Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First of all, The Clyde Hotel is a good location if you are wanting to go up to Mt Ruapehu for the day, which is exactly what we wanted. Paying a cheap rate we expected the room to be basic with shared toilet facilities. This we were perfectly ok with as you pay for what you get.

Unfortunately however the room did not live up to basic hygiene standards as we had the feeling that the sheets were not changed from previous guests as there was black hair and stains all throughout. The room was full of dust and there was even lost property still present in the draws.

Come on guys, it shouldn't take much to be able to clean your small rooms. If this was the case we would of walked away happy.

I would not recommend the Clyde Hotel to anyone.

We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and lined up in the 'line' to order our dinner, afterwards we went to the bar to buy some drinks and were ignored for about 15 minutes, other people came after us and as they were closer to the 'line' were served, until a nice lady told the Spanish girl serving that we were waiting well before them, which was when we were served, if the hotel wants people to order from a specific place, they need a sign, if they are under staffed, they need to hire more wait staff, wouldn't come again due to the staff, apart from this it is a pleasant venue.

Harsh title, I know. However, it's quite well deserved. Four of us stayed here on a deal we found and it is the worst accommodation I have ever had the misfortune of paying for. Here's a list of the top problems in no particular order:
1) Got there at 10:30pm, went to the room we'd been allocated only to find it hadn't been made up from the previous guest. When we went back to the bar (as the reception was never attended) the lady pulled out some new sheets, changed them (leaving the dirty, stained duvet cover still on) and that was it. The floors, sink and rubbish bin contents were never cleaned. Our room was never cleaned again (we were staying two nights). There were plenty of spare rooms that were made up and in the same price bracket. When we asked to use one of those rooms instead we were told this wasn't possible.
2) I can deal with having nothing to dry my hands on but there wasn't an ounce of soap in the ladies or mens bathrooms or in the kitchen and the showers looked like they hadn't been given a decent clean in days.
3) No hot water in the rooms or in the kitchen which was never cleaned either while we were there.
4) The radiators on the walls seem to be just for show. Some rooms had small, ineffective fan heaters.
5) Only one shower in the ladies actually had hot water running to it.
6) Our deal included a $20 food voucher which we were never given (but given the unhygienic state of the accommodation I don't think I'd want to eat there anyway).

The only reason this place received one point is because there was one nice lady there that we spoke to, it was in a good location and TripAdvisor doesn't seem to let me put nothing.

Don't do it to yourself.

Arrived to room to find all the windows open in mid winter so room was like an ice box and the net curtains were ripped so only covered half the window. The heater was so inefficant it took an eternity to heat up the room and we ended up sleeping under 3 duvets. When I say sleep, this was limited as the hotel was very noisy. It was like the people in the next room were actually in our room. Paper thin walls. You could here every conversation.

The bathroom light was broken and they had stuck a lamp precariously on the vanity with the power cord running out through the door. There was also only one light bulb working in the room so it was quite dark.

The toilet was filthy and had obviously never been cleaned properly and you could not pay me enough to use the bath. It was mouldy and filthy. There were huge chunks of formicre missing from the shower wall and a large brown splatter up the front of the bath. The vanity sink was also cracked.

I know the hotel is advertised as affordable but we didn't realize that this meant run down and filthy. We didn't expect luxury but certainly expected a clean, hygienic facility with a bit of care given. It's not like there giving the rooms away. We have booked into another hotel for the rest of our stay.

This is not a hotel it is a backpackers and a dirty one at that. As you can probably guess we won't be staying here again and wouldn't recommend it.

But I tell my boyfriend d to stand up in line and a group of 4-6 people come in and the lady tells us..... Ohhhh they were first, menus are over on this side ( saying this side as 30 degrees from where we were) and leaves us last,we left of course

Unsure if a part if the same business so please delete if necessary.

The tavern was our destination for a pub meal. Lovely decor and heating - natural fireplaces.

Food came out at wrong times for a group of 6. A few finished before others came out. Small serving sizes. No cutlery when food was served. Food very sub - par.

Travelling theough New Zealand we had the great misfortune to book into Clude Hotel Ohukune.
We were "greeted" at reception by an extremely unpleasant "owner" whe just about found time to take us to our rooms, we had booked 4, there was nobody else staying there, not surprising.....
First complaint was about windows that didn't open, but far far worse were the filthy & disgusting bathrooms, see photos! The noise late at night from karoake in the bar was deafening. Wifi was useless!
Please don't EVER book this hotel! All complaints made on site were met with rudeness & total indifference.
Susan.

An awful place, no one on reception when needed, music blaring out all of the time. Our original room had no electricity so we were moved out into an outhouse between a kitchen and bar.
The bar was open for karaoke until 2am so be warned. It was barely cleaned since the last occupant. Stay here at your peril! !!!
