We received a really lovely professional greeting and were shown options for dinner that may be dog friendly.
We had our dog with us and were charged an additional $20 cleaning fee which we felt was fine.
Areas were also pointed out where we could exercise our dog.
The motel was clean and well cared for. Not super modern but really comfortable and suited out needs. It was also very quiet, which is a bonus.
Kids slept upstairs in a loft where there were 3 single beds.
Downstairs we had a comfortable Queen size bed which was right next to the kitchen and bathroom.
There was also a comfy couch to watch TV and a dining table and chairs.
Parking was available right outside our door.

Wonderfully clean, tidy, and warm. Surprisingly more spacious than I was expecting with an upstairs loft area with three single beds and room to walk around. Downstairs was a queen bed and a kitchenette, couch, and a small square dining table for 3-4. Couch too. Beautifully hot and very powerful water in the shower. Separate toilet.
Towel rail. The heater in the downstairs living area was a panel heater, upstairs, and oil heater.
Car park outside with a half-covered carport that lets you park your car bonnet first so windscreen clear the next day ie no snow nor ice to remove.
Spa pool easy to book. Good size for 4 adults.
Staff at reception was friendly and welcoming. Didn`t use the restaurant/breakfast room nor I believe a shared lounge with pool table.
Powderhorn Restaurant is just a short walk up the road as is the train station. Kings and other eateries.
A short direct road drive into town. Easy access drive to Turoa and a 30 min drive to Whakapapa.

We stayed for 2 nights and were very comfortable though they could do with some closets to stuff your clothes.
The common kitchen needed some cleaning as it smelt some revolting stuff
Otherwise a good hotel for a short stay.
Must commend the reception staff who were very supporting and helpful

This was our second time staying at the Ruapehu Mountain Motel, both have been in one of the Studio rooms and we were able to bring along our dog making for an enjoyable stay.
The rooms were clean and tidy.
The motel is very handily located to facilities at the Ohakune Junction and just a short drive, bike ride or walk to Ohakune shops.

Booked 3 nights for a family holiday.
Disappointed as we did not get the room originally booked. Instead we were given room 14 above the laundry and were told
It would shake during the washing loads. Because of heavy rain it leaked thru front door. Towels were not replaced only by request and when we were out they came in turned off our heaters. Spa was a really. Pretty much it served its purpose but we will not be staying there again.

We chose this motel as it is fairly close to the train station and we were arriving on the train and had no transport. We liked that the beds were comfortable, the price was affordable, we were able to cook our own meals in the kitchen. The shower was spacious and powerful. The owners were very accommodating and allowed us into our room early, and dropped us back to the station when we left.

The motel is close to the National park walk and also the lovely walk by the stream. It is in a quiet neighbourhood and close to the Powderkeg lodge which has a restaurant and bar.

The only down side if you don’t have your own transport is that the walk into the main shopping area is about 2 km.
It was a lovely place to spend a few days.

Stayed one night during the off season. Room was warm and well furnished. Plenty of hot water at a decent pressure (I had a room with an ensuite). Host was very friendly and offered advice on local attractions and other information.
Very close to the mount road up to Turoa skifield.

We had a room with double bed downstairs and 3 single beds on mezzanine floor. It was perfect - warm, comfortable, quiet, good kitchen and bathroom facilites (liked the sseparate toilet). My only concern was the very limited reception hours(8.00-8.30 am inly).

Last minute booking for a standard double and was upgraded to a studio for free. The studio was spacious, very clean, and well equipped. The host was very friendly. It only took a few minutes to drive to town - a good base for exploring Ohakune and Tongariro National Park.

The establishment is close to the main trunk and so expect some trains passing, but this should not be an issue. One can hear the trains but will not feel the earth shake.

There are definitely a number a self guided tracks close to the Ruapehu Mountain Motel and Lodge. For example: The Mangaturuturu Valley Hut and Lake Surprise - this is a fantastic one day walk that has wonderful views of Mt Ruapehu, cascading waterfalls, a picturesque river valley at the base of the mountain and a hidden tarn. One of the best one day walks in NZ! Waitonga Falls, Blyth Hut and /or Mangaehuehu Hut - a lovely walk with waterfall, mountain streams, native bush and superb views of Mt Ruapehu. The Old Coach Road - Walk or bike this track that starts just 200m from the Ruapehu Motel and Lodge. With a historic renovated viaduct, native bush, and tunnel to explore this track is suitable for all the family. Hope this helps
