Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our family spent 5 nights at this lodge. From the oustside, the chalets look quite ordinary and simple. However, the inside was very warm, cosy and clean. Well decorated with nice furniture. Very comfy beds. On site manager was very nice and hepful too. The whole family really appreciated this stay. Will definitely come back if we decide to go back in this area. The only "problem" was the internet connection that works outside the chalet but not inside. The manager explained us they are waiting for the faster internet, etc... But we were not there to spend time on the internet, so i still give them a solid 5 stars.

We stayed in Ohakune during a quiet May weekend, and really enjoyed our time at the cosy Rocky Mountain Chalets. The chalet was spacious, warm, and well equipped. We welcomed the hot shower after a cold day out in the mountains. And we also appreciated the assistance from staff in returning a lost item promptly - thank you very much for your kind help!!

We stayed here as a bit of sightseeing of NZ Mountains. The drive down from Rotorua was spectacular. Wished we taken a bit longer as there are some monster trout in Lake Taupo. The chalets have a living area with a good kitchen & bathroom. Its set up for skiing holidays in the winter. Its a short walk into Ohakune for shopping and restaurants. Lots of outdoors stuff to do (hiking etc) but you'll exhaust the possibilities of town in an afternoon.

Stayed here on the spur of the moment as we couldn't get to Napier due to the Cyclone. We were not disappointed by the welcome from Jennifer as nothing was too much trouble. The chalet was lovely and clean and very well appointed but the WiFi was dismal and extremely frustrating - bouncing in and out. The phone didn't work but overall we had no complaints. However, we were extremely unlucky in that we hit some very cold and wet weather and couldn't find any way that we could heat the chalet. We were chilled to the bone and sat with blankets around us until we went to bed early to keep warm. If only some heating had been available, our experience would have been so much better.

Hello. Very sorry you have an issue. All the chalets have heat pumps in them plus oil heaters for the bedrooms. I wish you had contacted us while you were here so we could of helped you to turn the heat pump on. Thank you for your lovely review. Safe Travels.

We loved this accomodation, the chalets are just amazing. All you need for a lovely stay in a great location. Our chalet was positioned a few rows back so we couldn’t hear any road noise. Great contactless option for check in which was hassle free

Great location, a short walk into town and to 🥕 park. Such a great set up. Everything you would need for a family get away. Beds were comfortable and kids appreciated having their own beds (they'd shared a double at the previous place we'd stayed at). Shower was awesome. Would love to stay again.

We loved the hot tubs on site, the modern decor, kitchen, bathrooms, storage, carports, heating, helpful staff and location. Great to have Sky Sport channels during the Olympics! We would definitely want to stay again but we hope the wifi situation might be better next time (otherwise we would have scored a clear 5 stars!).

If we could give this a negative score of NEGATIVE 1000 we would! Unless your looking to experience abusive behavior from the manager, (we were specifically called and shouted at on numerous occasions; "retarded", "mentally challenged disabled") and to be charged incorrectly and unlawfully outside of your contractual agreement, i would not recommend staying here! The manager deducted the funds from our account against the agreement where we specifically selected "Pay on arrival" and provided the evidence to support this on numerous occasions to which they still wasted further of our time by not refunding the exact amount when they stated they eventually would. The response from the chalet was basically suggesting they do this to guests all the time without their consent and this was provided in writing by the chalet. After trying to rationally resolve this with the chalet for many days of this ongoing abuse, we finally got a full refund to support the correct amount. On top of this my cousin who was coming on holiday with us is of special needs. Based of the non existent customer service we I am extremely glad we received, we managed to avoid staying at this Poorly run chalet. If this is what the manager is like - what hope do the rest of the staff have??!! BEWARE! we are now seeking legal advise and been advised that the chalet have gone against consumer guarantee by not following the terms and conditions of the payment agreement.

We were excited to stay in Ohakune with it being so close to the Ski feilds and with awesome bike tracks and a kid friendly park next door . Accommodation at Rocky Mountain Chalets was everything they advertised friendly service and the managers exceeded our expectations with hospitality. Chalets are clean and spacious! Everything you need for a family holiday. Would have been a 5 rating if their internet was adequate. Hot water is electric cylinders so need to be aware of shower times !!!

Came to Ohakune to ride Timber Trail and canoe the Rangitikei. Stayed for 2 nights in premium chalet (14) Nicely furnished and clean. The chalet was modern and beautifully appointed. My only issue is that we paid extra for a room with a spa that never worked. Raised it with the manager and he seemed reasonably disinterested in assisting..... not impressed with lack of interest.
