Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This holiday park is kept up and nicely maintained. It is right next to the shoreline and has ocean view lots. The facilities are not new but kept in good condition. The holiday park provided bathrooms, showers and kitchen, garbage and recycling as well as dump station. All in all I would come back here. A note concerning a previous reviews telling about a dog issue: I did see a small dog, but that was the only one. It didn’t seem an issue when we visited.

This is good camp ground….we’ve been here many times…..but, I think we’ll look elsewhere in future. The problem with dogs here now is out of control. If you have a dog, (like we have) they need to be on a lead. If you don’t have your dog on a lead, they constantly bother people who are being responsible and having their dogs on a lead. The couple behind us were constantly harassed but a male dog. I spoke to the owner of the dog who was staying in one on the Yurts……I was told to mind my own business. The same dog then ran at and snapped a small child on a scooter, still they did nothing. We watched it defecate, run off to the sea on its own and it barked constantly. We were going to stay for another two day midweek but I spoke to one the the camp cleaners doing the yurts, and they just said “dogs are allowed” and walked off… Would you call 3 large dogs roaming u leashed around the site “a pack” …..I would…we couldn’t even sit out site with our “tethered” small dog.. See picture taken from my van.

We stayed in a self contained studio unit recently. As soon as we entered we noticed a srong damp, musty smell. The unit was in poor condition. It was right next to the road, so it was very noisy. The only good thing was that the bed and the shower were ok. The unit was in a part of the camp that had a lot of dirty unkempt looking caravans that had been there a long time. It was an unpleasant experience. I couldn't wait to leave, and we won't go back. Its a shame as another part of the camp where there were motorhomes looked ok, and its right next to the beach. The parking was bad - I can only imagine what it is like in peak season trying to find a park.

I have been coming to the Orewa Camp ground for the past 6 years. When I first started coming It was a privately owned site. It was absolutely beautiful. Why:? * Staff managing the office were always helpful, polite and genuinely interested if there was a concern * The cabins, both standard and Deluxe were always beautifully clean. * The cleaning staff would stop by and ask if there was any thing I needed, towels, tea towels * When I stayed in a standard cabin ( which was only once ) the toilet and shower block were always sparkling clean. I believe that the camp site is now owned by Auckland City Council. i have just had spent 4 nights in a Deluxe cabin and was dreadfully disappointed with the cabin and the camp site. Why ? * We arrived 10 minutes early , 10 to 2 to take possession of the cabin. our reception at the desk was met with an extremely brisk response, " it is not 2 ' o' clock ' Give me strength!! I thought.. * We returned to the office at 10 past 2 to pick up the key. Great we were ready to start our beach holiday. The key we were given had no. 15 on it,, but cabin 15 was already occupied!!! So , back to the office . A different office manager convinced us that it was still being cleaned !! Oh no we said there is family there. Back to the office!! He laughed and said oh I have given you the wrong key. !!!! * Finally got inside and unpacked. * We had to follow The Rules. On leaving strip beds and put sheets in one bag, towels in another.!! Are the staff unable to strip the beds? * Dishes time very little dish wash liquid so had to chase around back to get some more. * When my daughter lifted the pillow on the divan bed, horrors a big clump, of human hair !!!! * We used the frying pan, but nothing to clean it, no scrub pad . Not sure if I will be back sadly. Although I really love the beach and the cafe's.

Response from Thomas Patterson, General Manager at Orewa Beach Holiday Park
Responded 5 Apr 2022
Kia ora Mary, thank you for your feedback review. We are apologetic that you did not have a fantastic experience in staying with us which is what we endeavour to deliver for all our guests. We have taken on board the points you have raised and worked on what improvements can be made and discussed amongst the team. As you would have been aware January was an extremely busy peak holiday period with the added challenges of dealing with COVID and the different CPF level requirements. We were only able to re open on 3 December which meant for recruiting and onboarding seasonal and new staff it was on the job training as we went. This is not an excuse more that in reviewing everything this identified where some things may not have been double checked or up to the standard it should have been. We also had to operate with a number of COVID requirements for guests which included to strip bedding and sheeting and bag to reduce transmission. The Alternative is time extensive of closing off a room for a while. Auckland Council has owned and operated the holiday park since amalgamation and prior to this was the Rodney District Council. In you previous visits over the last 6 years it would have been Council. Please feel free to contact myself directly as I/we would be more than happy for you to try another stay with us stay for two nights and only pay for one to restore your guest experience. Kindest regards.

We stayed here for one night but would have loved to have stayed longer. This park is so close to absolutely everything in Orewa. The surf club is only 5 mins walk away (highly recommend a visit) and the town centre only a stones throw further. The facilities at the park are fantastic, particularly for wheelchair access. We had a beach front powered camper site and it couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend!!

We arrived with a campervan and had no problem securing a large site at short notice. Facilities all clean and well maintained. Location right on the beach and all the restaurants/shops are a 10min walk down a nice pathway. We only did a one night stay but is happily come back again.

We stayed in a self contained unit. Has kitchen with micro, fridge, hotplate, no oven. TV and single bed and couch bed in lounge. Bedroom has a dbl bed. 250mb wifi free per day but you can pay for more. Room quite musty, bedroom very hot, no fan. Couch very low and uncomfortable. Beach very close. Traffic from highway behind unit very noisy all the time. All units back onto highway. Couldn't sleep with noise. Wouldn't come back because of that. Camping or caravans are closer to beach and away from road. Staff nice.

A good camping spot, bit tricky driving way around camp , through lots of turns and ally ways, through many permanents there. Owners helpful and friendly. Good facilities. Clean and tidy camp, great walks on beach, amazing sunrises and sunsets.
