit odd.

There is a guest laundry which uses tokens and it was $2 to use the washing machine (plus $1 for powder if you did not bring your own). The dryer was $2 per half load which was not enough to dry a full load of washing so you would be paying $4 per dryer use if you wanted a whole load completely dried.

We received a discount voucher for Waiwera Hot Springs which was really good - $30 off a family pass, which meant we only paid $31 for the whole family.

There is a spa pool but we found it a bit run down and dirty. On the second day we used it, it smelt awful and left a lingering stink on our skin, even after showering so we didn't use it again after that. The motel requests that you do not use room towels, but they charge a fee of $2 per towel if you want to hire spa towels - I have never seen this in a motel before. Other motels always provide separate spa towels free of charge. Fortunately we had taken our own beach towels.

I have stayed in other similar sized, more modern motels and have received more value for money. Eg - dishwasher with powder provided and washer/dryer in bathroom with powder provided, free paper daily, biscuits provided along with tea and coffee, etc so I think OML could do a bit more in the way of providing more of these types of things. Also, I think it is fairly standard to make beds in a motel - that's one of the good things about being on holiday and not having to do any housework!
