Had a fantastic stay at the Kings. Rooms were clean, cosy and smelt great. We had dinner on-site - definitely recommend the Chicken Burger - huge, great value and tasted amazing. Would happily stay again.

This hotel was better than expected! The warmth and welcoming from the owner and staff were incredible, they turned a cold camping night into the best hotel night. The room was so clean you could smell it! It was warm and cosy and that beats a cold camoing night up the mountain. The staff went the extra mile to make us feel accommodated, we cant wait to stay here again

Touted as a great place for families, this absolute crapper of a place has parties in the bar until 3am and could not give two hoots if it bothers any other guests.
Soundproofing of rooms is an absolute joke.
We have had NO SLEEP.
DO NOT BOOK HERE.

We are sorry this happened to you at the end of a busy holidays post covid, The local hospo staff and ski workers did hold a party and thought enough precautions were taken. We all were under enormous pressure and dealt with a lot of challenges during this time and indeed we did book you in our back rooms to ensure no disturbance. This obviously was not satisfactory although we realise your disappointment, we apologised and tried to make alternative arrangements, none were satisfactory. . We chose to allow the 300plus patrons to enjoy their evening and note that only one room staying that night did mention their dissatisfaction were fully refunded yet 2 reviews were received for the same night. We have worked harder to make sure Hotel guests and Bar and restaurant guests can equally enjoy our iconic venue and thus far since this date to our knowledge has worked well.

We were reallocated to this hotel by our travel agent when our original accommodation was closed just before we were due to travel. We have stayed in some good hotels during our trip around NZ but this isn’t one of them. Check in was swift and friendly but the outside lodge allocated to us left a lot to be desired. It was small and dark with nowhere to store clothes. There were two bunk beds in the corner half blocking the front door. This was supposed to be a disabled access room - no way would a wheelchair get through the door. Four people in a room this size would be cramped for space. However, the room was clean and the bed, surprisingly, was very comfortable. The shower was also very good. The restaurant was closed due to staff shortages and no breakfast was available other than a pre ordered breakfast bagel. There is however a friendly pub within walking distance serving good food. The whole place seems to be struggling and could do with a good dose of TLC.

+1
I came by for dinner at the pub to meet up with a friend. The dining area is fairly large and they do have outdoor seating but it wasn't really in use for dinner. We were able to get a table without having to book. It was quite warm in there though.
The menu is interesting, which ranges from standard pub fare like burgers and bangers and mash to something a bit different, like the lamb shank ragu. I had the Korean spiced beef brisket and it was delicious. It had a nice heat to it and the kimchi and cauliflower rice added their own flavours and textures. The dipping sauce was salty and spicy.
I grabbed a dessert instead of drinks. the chocolate cheesecake was nice and rich and it came with ice cream and cream. It was a nice place for a tasty meal. It is also a nice place fo drinks if that was all your after.

Great spot. Beautiful views of the mountain. Management and team are super friendly and helpful. Great food and beer. Was really cool to have a beer and some food on the deck viewing the mountain with people playing card games and kids running around enjoying themselves. Great vibe!

Forgot to review this restaurant earlier … been here so often just thought I’d be flogging a dead horse on perfect atmosphere, unpretentious staff and wholesome food.
Our daughter can’t get past the ribs (so much better than Powderkeg) and the burgers get me every time. Fries always crisp. Staff always friendly … and often a tap beer special …
Great restaurant, great people … awesome.

Our stay was fine in all respects until the second of two nights, If you’re staying check what they have planned for the bar. Turns out that if theres a DJ playing, and pounding the place until 2 am then the paying guests staying take second best. Sleep for them is not something to be bothered with. Two phone calls to the bar achieved very little. The management need to decide what they’re running- accommodation of a night club. The two don’t mix. Aside from that, value for money and comfortable.

First and foremost we owe an apology for the late night on Sunday. As it was Public Holiday On Monday we did let it go a bit later than planned. We weren’t anticipating all other bars to close early and the large influx caught us out. There was a great atmosphere of workers and guests who all were so happy we had a great season, as even in June it was unknown if the town would survive with no Ski-field operating . With government intervention and great snowfall, all season, people were just so happy with how the season turned out and wanted to celebrate it. We are sorry again for the late night and have refunded your nights stay with us.

Hubby and I popped in for a beer, wine and snack 3rd Sept. The Mountain was in its glory and the view of it from the Kings is spectacular! Best place to photograph it as no power lines in the way like other places. We ordered lambs fry and bacon and oh man was it good, I mean real good! Cooked to perfection👏👏. Also had loaded curly fries which were delicious also. Didn't like the headbanging hard rock music playing cotinuously but thankfully it wasn't too loud. A mix of music would've been nicer. We would return for sure as it's a legend of a Hotel that has been around since 1913. Legend!
