Very comfortable wooden cabins with all the facilities you would expect and good value.
I politely asked how to lock the door to our room, as this wasn't a lock I've come across before (after being in the capentry trade for over 40 years) and her reaction was not only rude, she was extremely offensive and personal. I'm a recovering Stroke patient and explained that I find it hard to communicate, but rather than be supportive and patient with me, she just said offensive words including the phrase 'we have a name for your sort of people', but I left before allowing her to tell me what she calls 'us sort of people' as I already felt targeted. My mother is such a diplomatic lady and I've never known her to say a bad word about any one and even she was disgusted in this lady's behaviour. I can not believe she works in hospitality. The accommodation was fine, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to pay to stay somewhere that they will be treated this poorly.
Reading the comments suggests we aren't the only ones she has mistreated.
Our two bedroom unit was tidy and contained everything expected in terms of furnishings.
Big negative was that there was no hot water from the shower or taps. Temperature would not go above lukewarm, making for uncomfortable showers. Did not warm up at all by the time we left in the morning.
Staff extremely helpfull
The location was on main road - but couldn't hear the traffic when in room.
Thank you so much
The location of the motel is great - straight across the road to the beach and it is also very close to the shops and local restaurants. We didn't have to use our car at all except for when we took a trip to Waiwera hot springs. While other motels may be located on the beach side of the road, I don't think there would be another motel as close to both the shops and the beach.
We paid $230 per night which seemed quite expensive for what was included. Housekeeping service is only a change of towels and replacing soap and shampoo, etc. They do not make beds and only change sheets every five days.
In the guest guide, they stated that they did not provide a complimentary newspaper and that we would have to order and pay for it the night before, but on two mornings we did get a newspaper delivered (free of charge) which was nice. They also stated washing dishes was not part of housekeeping service, which again is a bit odd.
There is a guest laundry which uses tokens and it was $2 to use the washing machine (plus $1 for powder if you did not bring your own). The dryer was $2 per half load which was not enough to dry a full load of washing so you would be paying $4 per dryer use if you wanted a whole load completely dried.
We received a discount voucher for Waiwera Hot Springs which was really good - $30 off a family pass, which meant we only paid $31 for the whole family.
There is a spa pool but we found it a bit run down and dirty. On the second day we used it, it smelt awful and left a lingering stink on our skin, even after showering so we didn't use it again after that. The motel requests that you do not use room towels, but they charge a fee of $2 per towel if you want to hire spa towels - I have never seen this in a motel before. Other motels always provide separate spa towels free of charge. Fortunately we had taken our own beach towels.
I have stayed in other similar sized, more modern motels and have received more value for money. Eg - dishwasher with powder provided and washer/dryer in bathroom with powder provided, free paper daily, biscuits provided along with tea and coffee, etc so I think OML could do a bit more in the way of providing more of these types of things. Also, I think it is fairly standard to make beds in a motel - that's one of the good things about being on holiday and not having to do any housework!
