A gracious host, views of Mount Ruapehu, and perfectly located for a day on the slopes or tramping nearby nature walks. The cabins are simple but nicely appointed and cozy. The breakfast included is ample, tasty, and locally sourced; a great start to a day out. The grounds are lush, beautiful, and well cared for. A perfect play to stay.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The owner, Daniel, was very attentive, answered all our questions, and provided a wonderful breakfast. His attention to detail shows with the decor inside and outside the cottages. We stayed here in order to visit Tangarino National Park, and do the whanganui River cruise (Bridge to nowhere). The cruise was great, couldn’t do the Tangarino crossing due to the shuttle buses being closed due to bad weather.

We stayed in a spacious chalet, functional and comfortable equipped-nicely done up. All rooms are perfectly clean. Beds were cushy and we felt very well overall at once. The chalets a surrounded by a park and enable from the terrace and living room an impressive view to Ruapehu Mountain. Perfect stay for many activities in this mountain region as walking and hiking and for kayak tours. Daniel is a very friendly, helpfully, unconcealed host and the perk of his breakfast is fresh homemade bread - by an anyway mouth-watering meal.

Flew from Sydney for a family skiing trip on Mt Ruapehu, was met with very unkind gale force winds and heavy rain for three days leading to closed ski fields. Luckily, staying at river lodge eased the disappointment. We stayed at Chalet 4, it's very cosy with european village decor, Daniel and Fern made sure we were very well looked after and were very attentive to our needs. The common library area is great to just relax and time out, Daniel has a nice little wine list from local producers and the inroom Jacuzzi was a kid's favourite. Riverlodge Ohakune is a gem, highly recommend!

Stayed for a couple of nights. Dani was very helpful and friendly. He gave us some good information on where to eat, what to see and do. Not just in Ohakune but also on our way south. The Whitecliff Boulders were amazing, thanks Dani. The cabin we stayed in was comfortable and spacious. Very quiet and had some great views. Breakfast was great. Eggs, cereal, fruit, juices, yogurt and cold meat & cheese platter. We didn't go hungry! We would definitely come back again.

We (family of four, children 5 and 7) stayed at the river lodge for 3 nights. We were in one of the cabins. The view from the porch is marvelous. The grounds are well kept. The hosts are the most friendle couple. They give good advise and are allways there to help. We had a campfire the first night and excellent breakfast every morning. There is a warm and comfortable common area with lost of books and games. The Tangorio parc and the whanganui river are at 45 min drive. So it’s a great place for daytrips. We would recommend this place to everyone.

Daniel was so lovely and accommodating to our family. His new accomodation was immaculate, and beautifully finished. We had the most wonderful stay. A great view of the mountain from the sitting room was a huge plus. Would definitely stay again if we we were in the area.

A stunning weekend in a tranquil setting hosted by Daniel as a very amenable host and enthusiastic owner of this property. The River Lodge has a range of accommodation to suit different needs. We stayed in a delightful King Suite in the Lodge/Main House while our daughter and partner enjoyed a cottage with their own fireplace! We loved sitting in the lounge of the Lodge before heading into Ohakune for dinner. We can recommend Cypress Tree and The Kitchen as great places to eat.Daniel provides a wonderful breakfast to set you up for the day and is passionate in supporting the development of tourism in Ohakune. We enjoyed activities in the area including the Whanganui River Tours with Ken and a great trip to the Bridge to Nowhere. I highly recommend The River Lodge as a place to stay
