Detailed Reviews

We stayed at El Encanto for two nights over New Years Eve and while it was overall nice and good value, we had some mixed feelings. The reception staff was welcoming and helpful and the hotel is conveniently located opposite the mercado municipal and a short walk from the Cathedral. There’s parking garage around the corner as well. It’s a modern space in old walls with a clean and sparse design but we found it lacking warmth and cosiness. Our room was facing inward to the courtyard with very little light and the shades were somewhat tedious to move up and down. The bed was comfy and there was a desk and closet as well but no other furniture and no coffeemaker or kettle. The lights in the room were almost neon and it was either too dark or too light - just not right. The bathroom - which is open - had a separate toilet and bidet and excellent shower (it got quite hot and wet in the room though as we weren’t able to open the window). The blowdryer worked well, as did the internet. But the light in the bathroom was terrible (especially if you’re trying to put on make-up). There was also some echo in the hallways and from the rooms. Downstairs they serve drinks and some snacks on demand which was a nice feature, and the quality was good as well. They gave us two options for a noche vieja menu and we enjoyed the dinner a lot but then we had also inquired about mass or prayer times at the different churches and they kept redirecting us to the sites themselves without success. The lady at the Cathedral finally gave us a paper with all the mass times (I’ve posted it as a photo) - I think it would have been a nice gesture and not that difficult to send us this info ahead, given the fact that many people come to Àvila as pilgrims or to pray, and there’s not much else going on.

The fit-out of the hotel is modern but still displays the great bones of the old building.
Perfect location inside the old town walls.
Reception staff were very lovely.
I wasn’t a fan of the pillows and only saw afterwards that they had a pillow menu to choose from.

Clean, comfortable, cosy place with parking and attentive staff. The location is excellent, next to the Cathedral. And not far from places were you can taste the fantastic Yemas de Santa Teresa. A great value, thoroughly recommended! Marcio and Ana

This is a charming new place in the walled part (historic district) of Avila. The building is an old (16th century) mansion that has been completely remodeled and now has about 17 rooms. But it's also a restaurant that has a great looking menu - I say this because I haven't had time to eat dinner in the restaurant yet, although I've eaten other food in their other spaces - and many other dining options, open both to guests and non-guests. There is a lovely cellar, for example, where they serve great wines in a really charming atmosphere, a couple of other rooms , a bar and a patio that are really perfect for relaxing because they are enclosed and tranquil (Avila is thronged with visitors, especially this year).
The rooms in the hotel are simple and clean-lined and beautifully done, keeping a feel that is both antique and new. My room was an attic room that was actually pretty spacious, had a nice, modern bath, a long desk/table or whatever (I've been using it for writing and spreading out stuff to work on the project that brought me here to Avila) and excellent wifi connections. And I have a nice skylight from which I can admire the stars over Spain. (Tall people might not like this room because of the slant, but the non-attic rooms are of regular height so they might want to choose one of those.)
The staff is young and pleasant and proud of their hotel, so it's a nice happy atmosphere. I was apprehensive about my stay in Avila, because a lot of the hotels are either a little funky or they're the sort of places filled with big wedding parties. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not very restful! But this was really perfect, and I'm looking forward to returning on my next trip to Avila.

Lovely hotel in City wall right next to cathedral great history kind people and clean room.We arrived late and they checked us in quickly. The only problem was that the reservation said two twin beds or double standard bed. This was misleading because we thought either way we would be two beds, but we had one. You only get two beds if you specifically ask. The beds were normal European beds, kinda hard but ok for a night. The worst part of our stay was that the hotel is so small that when someone burnt toast at breakfast the entire room smelled like it and we could not continue to sleep.
Parking was a close walk, but not close enough to bring your bags so it's suggested to check-in and drop them first. You have to reserve parking ahead of time.
I would stay again.

El Encanto is a modern hotel in a lovely old building. It is in the old town and within easy walking distance of the cathedral and main squares.
We had the deluxe room and it was luxurious with a massive bed and fantastic walk in shower. The bath towels were lovely and big as well.
We couldn't fault the hotel, everything was clean and well looked after. The receptionist, Anais, deserves special mention. She was so friendly and helpful. The hotel even supplies an excellent map to show you how to find the numerous tourist hotspot
When visiting Avila do bring your walking shoes! There is lots to see and worth seeing! Avila has a train station and the taxi to the hotel was under €7. You could walk it, but easier to take a ride with luggage. The train service is excellent, frequent trains and cheap. We arrived by train before traveling on to Madrid. Very efficient and quick to reach airport.
Very little English is spoken, we mostly communicated in Spanish, although when they couldn't understand us they did their best to help us out with a translation.
Some really nice eating places nearby. We had lunch at Restaurant Bocoro - it is as good as the reviews and you do need to book in advance. Sigloduce is also very good. Cafeteria Restaurante Plaza de Zunaquin is just by the hotel - friendly service and great for evening time snacks.
Certainly visit hotel and city again.

We stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon and decided to choose our supper from the 'menu gastronomic'. Well, either the chef had a night off or his/her eyes on the European Cup Final because 'Gastronomic' didn't feature in what we were served.
Our starters of 'Risotto' and 'Potato with bacon' were way too big, and far too stodgy.
The 'Cod' main course was smaller and tasteless although the meat main course was slightly better. Our 'double chocolate' dessert seemed to have been microwaved from frozen.
Very disappointing because the rest of the hotel cannot be faulted.

Superb location within the walls of Avila old town. We stayed 1 night here as part of our pilgrimage trip. We walked the walls and visited St Teresa's convent and museum. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Wifi was good. Breakfast spread was good. I loved the home made cake and tortilla. Delicious!
We met the owner and he showed us around the basement where he would screen movies. The hotel was renovated with a lot of love and care to preserve parts of the old walls and structure.
The rooms were clean and modern. Every room is different and we enjoyed our stay.

Slap bang I the centre of the walled city, this is a great place to stay in Avila. It doesn't look much from the front but once inside, the cleaver design combines the remains of the the old synagogue wig a modern hotel. The interesting spaces are formed around a triangular central courtyard that has some tables for outside dining and bar drinks and snacks.
The room is finished in a contemporary style with minimal fuss. If your looking for old fashioned grandeur then go to the Parador.
We did have an issue with the AC in the night as it was not cooling very well but the staff were wonderfully helpful and attentive.
We were late for breakfast in the morning and there were no problems raised. A very good breakfast for €9 was rustled up with very good personal attention.
It is a shame that the restaurant and excellent cave bar in he basement were not better frequented. We would have stayed for dinner if anyone else had been in the restaurant. Maybe next time.....

This is a wonderful family run hotel in a gorgeous part of Avila inside the walled town. An ancient building with a very modern and tasteful interior. Rooms are small but bathrooms are big with the most fabulous shower. Their restaurant is a hidden gem. The food was simply superb. It has a cosy bar where you can also get a coffee or something stronger at most times of the day. All the staff were extremely pleasant and went out of their way to make your stay a memorable one. The owner and his daughter were so hospitable.
Avila is a wonderful town and we highly recommend a stop here. We were fortunate that the weekend we stayed there was a huge medieval festival on and we were right in the thick of it. Such a spectacle.
