We booked the whole lodge and grounds for our wedding over the long weekend.
Our guests that stayed at the lodge had only positive things to say and found the atmosphere very relaxing.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the lawns and gardens are well maintained.
Over the past year Dani has put some very thoughtful and personal touches to the property that only adds to its magic.
As a host Dani is very easy to deal with, very helpful and provides overall excellent hospitality.
This place truly is one of Ohakune's hidden gems!

My daughter and I stayed in one of the cottages. It was very clean and extremely comfortable. I must commend the owner, Daniel, as his attention to detail is impeccable. The grounds were quite beautiful along the river with the hammock & swing. Be wary of the insects if you leave the windows open. We did recommend fans on the survey so people can cool off without having to open the windows. Daniel was very helpful with suggestions. I almost felt like he went out of his way for us but noticed he was as accommodating with the other guests. I would highly recommend The River Lodge!

We stayed at The River Lodge for two nights but could/should have stayed for longer. Our room was ultra-comfy with a fantastic view of the ruapehu volcano from the balcony and the big windows.
Dani is a super nice host and takes great personal care about his guests. Yummy breakfast and a great selection of local wines (Hans Herzog!) and craft beers available straight from the fridge.
The River Lodge is a perfect base station for hikes and walks such as Tongariro Alpine Crossing and others (off the beaten track, Dani will give very good recommendations). Alternatively you may grab a canoe and explore the local river running behind the lodge ;-)

Hi Birgit, thank you very much for your very appreciated review. Makes me very happy, that you have enjoyed the place and my services. Due to the Corona Virus Situation I have now plenty of time, to make The River Lodge looking even better. I repaint and renovate and make the place ready for the next season (when ever that will be... ;-) I hope you folks had a safe travel home and stay now home safe like many million others. Stay healthy. All the best I wish you. Cheers from The River Lodge, Daniel and his cats

A stunning weekend in a tranquil setting hosted by Daniel as a very amenable host and enthusiastic owner of this property. The River Lodge has a range of accommodation to suit different needs. We stayed in a delightful King Suite in the Lodge/Main House while our daughter and partner enjoyed a cottage with their own fireplace! We loved sitting in the lounge of the Lodge before heading into Ohakune for dinner. We can recommend Cypress Tree and The Kitchen as great places to eat.Daniel provides a wonderful breakfast to set you up for the day and is passionate in supporting the development of tourism in Ohakune. We enjoyed activities in the area including the Whanganui River Tours with Ken and a great trip to the Bridge to Nowhere. I highly recommend The River Lodge as a place to stay

What a wonderful place.
The lodge was very spacious and equipped with everything you need.
Large bathroom, a fridge and everything for tea and coffee was available.
We had a fireplace in the house where we could make a fire ourselves.
The breakfast was very fresh and plentiful. Nothing was missing.
Daniel is a great host who is great to chat to and who will give you tips.
There is also a laundry service for NZD 20 per wash - the laundry is washed, dried and folded back in the lodge the same day.
We felt very welcome and at home here. Daniel, thank you for everything.

I had the opportunity to stay at the lodge last week and use it as a base for cycling trips. The Ohakune old coach road , and in particular the Mangapurua track were highlights , but the experience was very much enriched by my stay at the River Lodge. Dani was a great host. The breakfasts were beautiful and the accommodation itself was serene and relaxing ( 5 minutes in the swing chair by the river and work was a distant memory !) but what made it special was the extra attention paid by Dani to enhance my stay. We shared a delightful evening meal , he provided me with great advice about lesser known trails in the region and generally went above and beyond to make my stay memorable.Would very much recommend for those with a desire for a base for a cycling holiday in this region

This is a great little spot for a getaway, Dani is a great host who is happy to have a good chat but also able to give guests privacy. This is also a nice spot for a relaxing time while the mountain is closed. We appreciated Dani allowing our labrador to come on holiday with us and made our fur baby feel like a welcome guest.
There is also a great selection of wines from Swiss winemakers based in New Zealand available for purchase, and a great continental breakfast. Thanks for the hospiutality Dani, I really hope that covid doesnt impact too much on this business as the plans to expand will make this a regular holiday spot for our family in years to come.

We stayed in a spacious chalet, functional and comfortable equipped-nicely done up. All rooms are perfectly clean. Beds were cushy and we felt very well overall at once. The chalets a surrounded by a park and enable from the terrace and living room an impressive view to Ruapehu Mountain.
Perfect stay for many activities in this mountain region as walking and hiking and for kayak tours.
Daniel is a very friendly, helpfully, unconcealed host and the perk of his breakfast is fresh homemade bread - by an anyway mouth-watering meal.

Stayed for a couple of nights. Dani was very helpful and friendly. He gave us some good information on where to eat, what to see and do. Not just in Ohakune but also on our way south. The Whitecliff Boulders were amazing, thanks Dani.
The cabin we stayed in was comfortable and spacious. Very quiet and had some great views. Breakfast was great. Eggs, cereal, fruit, juices, yogurt and cold meat & cheese platter. We didn't go hungry!
We would definitely come back again.
