We stayed here the night before our Whanganui River trip with Canoe Safaris. The room was quite spacious and comfortable, and everything was spotless. We were able to leave our car here while on the river. Made the 6.45 am start easy.

We stayed one night prior to a trip on the Whanganui with Canoe Safaris. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. There was a hot tub but we didn’t get round to it. Kirsten checked us in and gave us a rundown of Ohakune. I’d recommend it for a couple of days if exploring the area.

A couple of years ago I canoed the Wanganui River with Canoe Safaris, out of all my friends I had the least canoeing experience but the staff/guides at Canoe Safaris were excellent. They made me feel incredibly safe and confident on the river so I was able to admire the beautiful scenery and not worry about falling in!

This time we thought we would go for a trip with a few more rapids and so chose to do the Rangitikei trip, again with Canoe Safaris. We weren’t disappointed! The scenery was amazing, the clarity of the water was unbelievable and it was so exciting not knowing what was coming up around the corner. Again the staff/guides were superb and really made the trip by being so knowledgeable about the river, making you feel safe and generally looking after you. Of course the food was fantastic, it’s not how I remember camping food to be, -we had steak, cheesecake, wine - it just got better and better! And we all loved the muesli – we need to get the recipe!

We actually stayed over the night before our trip in the lodge that they have in Ohakune. The rooms were lovely, very clean, comfortable and modern with everything you could need and well priced. And if you don’t feel like cooking there are bars/restaurants very close by.

Would definitely recommend Canoe Safaris to anyone looking to do a river trip and we are saving up to do the Mohaka rafting!

This place is very unassuming. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside is great. It's spacious and well equipped. Beds, including sofa bed, was comfy. Water pressure nice and strong. Cleanliness was 10/10. Only suggestions are that there should be blinds for the front door window to block the light that shines through at night, and there should be more hooks /hangars or racks for clothing.

Great place to stay before and after the Whanganui Canoe adventure. 8 of us did the three day trip. Clean and warm and comfortable. Plenty of room in each unit to spread out all our gear. Nothing was too much trouble when we asked. They looked after our gear and valuables while we were away on our adventure. Many thanks to Kirstie and Phil and family.

We stayed here for a ski weekend, it was an absolute pleasure. Fab hosts and a warm, very clean and cosy room. Just round the corner from the village shops and right next to the road heading to Turoa skifield. Will happily stay again and keen to give the canoe safari a go in summer.

We had booked out 2 rooms at this lodge as part of a weekend roadtrip with my family which included 4 adults and 2 children
The pictures do not do justice to the lodge honestly
When i arrived the owner was really welcoming
He had warmed up our rooms for us and had a weather report ready for the next day for me
I paid when i arrived which suited us better
The room was so spacious
You could comfortably fit 5 people in each room and have enough room to spare
Each room had a kitchen and bathroom
And was really close to town
We paid $120 per room which was really reasonable for the size
I would definitely recommend staying here

A good value for money place to stay with a comfy bed bed, beautiful view, everything you need and a really excellent wet area shower room. Stayed here the night before doing one of the canoe trips so it was easy to be ready in the morning. Staff were very helpful.

Think very carefully about using your credit card here. I booked online via booking.com around 10 months ago. The owner told me there was a 'glitch' in their system an there in fact were no rooms available. After a lot of time searching around during peak ski season we managed to find alternative accommodation which was considerably more expensive. 10 Months after we were supposed to stay the owner has dug through and located my credit card number and charged me for the room which they couldn't provide. Unimpressed! I work with resorts so understand how booking.com works. Firstly Canoe Safari Lodge couldn't provide the accommodation. Secondly they are legally required to keep a register of who stays at their accommodation. This smacks of dishonesty or at the very least complete incompetence. Beware!
